Seriously, sounds like a place I use to work for. Underpaid and overworked. Management didn't want to spend more money or hire more people. I didn't have a vacation in three years, working at times 10 hours a day and some weekends to boot. I went on a two week vacation. Came back, they sat me in and gave me a $25K raise right there. Then they asked what we needed. Some of the items were actually done, like hiring teams of people to do the work that a few were doing.
Nothing like going away for a bit, and being unreachable to make people appreciate you more.
They actually might be there tonight on IRC. Here is an excerpt from the site:
Starting at 6:00PM we'll fire up our live webcam of the festivities along with an IRC chat room. Chat with Kevin, Dan, Keith and Ron (systm crew) along with other TechTV staffers (Leo, Pat, Yoshi, Alex, and others have all been invited).
The article did mention that the size would be comparable to a Milano cookie.
Supporting Delphi programs are expensive

Delphi Renaissance
·
· Score: 1
The problem I face is that there is not enough good delphi developers out there for a fair market price. We have a consultant that built a program completely in Delphi. Unfortunantely, he wants $200/HR to do anything. Finding someone else is difficult and training internal staff is impossible. I can't find a decent delphi class to speak of.
I'm not a huge microsoft development fan, but there are more people who know how to use it and I can get my money's worth.
The kicker is that our auditors want us to get rid of Delphi because of the difficulty it is to find good people for support.
I looked online and I can see that there are many benefits that Delphi has over VB.NET, C#, etc. But for me those benefits don't outweigh the fact that if I cannot support it then it's a liability.
Just my two cents from experience
Given that this gives people in the world a better option than drinking the contaminated water they have, I'm all for it and would drink it. This will help in so many areas:
1. Clean water for drinking and cooking.
2. Less diseases spread.
3. Possibly less conflict over water rights in certain areas.
Just my two cents...
Ok, I'm a registered independent voter, because I like to think for myself. I'm conversative on some issues and liberal on others. And I have my own opinion that don't follow any party lines. So what color brain do I have?
Several analysts commented that the IPO price should have been set around $50 instead of $85. This was to help drive the price up to a stable price instead of deflating after the second day of trading.
Why not get digital voice recorder or a MP3 Player that can record voice memos? Then transfer the recordings using dragon natural speak to convert it to a word document? If you already have an MP3 player see if it will allow you to record voice memos. Sounds easy to me and keeps your hands free during your trips.
Seriously, if that's what micro$oft is recommending for hardware for their OS what in the world will it need to run SQL, exchange and their other must have servers.
I've done business with AOL for the past few years. Everytime I visit the AOL campus there is always talks of micro$oft buying them out. There were even talking about it when they merged with Time Warner. Stating that TW would spin off AOL for auction. Nothing really has changed much over the past few months to really push this deal through anytime soon.
Are we getting a little bit ahead of ourselves here. Not everyone in the world has access to the internet let alone tv. For most radio is the only access they have to news, music, etc. besides of course word of mouth and newspaper.
I manage a small IT staff with limited resources and keeping up to date with all of these security fixes is getting costly. Instead of working on projects to improve my systems.
I really have to switch over to linux.
I know that if you have Oracle in your environment, Red Hat is going to push you to use Advance Server 2.1. Too be honest there is not really that much difference between the two except how they configured the kernel and advance server is specialized for clustering. Which you can do on your own. But if you are looking for support for products like Oracle or any other corporate solutions go with advance server. If you are just using it for email, web server, file server, etc (isn't linux wonderful) then stick with the "consumer version". It's cheaper.

Sun trying to build a new desktop platform is like hammering the last nail in the coffin. Why don't they try working with Apple to build out the Apple OS on the workstations and use Sun on the servers. It seems Sun is just wasting time and money on reinventing the wheel when supporting Apple would give them a boost.
Now I know wher all the money I spent on HP servers that I bought went to. At least I know that it is being put to good use.

What is up with the media and their stupid questions? I understand the need for getting the story but asking how the troops are going to handle the stress and what they plan to do is ridiculous. The military is more concerned about how the dust is going to affect night visiblity.

Kind of interesting to here about this when I heard on the Screen Savers that eBay is more than willing to hand over any user's information to the goverment without a supeona or court order. Here is a link to the original artical where the senior council for eBay had a close door meeting with cyber crimes divisions of goverment agencies.
Did everyone forget that the terrorist paid everything with cash when attacked on 9/11? What good would have credit card information have done? They paid cash for flying school, cash for tickets, travel and accomendations. I would be more interest in flagging people who paid in cash.
The whole point of the conference is to learn more about open source and how it is different from M$ shared source. If the accused doesn't have the right to speak on behalf of themselves all we are doing is making open source look like a bunch of bullies with no sense of how to work in the real world. For years the open source community has tried to get to the point where knowledge is shared and companies are not afraid to use it. How are companies, the government, etc. going to feel comfortable about using it if they can't compare it with what's out there already. It's time to put the ranting aside and show everyone that open source is awesome and is here to stay. Or if we continue like this then I agree with the article when it says:
"This fear and intolerance of opposing viewpoints is an anathema to reasonable people and hurts Open Source more than anything anyone can possible say against it.

who actully talked about home sourcing by Jet Blue. About how instead of sourcing their customer support overseas they work with mothers who want to work and need to stay at home to take care of their kids. This just reminded me of that.
