But how many beat-up, blue & white astromech droids would there be in the Star Wars universe? Maybe, with regular memory wipes, the AI of R2 units is quite simple and doesn't differ that greatly from droid to droid. After all, they don't even bother giving them voice capabilities. They're intended to fix ships and stay out of the way.

Maybe Obi-Wan would remember after he learned R2's name, and saw the message it was carrying.

(I've just had a sudden pang of nerd-angst. I'm sat here at 4am UK time on Saturday morning, discussing Star Wars on Slashdot :( )

If the mini's all started to exhibit failures and poor workmanship than that would harm the crossover (new mac users) market more than anything the competition could hope for.

Strangely enough, that seems to be happening.

I've been drooling over screenshots/reviews of OS X for ages now (Unix? Nice interface?), and I was pretty much ready to shell out for a Mini as my first Mac until I saw that report -- and many others like them.

It's a shame, but I don't really want to shell out £350+ with the risk that I won't be able to use it with my monitor. I guess I'll just keep looking for a cheap, second-hand G4 PowerMac on eBay.

I loved Rebellion. It was the game that finally made me give up on my Amiga gear and buy a PC. Yeah, the UI was a bit ropey, but once you stuck with it for a while, it became second nature.

The only problem I found with it was the lack of knowing what you were supposed to do when you first install and play it. It seemed to be a case of "here's the galaxy, do what you have to do." Without any indication of how you're supposed to go about it. It took a LOT of trial and error to get to grips with it.

I remember a friend of mine calling me, excitedly saying "I sent a probe droid to Hoth!" :)

Once I got used to it though, I played that game until my eyes bled. I'll never forget the first time I won. I bore down on the last remaining Rebel planet with a fleet of: 6 Interdictors, 30 Star Destroyers, 14 Super Star Destroyers, and a Death Star. All completely decked out with a full compliment of TIE Interceptors and Stormtroopers.

I'm getting all nostalgic now. I wonder if it runs under Wine? :)

PS: Empire at War looks like it might be a suitable Rebellion replacement, but we'll have to wait and see.
