Give me a f*ing break, coward.

My AP is wide open for use with the Personal Telco Project. My point is that people who *want* to hack into people's WiFi networks will now be able to do so from a LONG distance, rather than needing to be within a few hundred yards.

Didja also note the WEP reference? If there was better encryption for wireless communication, there wouldn't be an issue.

Before we work on extending the range of 802.11b, why don't we see about making it more SECURE?!?

Next time, let's uncheck that nice little 'Post Anonymously' button, hmmm? Luser.

  11. Re:The Link in the article is Bullshit on HP Publishs First Linux TPC-C Benchmarks · · Score: 1

The point they're making isn't that Linux is BETTER than Windows, but rather that it can now COMPETE in the lower-end cluster market.

Dollar for dollar, the linux solution stands toe-to-toe with the windows solution on nearly the same hardware. So now, if you want a 32-processor cluster, you have a CHOICE. Linux (with no licensing fees and tons of tools) or Windows (with licensing fees and BSODs).

You have a choice. That's what they're saying.

  12. But memory isn't the bottleneck anymore, is it? on An Overview of Quad Band Memory · · Score: 1, Insightful

Nowadays, you see all of these benchmarks on chips/chipsets/memory, and unless you're talking inSANE resolutions and color depths, AMD/Intel vs nVidia/ATI really doesn't matter much. It's just personal preference.

Memory as well - how many of you TRULY saw a difference between PC100 and PC133 DRAM? Yeah, the benchmark numbers don't lie - but again, those are JUST benchmarks. Regardless, I don't think the system is being held back by memory.

It was my understanding that the major bottleneck of any system is the DISK. So no matter how fast your ram is, if you still have to swap to the slow-ass disk, your system will be slow.

However, I only have a 1Gig Duron w/512M PC133, so I don't exactly follow the bleeding edge. Your mileage, of course, may vary. :)
