I can sort of kinda understand garcia's first post being +5. But why is this one? Isn't +5 supposed to be reserved for the very best comments. The REALLY informative. The REALLY insightful. The ones that make you fall out of your chair and laugh until your roomates start looking at the For Rent section of the classifieds. Before you rate a comment, think, "Ok, this is a good comment. But is it really +5 good, or just merely +3 good?" For example, this comment (mine, not garcia's) really has no reason being anything above +3, if that. It may be a bit interesting or insightful, but its also pretty off topic, and by no means exceptional. So in short, just because its good, doesn't mean it should be modded up furthur.
Microsoft doesn't even have to raise prices afterwards. They can continue to sell an individual product at a loss for the life of that product. The advantage to them is control of the market. Why won't most desktop users ever switch to linux? Its not because it won't run Photoshop. Its because it is a royal pain to open the files that everyone else uses, files that can be opened with the programs that MS gives you, or sells you cheap.
Additionally, if your competitors can't get in, they won't have time to come up with products that compete with your cash cows: Windows and Office.
And the Harley riders will never understand the appeal of guys using their eyes to strain to read tiny pixels and fingers to type on awkward keyboards right about the time that should be OUT HAVING FUN.
Oh, i get it. So its supposed to be first come first serve when the little guy is first, but if the Evil Corporation is first, then it should go to the "rightful owner"? Make up your mind/.
Metallica actually does allow taping and trading of those tapes. You need to get a special ticket, set up i a special section, and they generally don't allow stands though.
I'm asking a question here, not trying to say anything.
Why should you get your name back? You didn't reregister it when it expired. Someone else did. Isn't domain name allocation supposed to be first come first serve?
Are you talking about CCLI (Christian Copyright Liscensing International) ? Are they really part of the RIAA? I've dealt with them before and have heard nothing about it, but i probably wouldn't.
The problem isn't that someone on top things the CEO is worth X amount of dollars. Its that the CEOs and the board members were all in the same frats in college, hang out at the same exclusive clubs, and have an unspoken agreement to keep each other at the top by standing on the people who do the real work.
when I get equal compensation for equal amounts of work and experience.
You are compensates exactly what you are worth. If you disagree, then find someone else who agrees with your self assessment.
I think the point is not that he is not compensated for his work and experience, but that he is not compensated on the same scale as his boss, who is waaaaaay overpaid at the expense of the company and its workers.
I kinda feel bad about starting the stupidest thread i've ever read. ..but this one is a gem. Thats got to go on my aim profile. (: kudos to duck_prime
I use Mark Kyne's "Personal Weblog" for a small site that allows anyone to read anything, and those who have the password to post and edit posts. Ultra simple. I think it works just fine for announcements and stuff. Its php and mysql. Mine really isn't used much at all, but it works fine. Get it at http://www.kyne.com.au/~mark/software/weblog.php .
I loved the Gateway? commercial, advertising a computer with the latest and greatest processor, ram, video card, and 56K MODEM, "so you can surf the web faster"! The target audience saw nothing wrong with this.
Its been nearly one hundred years since the automobile hit the mainstream in the United States, and more than fifty years since it was just assumed that you had access to one. A majority of people still haven't bothered to learn how to change their oil, replace basic parts (brake pads, headlights, spark plugs), or even use the turn signals. New Jersey doesn't even know how to pump gas. People don't spend the time learning all about their products. They never will. Dumb will always be the aim of the major commercial players.
I think they did a really good job with the car. When it was on the ground. When in the air, inertia seems not to apply. It should look more like it is driving on an (invisible) icy road in the sky.
So if the admin puts something on the front page of the company's web site that the execs didn't want there, and I access it, I'm a cracker? Or more realisticaly, if I hit http://somecomputerat.somecompany.com:75248/ladeda/546415467534567/54556454.html wich has something the execs didn't want out, am I a cracker?

When your government says (and enforces that) there is no such thing as the thing that is the most obvoius, and most likely correct, answer (God), you have to resort to aliens or something equally as unlikely.

Hey. I read an article by that title about this when I was in high school. That was at least 4 years ago. Thats old news, even by /. standards.

it wouldn't be too hard to dump a very large truckload of dead-tree pulp and ink on the doorstep of Congress.
That's the way democracy works isn't it?
Only if the dead tree pulp and ink is money.
What law makes it illegal to ignore the robots.txt? I've never heard of any.
What does the ability to pay 65M have to do with it?
the Swiss are good folks but political correctness isn't always high on their list
are good folks == political correctness isn't always high on their list.
The "but" shouldn't be there.

Surely you're not trying to say that there is only one asshole in every 7 people.
But remember, the government is master of sweeping things under the carpet and making things go away.
I read an article about this yesterday, and was sure it was satire. A joke. Please tell me this was a joke. Please.

Read the article before you post. Its a Russian publication.
but there was no breach. just a bad decision on the part of the admin.
