I have had the service for about three weeks and it is very very fast. I conistantly get the 15Mbit down when doing speed test and downloading from major sites like Microsoft.
The bad news is that they do block all inbound ports that matter (21,23,25,80, etc) so hosting a real server is impossible. However, I do run a webserver on port 8080 and that works great... but many people can't get to it because not all firewalls let 8080 outbound work. I called support and complained about it and was pretty much told it was never going to be unblocked. That sucks because they never told me that when I order the service.
As a consumer class service it rocks... for a server... don't even bother.
I live in Keller, TX. I've been waiting months for this to happen. I am very excited. I'll sign up for the fastest service the day it becomes available.
We just purchased 12 of the new MDS switches. The MDS9509 is out of this world. McData and Brocade will be dead in a year.
See... Cisco let the market mature and then made a better product with better technology. Pretty smart if you ask me.
Really? That's odd. I would have placed a lot higher importance or "notability" on cell phone networks and emergency comminucations such as police radio, etc.
I guess I don't get this. If they have their telephone number why not just get their address from the phone company and mail them a fine or arrest them?
Register business.com and you will make 8 million dollars selling it to a.bomb company!!!!
Oh... and Pie Bill Gates on national TV and you will be a celebrity!! haha
"This is a fairly major revelation from Microsoft, and if it happens, it may be one of the biggest wins yet for open-source software: what do you know -- competition works!"
Mod as troll... whatever... But I can not for the life of me comprehend that statement. Competition is defined as: The act of competing, as for profit or a prize; rivalry. Check it yourself. It's pretty hard to compete with free. And if you ask me is the opposite of competition. What would you do if you ran a hot-dog stand and the guy accross the street started giving his away, along with his recipe? You would eventually go out of business. You would still have many who bought your hot-dogs, but no longer enough to sustain business. OSS can never be good for business in the long run. It can cause some good changes up front, but in the end it can not be good for business overall.
That being said, I run Linux on several machines, and really like the OSS movement for the most part. I am just worried on the effects it will have in the end, several years from now.
Well, my company clusters exchange on Win2K Advanced Server.
We run in what's called an active/active cluster. But for the most part, the machines are just sharing responsibility. In most windows clusters the other server is just sitting there waiting for the first to fail. They share two drives (on seperate hardware either fibre channel or SCSI attached) and when it fails, the other server picks up those drives. Windows writes data to those drives so when the other server picks it up it can import that data and pick up where the other server left off.
Clustering is PERFECT for fault tolerance. It is useless for most intents and purposes for load balancing. If you want load balancing you can use NLBS, but it just plain sucks, and never works right.
In the future, people with more money (rich bastards) will simple implant their fertilized eggs in a man-made womb and not have to ruin their movie-star bodies having a kid.
I'm sorry. That's exactly what I was getting at. I was in a hurry when typing that reply. Yes, signal strength tends to be very bad ad those distances, hence cause large latency and packet loss.
I agree! If it has to be one of these formats, windows media is the most stable and reliable.
I can just see my player running on REAL. It'd play have them movie and then terminate, only to make me power off and on my player before REAL will open again to play the rest of the movie!!!
Why would you want to Archive your pictures on Paper instead of on CD/DVD? Digital storage is the future, not paper.

Ok..... I can't resist. Mod -1 Troll.
Slashdot has lost it. It amazes me what is considered news worthy.
(most notibly WiFi networks.)

Who else get's annoyed when someone says "Automatic Teller Machine" Machine?
Now maybe USB will dies and Firewire(1394) can become the standard. IEEE 1394 is my choice!
STOP TAXING MY ASS... This is a robin hood mentality. If you decide to live in rural areas, expect to have some drawbacks to life. Life is a tradeoff.

So will this be the latest threat to spread and take over in america? Mating with our ISPs and turning them all into Africanized IPSs...
Or does Cringcrustly now work for Slashrot?? :)
That when Linux has a bug, its "supposedly" but when MS has a bug its "absolutely".
Just an observation....

That just means they are not reporting it to other people. You can be guaranteed the still mornitor it and use it internally.
Bastards!

Kinda Sketchy if you ask me....

I've found the latency of wireless to be horrible at long distances like this. Just my .02....
I visited http://www.shortskirtgirls.com/. Have you?

Sorry, I think MS wins on this one.
What bone head of a moderator rated this a troll??????? He's absolutely correct!!!
Typical Slashdot. Anytime you post anything pro MS, your flamebait. This will be slashdot's demise someday.
My best friends XBOX died last week. He's already received a replacement. I'd say it took about two days.
:)
My XBOX has been working flawlessly though.
