and continue to use Netflix and Amazon, and if I feel like it step up to using Hulu Plus. All three are still cheaper each month (or year) than cable. If I decide to subscribe to a single web channel, and I have one, it's going to take a lot of channels, plus Netflix, Hulu Plus and Amazon Prime together to catch up to the cost of cable. Honestly I don't care about most of the channels cable has.
If I order a CD off of Amazon a lot of the times it's CHEAPER than buying the MP3 album - and it comes with the MP3 album already ripped as a bonus. If it weren't for the fact I like to rip my disk to ogg I could put the CD in the box unopened and it would be cheaper than buying the digital album. Yes I realize I could convert the MP3s to ogg, don't lose site of what I'm doing here.
I buy my movies mostly on BluRay, when I buy a DVD I usually buy them from a super cheap bargain bin for $3 each. I rip them and put them on my media server. I don't have to worry about bandwidth caps or my unreliable cable connection to watch movies I bought that way. I have a toddler, on weekdays my TV pretty much plays Looney Tunes, Tom & Jerry, and Popeye non-stop. I would rather play it all off of that hard drive that I filled up off of my legally purchased DVD's than have the bad karma or pirating. (even though half or more of that is in the public domain - the restored versions are worth a few bucks)

Putting all my movies, music, and photos on KODI has a high WAF, however having to go to the Wii or use a clunky touchpad for Netflix is very low on her tolerance list. She will generally switch to the Wii so she doesn't have to deal with the stupid browser launcher and touchpad.

The fact I can't navigate Netflix with a keyboard. Sure there's some rough scrolling and what have you, but it sucks. I want full screen arrow navigation. I know a webpage CAN do it, but why it won't do it is beyond me. The fact it CAN be done on commercial boxes with dedicated apps just annoys me so. I've tried to get copies of the apps meant for Blu-ray players, I even tried installing Dolphin to see if I could get the Wii version to work. No good.
I have a toddler that LOVES to push the panic button on the Ford's remote. Nah, about the only thing I'm really missing is opening the trunk without going to the drivers side door first, or opening the rear passenger door to shove the toddler into his seat first. Guess with time they decided you only need one keyhole on the outside of the car.
I've pulled this on a users behalf before. They both loved and hated it, and in reality it was an I.T. guy doing a work-around for what a user should do on their own. I've also converted videos to WMV. Same story, and THOSE videos won't work if they send the Power Point to a Mac user.
I just want some sort of plugin I can deploy with the KBOX that will launch it as though it were native, or better yet have VLC automatically report itself as the opener of those files like Quicktime did. (I looked it up, apparently 2013+ this isn't an issue).
I hate to ask for this because overall I'm anti-Microsoft, but I'm a systems administrator at a company and I can't seem to teach my users much of anything, any time I do they have turnover and it's lost. It would be great if there were some way to make VLC the player that worked with Power Point. For some gawd-aweful reason Microsoft thinks you need an Apple product to playback h.264 video in a Power Point presentation and we don't allow that anymore since it's pwned.

I have found that Slashdot represents the will of geekdom - companies can chose to follow the Slashdot consensus or crater. Microsoft has been able to resist, but even they haven't been unscathed, they've gone against the Slashdot consensus and very slowly have been slipping into irrelevance. Everyone else sells out, craters, or changes their way of doing things (look at some of the nastiest DRM schemes for an example).

Unreal stared out Linux friendly. I got GOTY working with Linux, I got the original Unreal working with some patches, 2003 was Linux compatible from the start as was 2004, then Microsoft made some maps for 2004. Unreal 2 wasn't Linux compatible, UT3 was GOING to be Linux compatible, I even bought my copy under the belief a patch/installer would happen, and it never did (you owe me a refund fucker). To top it off all the OLD Unreal games that came out as Linux compatible are only available for WIndows on Steam and other game distribution networks. I have a Mac OSX version of 2004 and it still works on modern OSX, but you don't even offer Mac versions on those networks, just WIndows.

Your company, of all the companies around, have one of the best track records of working with cross platform compatibility until UT2004, then you pull the plug and even shit all over your old games by making them Microsoft only to newcomers despite the fact you're pissed at Microsoft?

SInce they're just cherry picking mid-sized to large cities that already have reasonably good infrastructure - likely loads of dark-fiber - but ignoring large cities and bergs I can't take them seriously.
Also I know plenty of people in Austin that can't get Google fiber because "they're only near the capital, downtown, and college". Hard to take them seriously.
I put a Kodi system upstairs for our recording studio. They upload the commercials we made to it and play it to TV's within the building using SDI. Screw "YouTube" like - I put a "Tv Station" on an old Dell.

Since, with the exception of the X-Box One or course, the power supply was one of the most likely things to fail (somewhere behind optical drives) making that an external device just makes sense.

I've seriously considered getting one of those TV's that has built in Roku. If I'm not mistaken it will play back the media on my Kodi box anyways.

I rather like Sync. It's one of the biggest draws to the browser for me.
Most of the users at my company don't use it. It harms nothing being there. I don't care for pocket, have never used it. It doesn't bother me.
