Actually, this was explained in one of the Star Wars books (the second Young Han Solo trilogy). The Kessel Run through an area of space that has a huge amount of black holes. Basically, what the pilots would do was they'd see how close to the black holes they could get and, by doing so, they would cut more and more distance from their trip. I don't know if that's actually doable by physics, but I just know that's how the book explained it. Really good book, too.
I think that it was the Open Systems Foundation, lead by DEC and a few other companies. They thought that AT&T and Sun were trying to unfairly make some UNIX standards.
Well, that's assuming that my memory serves me correctly...I haven't researched this for a while...the reason, that is, I know that DEC was involved (hence why Tru64 UNIX is sometimes refered to as OSF/1).
Carmack released the source for Doom and Quake (and Quake II) after they'd finish their run, yes, but long, long before that there had been Linux versions of Doom, Doom II, Quake, Quake II, AND Quake III for a long, long time. Remember, Quake III had a linux port that shipped the same time as the Windows and Mac ports, and they're planning a Linux port for Doom III as well.
Please get your facts straight before making comments like that...I mean, a quick google would have told you about the Linux ports of those games.
Carmack releasing the source to the Dooms and the Quakes is just his way of giving back to the community that buys the games, makes the mods, and keeps playing. And its a nice way for the mod makers to create even better mods (since they have access to the engine code, and can extend it however they want).
Since the news of this discovery, it has come to the attention of this reporter that the $$60,000,000,000 Man, Vash the Stampede, has been seen trying to hijack space ships. More on this story as it develops.
(For those who don't know, Vash the Stampede really likes Doughnuts)
From what I've read and heard, the Dragon Quest games (well, DQ7, at least) were better sellers then the Final Fantasy games. Most of the FF games just got more hype in the US (...Final Fantasy VII, anyone? I'm sure we all remember the commercials).
Of course, that's not to say that both houses aren't good in their own separate ways. Square is, undeniably, the king of FMV goodness (even if they did overdo it a little in recent games), and Enix is just a danged good RPG maker...and besides, remember the last Square/Enix joint venture? Chrono Trigger? That's been touted as one of the BEST RPGs for the Super Nintendo, and many say that it's one of the best ever.
Of course, I personally prefer FF6, but that's just me.

Mr. Wall,
I know that you are an amateur linguist, since you originally wanted to be a missionary, and I was just wondering what other languages that you know and how they influenced your design of perl. I believe that you mentioned in the Camel that Greek was one of the languages that you drew from, and I was just wondering about the others you used, and why you chose them.
Step #1: Rent a movie on DVD Step #2: Place DVD in DVD-Rom drive Step #3: Rip the DVD to your hard drive Step #4: DivX! Step #5: Watch it to your heart's content.
Thanks for your time.

And I quote: "Like the story of Jesus Christ chasing the moneylenders out of the temple. I know this is kinda hard for contemporary people to get their heads around, but Jesus Christ used to beat people up with a whip for being capitalists." Honestly...Christ wasn't angry at the people because they were Capitalists, he was angry at them for a couple of reasons, one of which being that they were defiling the sacred nature of the Temple. The area that had been turned into a den of merchants was the only area of the temple where the Gentiles (Non Jews, for those who don't know) could worship. By having all those people shouting and hawking their wears, it would be nearly impossible for someone to focus on worship! It also should be noted that those people shouldn't even have been in there in the first place! They were supposed to be setting up shop outside the temple (had they been following the rules, Christ wouldn't have had a problem with them, since they did provide a service: They were able to provide sacrificial animals to people who were from out of the country, and unable to bring their own sacrifices along with them), but the priests, in their infinite wisdom, decided 'Hey! We can get a lot of money from these folks, by charging them money to set up shop in the temple walls! Who cares if we're blaspheming the temple with this, we can get rich!' So, basically Christ was removing the corruption from the temple, or at least some of it. I could probably go on for a while longer on this topic, but it would, more then likely, become increasingly offtopic and start to become extremely boring for a lot of people, so I figure I'll just end it here. This post is not intended to be offtopic, trolling, or flamebait, if it is construed in that manner, then I apologize.
Applaud ISO if they're prepared to take this kind of step. It shows that they're willing to say 'ok, stop' if people are going to abuse their patents on standardized things...though, to tell you the truth, I personally prefer PNG....Just wish that something like this had been done with GIF...
Of course you will find the latest & greatest versions of the main packages, including:

It actually did become Open Source. They released the Wasabi kit and the Wasabi.player part of it is Winamp Three. It's all right here.
Yes, and now, Dr. Forrester can use the Viruses to make all the computers in the world play horrible movies, so that he can take over the world!
Push the button, Frank! We've finally won!
Its Strattera. I know because my doctor just put me on it. Its supposed to be pretty good.

Here's a way to get the same effect with movies!
Step #1: Rent a movie on DVD
Step #2: Place DVD in DVD-Rom drive
Step #3: Rip the DVD to your hard drive
Step #4: DivX!
Step #5: Watch it to your heart's content.
