Mechanical, electrical and chemical engineers were decimated in the late 70s/early 80s as manufacturers packed up and went overseas. There was an engineering glut due to Eisenhower and Kennedy's "beat the reds" era programs which churned out armies of engineers. Several of my father's friends were caught up in those lay offs and had take up menial labor jobs to keep food on the table.
Most hospitals and health care systems have electronic medical records.
"Only about 8% of the nation's 5,000 hospitals and 17% of its 800,000 physicians currently use the kind of common computerized record-keeping systems that Obama envisions for the whole nation."
This is the key. Most health information systems are not linked to any kind of national network. So for example, your hometown hospital has a detailed electronic medical record created on you from the last time you visited the ER with a bad case of the flu (ie your allergies, your RX history...). Then you go on vacation in Alabama and get into a bungee jumping accident which leaves you unconscious. The ER doesn't have quick access to your local hospital's electronic medical record so they either have to have the info faxed (if they can even determine who your primary care provider is) or redo all those tests for things like allergies and medications.
Getting all the big players in health information systems to play nice and share their patient data repositories is going to be interesting.
When I was a lad in Catholic school the nuns would cut out all the "racey" pics from the art books and National Geographics. The SI Swimsuit edition was always a particular let down:-(... but to answer your question, they won't even care since most probably have their own unfiltered systems at home.
Every time a celebrity lands themselves in an ER (especially hospitals not accustomed VIPs) then we can expect several violations of HIPAA by unauthorized hospital staff.
They just cannot resist no matter how many times they are warned about activity being logged and threats of dismissal upon violation.
The teaching of creationism is the least of America's education issues. We have a significant portion of high school graduates who are well behind their foreign counterparts in literacy and mathematics. The problem is so widespread that many universities have remedial courses to prep students for basic foundation classes in English and algebra.
Unfortunately, in many districts the parents are more interested in spending funding on new athletic facilities then on education.
McCain would like to open up a third front in Iran or Syria, and Obama is going full steam ahead with social spending even though we're technically insolvent.
Just a matter of time before the rest of the world depegs from the dollar cutting off America's credit line in the process. That's when the fun begins.

"Firefighters found more than 1,500 vials, jars, cans, bottles and boxes in the basement Tuesday afternoon, after they responded to an unrelated fire in an air conditioner on the second floor of the home.
Vessels of chemicals were all over the furniture and the floor, authorities said. The ensuing investigation involved a state hazardous materials team, fire and police officials, health officials, environmental officials and code enforcement officials. The Deebs were told to stay in a hotel while the slew of officials investigated and emptied the basement. "
It is definitely harder to keep the pounds off in my graying years. Depression has led to alcohol and more pounds.
Not sure what to do at this point...

"How much for a drink?"
The bartender replied, "For you, no charge."
Man I wasted a lot of money on that mag back in the day. I still have EGM's 1990 Video Game Buyer's Guide that I bought from Electronic Boutique.
What if Steve shows up as a woman at Macworld?

Logistically impossible to use as a mass transportation fuel since it requires distribution by pipeline if you want it to remain cheap.
Will it reduce foreign dependency as well? Let's hope so.
No, because our main issue is with transportation fuels of which there is no substitute for the lighter grades of crude oil.
we are flat broke. Kill the shuttle already.
