Sure, there's a better interface and higher resolution.
Well there's 2 major reasons right there
But, game installation is generally a true pain - install the game, update the drivers, download the patches, fiddle with the game options, rinse, repeat
You have the benefit of downloading community mods and greater flexibilty in optimizing the game. Besides, I'd rather take an hour installing a game than suffer through the load time of a PS2 DVD.
Then there's the constant need to install new upgraded hardware (like a new $250 video card) to play tne next version of a game.
For most gamers upgrading is an enjoyable hobby (despite the occasional frustration). AFA consoles are concerned you can't get a good RTS, can't get a good FPS, can't get a good Flight Sim and can't use the console for anything else... it's basically a toy
True, this is the first Mac to be within an average joe's price range -- and the fact that it includes no keyboard, mouse, or monitor doesn't matter because it's aimed at potential switchers. Whip out the PC, slide in the Mac Mini.
I shelled out for the 1.42/80GB model with an additional 1GB from a 3rd party vendor. I can tell you the Mac Mini is not ready for prime time even with the 1GB upgrade. The thing is dog slow and looks like crap if you use it with an analog monitor. Even browsing the web is frustrating, flash animations occassional stutter (ex homestarrunner) and picture heavy pages like eBay gallery can take 15 seconds. I use it as an email and MP3 station... that's about it.
BTW avoid buying directly from Apple since they tack on a state sales tax. I saved $40 by ordering from MacMall.
Say what you will about GW Bush; the man is not an intellectual, but is an ivy league grad.
Oh please "are destroying", like GWB was the first blue blood to cull favor into getting admission. Hasn't the Ivy League always worked this way?? It's only let non-WASPs in since the late 60s.
From another article it said the R&D teams at Peoplesoft were going to remain intact while the HR, sales, administrative and markiting teams were going to be hit the hardest. Can't really shed a tear for those people, especially since I despise Peoplesoft apps.
I can state, for a fact, that Bush is spending money we do not have and digging a deficit hole so deep that we will spend many, many, years recovering from.
Hours after that, my "impulsiveness" subsided and I have re-thought if I really want to spend that money.
I had the same reaction yesterday. I figured what the heck for 500 bux I can join the Apple experience, but after pricing it with a decent configuration it suddenly lost it's appeal. Plus the fact that I'd still be pining for a G5.
1. Outsource IT department to India. 2. Department computers siezed by Indian government containing US customer info. 3. Indian government now has full access to the detailed financial, demographic and medical information of US citizens.
Even when you win a decision, you still lose because you have to pay thousands to a lawyer for defense. Is it possible for HardOCP to countersue to recoup those fees?
Wonder who they'll use for such sensitive equipment now that Big Blue has jumped in bed with Big Red?
You raise a good point there. I know sales of corporations have been blocked before by the US government due to security and sensitive infrastructure issues. Anybody out there know if NASA still relies on IBM?
My company recommending remote emp switch to VoIP

VoIP Predictions for 2005

· Score: 2, Informative
My consulting group works out of our home offices and we have our broadband/business line paid for by corp. Previously for long distance we were issued MCI phone cards which added up to quite a bill since most of our clients are all over North America. I was the first in the group to switch to Vonage and after seeing the potential savings VoIP has become standard practice in our group.
There have been some embarrassing moments with dropped calls in the middle of a conference call, but they have been few and far between. My only gripe with Vonage is the lousy router I was issued (Motorola VT1005V) which can crash if it is connected to a hub/switch with too many connections. Solved the problem by getting a good main router (Netopia R9100) and putting the Vonage router behind that with port forwarding.
No, what does it matter how much freedom you have?... The trick in a good game design is not to maximize freedom, but to set clear and intuitive boundaries such that the player will never even be tempted to violate the rules of the game.
Ugh... a console fanboy rears his ugly head.
What's great about wide open maps and "freedom" is that it allows you attack a problem several different ways rather than have the game mimic a linear amusement ride. In Far Cry, the maps are so wide and the AI so good that I can plan an attack a half dozen ways. Infact I enjoyed reading how others tackled a tough level on the related forums since their solutions often varyied, a refreshing change from the standard walkthrough.
Too many American developers waste their time making "realistic" games that provide "freedom" and yet are boring and unpolished because the developers couldn't cope with the resulting combinatorial explosion.
Yawn... here comes the standard Japanese are better at games/animation/whatever than American and European creators.
Yeah, I always enjoy eating out a Cookie Puss

My analog pirate box still works great on the few remaining premium channels.
Cant go to sleep before 1AM most nights, my old ladie is asleep by 11am so it makes sex impossible
Same thing happens to my right hand after playing a good FPS.
to all three fans.
SASSY!

Congress controls the purse strings.
Great - the UK might be a nice place to live by then!
... but what will happen to the indigenous people of the British Isles? I heard they combust if exposed to sunlight for more than 4 hours.
Damn that brings back memories. Didn't they wind up finding him on Iscandar? or am I thinking of Mark Venture... Kudos for that trip down memory lane
Seriously, did he EVER get laid in those 7 years?
Now that you mention it, no. And I don't remember him getting any on Reading Rainbow either.

One of the companies, Global Net Ventures, is based in the UK. How is the US FTC going to charge them?
Little things like borders have never stopped US authorities before
I agree! Plus the congealed sludge in that handy grease catcher makes for a good dip.
A bill to regulate the transmission of personally identifiable information to foreign affiliates and subcontractors.

Doom 3 should be the #1 gaming low of the year. What a disappointment.

Slashdot Channel anyone?
I'm still waiting for the next episode of "Geeks in Space"
