My grandmother is about 80 years old and from rural Oklahoma. She refers to that part of a car as a "turtle hull". Apparently a common expression among country people.
Apparantly, Homer objects to the fancy terms used, including the term "garage"
Apparently you are wrong. (We forgive you - in fact we pity you for not having seen the episode.) Home uses the term "Garage" and Moe objects to his "fancy use of language" (as do Lenny and Carl). Homer asks "So what do you call it?"
"We are exploring ways to add value to Windows XP."
To me, that sounds like newspeak for "We are exploring ways to get existing XP users to pony up extra cash."
I have to disagree with you here. Have you ever met a Windows user who has gone to the store and purchased an update to Windows? I haven't (since Win 95). I think the vast majority of windows users just run the OS their computer shipped with and that's it.
That said, if they are trying to add features to WinXP, that's mostly going to be on new machines, not sold to people doing OS upgrades.
I think the actual reason is so they can have justify not giving a price break to OEMs. By this I mean, Dell saying "Hey Longhorn is late - cut the price on XP." and Microsoft's answer is "XP Reloaded".
I totally agree. If that's his idea of "growing as a mainstream media", then I'd be more than happy to let the internet languish and stagnate as an alternative media.
I'm not really sure what point you are trying to make. Lots of things are illegal that shouldn't be illegal. Mainly because goddamned Christians want it that way. (Usually as a cover so they can make money.)
For example, marijuana, prostitution, gambling (some places), nudity, etc. When they can't get their views enacted by law, Christians use threats bringing us systems like our current movie, video game, TV rating systems. The fact is that the constitution doesn't give the government the right to regulate our private behavior.
You can bad mouth Soviet Russia all you want, but at least they had the good sense to outlaw Christianity which is a cancer on society.
In France, they have a system that is closer to majority rule. That's why Nazism is outlawed in France, but not in the US. You want a system like that? Move to France.
I just wish people would get off this "child porn" thing. "We made it illegal, therefore we should eliminate all free speech rights".
I'm tired of this argument. I know people (idiots) who think that all porn is child porn. Let's get this straight: dressing up a 35 year old woman in a school uniform and giving her a giant lollipop doesn't make it child porn!
Second of all, I think that our free speech rights are (or should be) absolute. You should be able to say anything you want including child porn, fire in a crowded theater, slander, whatever. The Constitution doesn't place restrictions on free speech and a fair judiciary would overturn these so called "exceptions".
As far as "social isolation" goes, the iPod is not really any different than any other personal stereo device made in the past 20 years. Long before I had an iPod, I had a personal cassette player, a personal radio, a personal CD player, and yes, even a Rio 500. The iPod is better in the sense that it stores my entire CD collection. That fact sells iPods, but doesn't change the social relationship of the device.
I guess you must have been hiding out with Saddam Hussein since you missed the big flap over the iPod batteries.
Basically it boils down to this: the iPod has a rechargable battery that lasts about a year. For some people, it lasts less, for others it lasts more. You can buy a replacement battery for between 50 and 100 dollars and either replace it yourself or have Apple do it for you.
Some people (generally these are the usual Apple bashing crowd) are crying fowl. "How can the evil Apple empire get away with abusing its foolish customers!", they say. "Everyone should buy a Dell now!"
Apple engineered the iPod this way to get the size down. Get over it.
Sure, there are fast Windows PCs out there, but what's the point in going fast when you're going in the wrong direction?

I'd have to agree. Purify and Pure Coverage are both really great tools. I highly recommend them.

In some cases where printf isn't possible, for example code that is very time dependent, event handling code, code that is triggered when something on the screen changes, etc. I have found that using brief sounds can help me to understand what is going on. You can use different pitches to mean different things. This is obviously a case where you want to rip out the debug code when you are done, but sure helps you in cases where printf can't.
I found a job once off of usenet around 1996. Since then I have used Monster and Hotjobs. The last three jobs I've had have been off of these boards. All four jobs were as a software developer.
You ran into one of our lovely, SCUMBAG cops that we have here in Washington state. I celebrate ever time I hear about one of those goddamned murders getting it in the chin. You should file a complaint with internal affairs for harassment.
Not being an expert on legal matters, I can't really say anything from a rights standpoint, but I do feel obliged to point out that from a pragmatic standpoint a little bit of calm and courtesy probably would have prevented things from escalating the way they did. On the video it looks like the man started getting visibly agitated and shouting pretty easily, when he could have just calmly stated his case. Unfortunately when you get right down to things, if you start by being hostile and loud it usually doesn't help things. This is true regardless of whether you're talking to a cop, a secretary, airport security, or whatever.
You don't understand the psychology of the police. To them, there are two kinds of people in the world - those they can push around and those they can't. The quicker you can convince them you are in the first category the better it will go for you. If they decide to, they can just kill you on the spot and easily get away with it.
All cops are basically murderers. The ones here in Seattle kill people all the time and get away with it.

Moe: A car hole!
Zork III had an earthquake.
Yeah, its not exactly what you mean by "GTA style", but I still love it.
How do you get high enough to skydive without fuel?

You sound like an idiot.
I had a Rio 500 and it sucked. On the other hand, I've never bought a bad product from Apple. My iPod is great.
I totally agree. If that's his idea of "growing as a mainstream media", then I'd be more than happy to let the internet languish and stagnate as an alternative media.
Everday I hate cops more.
Line up all the "Christians" against the wall and shoot them.

Exactly the line of thinking that brought us prohibition.

He didn't say anything about illegal drugs. All he was arrested for was being a passenger in a car.

No cop deserves the slightest respect at all. Fuck them. The only good policeman is a dead one.
