I was in your shoes when I was using UltraEdit and the free.NET SDK for development. I had all kinds of macros set up to autogenerate a separate xml file where my comments would be extracted from the code and placed into, while placing the rest of the 40 or so cs files into a dll and running it, etc. I thought that the color coding was help enough with programming. I'd just assumed that VS.Net was just bloat-ware like every other MS dev. env. that I've used in the past.
However, unless you have the entire.Net built-in class libraries in your brain and can compile code with warnings in your head on the fly, VS.Net will greatly speed up the development process. (It's much easier to hit ".", "(", or CTRL+SPACE, than to google MSDN for what I'm looking for.) Aside from all the other features already listed, its integration with VSS is pretty seamless.
You really have to use it for a day to realize it's potential. All the MS marketing fluff sites don't do it any justice. Ours at work was included with individual MSDN Universal subscriptions for all of our developers. We all got to upgrade from NT and whatever development tools we were using before (VS6.0, HomeSite, UltraEdit, notepad, vim).
Learn to use Visual Studio.NET. It will do everything you want it to. Don't worry about tabstops, etc. because it does stuff like that for you. Some helpful shortcuts:
CTRL+[SPACE] = Type ahead /// = When used a line above functions, events, etc. it will autogenerate the XML based comments
I used to program C# with UltraEdit before my company could afford VS.NET. VS.NET paid for itself the first day that I used it because it saved me so much time.
I remember watching Sightings years ago where this older couple was experimenting with taking a video of a video. Basically the camera would record an infinity of audio and video. They played it back and could see images of a young girl who had passed away and some guy who appeared to be saying "I've come up with Betty". They must've played the "I've come up with Betty" clip a thousand times and now it's forever drilled into my head.
I think of it often in my daydreams at random times when it doesn't have to do with anything.
no flat screens here. and no it isn't NOTHING. it is a little hole that we have to stick a paper clip in when it freezes. not every time it freezes though, sometimes the normal ctrl-apple-esc(something like that) works well enough. you could point and laugh and say "you cheapskates should just upgrade," and then i'd say "my NT box doesn't need a paperclip, or even a reset button, and i can't even remember the last time that i've used ctrl-alt-delete."
And it's precisely those obstacles, such as proprietary file formats, that have kept Windows the default operating system in the U.S. I don't blame Microsoft for protecting its markets. But you gotta love Apple for breaking this thing open and showing consumers and businesses how much they can save when things that are normally painful all of a sudden just work.
those proprietary formats that can be edited by all kinds of software?
i think the fact that you'll pay about twice as much for a mac as for a comparable pc offsets the the fact that you have to spend an extra minute setting the PC up (assuming that the Mac doesn't crash and you need to find a paperclip somewhere to reset it).
Now let's spend the $22K difference to make it even...
Well for <$5K we could take it up to 368HP with this stage 4 kit. Lets say it takes 15 hours for a professional installation at $100/hour then that takes us up another $1500 bringing us to a total of $29500.
Now let's smack on a Stage 3 short block for more reliability. That's another $6700 including labor. That takes us up to $36200.
Even though the AWD will easily make up the difference of HP vs. RWD (unless we're driving on a nice hot track) lets spend $2k more on a nitrous kit just to make sure we can embarass the Z06. That only takes us up to $38200.
That will take us up to ~$45000. For a machine that will embarass pretty much anything else in that price range. You could argue the reliability of the WRX, but when you're comparing it with an American car is that really relevant?
Personally I'd rather just spend $12K on a Hayabusa (yes it is a motorcycle, yes it ONLY has a 4cyl engine) and embarass them both.
I agree that you wouldn't want an 1100hp 4cyl car as a reliable daily driver.
The Elise is $35k. Have you ever seen Elise's (or Miata's, or S2000's) at SCCA events? They clean house.
I can't argue price/performance, but its your definition of performance that I disagree with. You say performance is displacement, I say performance is power-to-weight and handling.
The original argument that I tried to make, and failed miserably (no I wasn't on the debate team), was that there are many factors that can make for a fast vehicle, and the number of cylinders (8 vs. 6 vs. 4 vs. etc...) doesn't always have a direct relationship with "performance".
And how much do you drive your car on "loose gravel" anyways? well i've been driving through inches of snow and ice for the past few weeks. i only drive on "loose gravel" about once a month.
The Sub produces pretty good HP, but at what RPM? Lets not even start talking about torque no really, lets talk about it... Power 223.7 kw / 300.0 bhp @ 5500 rpm Torque 490 nm / 361.4 ft lbs
You're not going to see any Cobras or Z06's passing this one any time soon.

I missed the part where you told me about the WRX, why'd you completely ignore it?
A stock elise goes 0-60 in 5.7, but any Elise can outhandle just about any car on the road. It only weighs 1600# because it has a 4cyl engine, not a big bulky 8cyl.
My point is that power-to-weight and handling are everything. Displacement has nothing to do with it.
His numbered points make sense, but the rest is BS.
Case in point, if a 4 cylinder turbo is so much better than a V6, V8, V10, etc, then why don't you see Indy cars, Top Fuel dragsters, or exotic super cars running them?
hmm, someone has never seen the WRC. The WRC spec Subaru WRX has a 2.0L 4 cylinder engine. It has been tested to go 0-60 in 4.3 seconds... on loose gravel!
I guess Lotus isn't an exotic supercar manufacturer any more;-) There are very few cars that can outperform a Lotus Elise.
How about a Hayabusa? Its nice little naturally aspirated four takes it to 200mph very easily, once you replace the factory chip.
There is no substitute for displacement. Keep telling yourself that every time you fill up your tank.
I'll stick to my factory-tuned H4 thank you very much.
I'm on my third car, never had more than 4 cylinders. I've had an I4, V4, and H4. The I4 is the easiest to work on, but the H4 is a much sweeter engine. I also have a motorcycle with an I4. I think 4 is the magic number when it comes to non-rotary engines.
Last night we had a 78+minute game of Quake 3 Arena after work. The best part was that the score limit was 10. It was 2 on 2 with no bots, ctf4, and the excessive server mod. I thought it was pretty good for amateurs like us.
I think our slowest computer is a PIII-600, I used to be the slowest with a PII-400, but then I got a second processor. I run NT4.0, but we've installed Q3 on linux and a mac once here and played fine across network games. I also used to play with an Evans & Sutherland 15mb(no, not 16) AGP video card (rocks for all openGL except games), but I have been recently upgraded to a Voodoo3 16mb AGP(sux for all openGL except for games), also my ram has been upgraded from 128mb to 256mb. The most helpful upgrade was my $8(after rebate at bestbuy) IBM optical mouse which I bought myself. Q3 played fine before all my upgrades so you guys should be fine running it.
The downside is that its like $30(totally worth it) and requires about 500mb on your hard drive. If you can't spring the dough or spare the space, then Quake 2 or even the original Quake, are decently addicting enough to keep you occupied.
I think that racist bastards like yourself should stop looking at how people diverse racial backgrounds are different. I can see doing studies on different income levels, but different races? Come on! The civil war is over. Its probably people like you who keep people like Strom Thurmon in office. If you are sincerely ignorant, then I apologize for insulting, but you really need to open your mind.
Oh and BTW, there are more races than "black" and "white".
I've googled them before, but I can't find their catalogs anywhere online, I'm starting to wonder if they've gone out of business. Kinda sad. I miss going through their xmas catalogs and circling all the toys that I want to get.
Oh come on, you know you'd do it too--if you could only reach.
My friend's dad (or my dad's friend depending on how you want to look at it) used to always ask us the rhetorical question: "Do you know why a dog licks his balls?" "No Fritz, why is that?" we'd say. "Because he can," he would reply. I think he's right too.

If you have the time, I'd highly recommend reading the C# language specification.

PC LOAD LETTER?!?!!? What the fuck does that mean?!?!?
Are you still not dead?
You can get them at sporting good's stores for less than $8. They are surprisingly bright, and amazingly useful. I've got a red one and a blue one.

yeah, because the Z06 handles great in the 12"+ of snow we have.
Ok, if you're going to get technical...
Z06 = ~$45000 USD
WRX = ~$23000 USD

$4000 for a stage 3 suspension kit. Taking us to $42000.
Wheels: 4 17x7.5 Prodrive GC-06D $1,900
Tires: 4 225/45YR17 BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KD $780
