Obviously the elected ones weren't even enough to stop stupid, self-righteous "leaders". if he had to sue to get the information he needed to do his job, and if he was powerless to stop the debacle that just happened, then obviously ICANN needs to be seriously revamped or taken away from its current runners in favor of someone else. This kind of bullshit is nothing if not detrimental to getting actual work done to improve things.
I'm not saying that's incorrect. I'm just saying that it's not exactly going to convert anybody to be able to run OSX with dubious results on a PC. Running a Darwin kernel is like running the HURD kernel. Either way it's going to be a pain in the ass. Sure, it may be decent and viable. But until it's working on more hardware (esp. AMD/VIA) then it's a really niche thing, and not something that can be done without great efforts to find the right hardware unless you're very lucky (think modems on Linux)
*cues up canned RMS speech*
The views expressed in said canned speech are not my views. More power to them. Now if only they'd port the whole OS for more hardware, Microsoft might start losing sleep...
it doesnt have to do with just the clothing. This is an article about the entire culture that they want to squash. If you had read the article, you would know that it's not just about visibility. The article talks about wanting to force more work out of fewer people. This is nothing new...businesses are always after more work at the expense of your sanity, ignoring any effect that will have on the quality of the work being done.
Crazy. That's gotta be some sort of locality thing. I live in Grayson county (texas, north of DFW near OK) and my phone bill was $22.15, and i have a pretty huge calling area (at least 20mi radius, not quite sure where it ends, but I think I get at least parts of the metroplex free. I know N Central dallas is free. I don't know if it crosses to OK, not that I know anyone there). Dallas County has huge taxes, in case you haven't noticed. Now what I find utterly ridiculous is that "touchtone dialing" is a $1.50 option rather than a given. How many people readily have a rotary phone on hand? (i have one, but it doesnt do a damn thing for my modem not to have touchtone dialling). Somebody's gotta do something about all this nickel-and-diming us to death bull. I've had a land line for all of 4 months now and i'm already sick of it...my cell may cost a little more, but at least it gives me distance for free and doesn't think twice about piling on the options for free.
I don't know what that attitude sounds more like; a slave or a dog.
Here, boy. Good boy. Sit. Stay still. ON YOUR VACATION. ANYWAY. Good dog.
Egad, man. Have you no self respect? Unless they're paying you to be on-call, work can stay at the office, thank you. Work is where you make your living, not where you live.
I don't see your point. That is freedom of the press. You claim that censorship is beneficial. I claim that any government that is "for the people by the people" should also leave all information open to the people. If they're doing things that they don't want public, then they're obviously not serving the people "by the people and for the people" in any way that i would consider to be first-amendment friendly.
you make a good point, but time is cheaper than it costing both time and money. And time spent trying new things is often time well spent, even if it only gives you a more educated reason not to like something. For example, I seem to recall Thomas Edison being asked if he felt like a failure when his 10,000th attempt at making a light bulb had failed, he merely responded, "not at all! I've merely discovered 10,000 ways that do not work."
This would be a cool way to get unrestricted high speed internet into homes...for example, if they were to say, "let us use your idle processes in return for free, unlimited, un-portblocked, static-IP internet that you can run a Domain off!" Sounds like a pretty decent trade to me.
I seem to recall not allowing patents that were "utilitarian in nature" listed somewhere in law...I don't remember exactly where though. Might not even have been US law, but if anyone knows where this was from, let me know...now I'm curious.
no. I don't see your point. There are laws which/may/ apply to the page (still waiting on court for that one). As far as search engine rankings, I know of no law which would require Google to 1) show impartiality in any matter on their own web page, or 2) list a site they chose not to in the first place if they so chose at all. Therefore, my logic is not flawed by the means you are stating...if you have a better reason then i'd certainly be open to hearing it though
yes...the Hole Hawg was indeed another good part. Hell, I loved the whole thing, to be honest...read it in one sitting, myself. couldn't put it down (who can say that about most history/computer books?)
Also, if you read nothing else of command line, you at least to fully understand the OS marketplace, must read the car dealer chapter. No other explanation has ever come closer to home than this to perfectly illustrating the operating system market and the relation of the respective systems.
But as you can see, this can be clearly done without DRM as well. Plus this doesn't benefit the (dare i say it) Cartels that force crappy overpriced music on dumb masses like DRM would...Idealism is nice, but it doesn't work if its easily exploited by those who are already in power.
In the Beginning was the Command Line by Neal Stephenson. If you haven't already read it, it's basicaly a history of operating systems and why they are how they are, intertwined with metaphors on how what parts work and a breakdown of OS/GUI variations and such. His stuff is way better than my explanation. It's free...so download it instead of listen to me ramble. If you hate it, the most you've lost is the time you took to DL and read what told you that. Also available in print.
Their actual case is absurdly weak, but it isn't nearly as crazy as some people are suggesting.
Justifiably, there is no case at all to be made. Regardless of Google's popularity, there is no way that Search King can even begin to claim that Google is even required to index their stuff. Dominant or not, Google is still technically a web page, and we all know that unless your server's TOS (i.e. Geocities or Tripod, if the latter still exists) requires banners or other such crap. So if Google runs their own site off their own servers, it's entirely their decision what goes on the site. Even if they're dominant, there are plenty of options out there. This suit is nothing but bullying.
There are a lot of layers of financial interests here, but they do all boil down to *controlling the distribution channels*, which in turn controls where the money flows. (Which I've been saying every time this topic rolls thru Slashdot. And now some news organ picks up the story? Obviously they've infringed my copyright!:)
So, to paraphrase the RIAA, in other words, if the artists don't bow to the RIAA and that "community", depending upon the RIAA to manufacture and distribute their CDs, then the workers are controlling the means of production, and therefore Communists for not bowing to the RIAA and their community...*gets dizzy from all the circles*
until there's a HUD that will actually work with my driving rather than distract me against it, then the only computer I'd want in my car would be playing my MP3s. But the HUD would be nice...not having to look down to see my (excessive) speed, for one
``Karl's a conundrum,'' ICANN Chairman Vint Cerf added.
Why should they care about what religion he is if he's capable of the job?

Even better: Use a minimal base install of linux with no X.

was a spot of something on my monitor...canada was 5th.
Canada ranked 15th, not 5th, according to the numbers on the map IIRC...

They don't care if you trust them...its an indication of how much They trust you.
Personally I'm satisfied with their quality Seattle grunge from the In Utero album...
