In this case, I don't think the company has given the MSDN subscribtions to the employees. They could be transfered to someone else if an employee leaves the company.
I was in the beta (or was it even alpha I'm not sure) and it was really great, despite the really bad internet connection I had at the time! Maybe it was because it was new, but it was really fun. I remember the first M59 online wedding ceremony, lots of players had connected to see that:) I tried UO (the alpha was fun, but I didn't play more than a few hours in the retail version), EQ (I don't think I even played that one for more than an hour, I paid for at least 6 months though) but the one I remember with good memories is Meridian 59.
That's so annoying. I read an article on the Sims online and I get a huge spoiler on what's going to happen next in The Sopranos. Not everyone has seen all the latest episodes and in europe, they are airing episodes a few months late at least. If I was reading a Sopranos forum and got spoiled, I'd deserve it, but how am I supposed to know there is a spoiler in that article?
You're just spending too much time looking at your screen doing work and not enough near the coffee machine. Also increase your lunch break so that you can spend more time outside.:)
This one is simple but it really works. It comes from two simple observations:
- If there are serious looking stuff on screen and you use the keyboard a lot, it looks like you're working. - Your boss has probably no idea what you're doing with all the terminals windows. (Besides if you're like me they are using tiny characters that can only be read by the one sitting in front on the monitor)
So just use lynx to browse the web, (re)play the great classic infocom games, code fun little games and then do the gameplay tests, read ebooks. Just make sure that emacs is open with the current official coding project loaded and NOT always on the same page.
...and according to the article, it's not going to be, would that be that bad? It would not be the end of the world.
Halo seemed like a great game at the time, I would have bought it. But then it was an x-box exclusive. And as such it just wasn't an interesting game for me anymore. I just forgot all about it and played some other good PC games.
And here I was jumping up and down in front of my computer, thinking things like "but I don't remember anything about TI99/4A assembly language" when I realized it was not what they were talking about.
Please, kiddies, don't use the name of such classic games for your little open source projects.

It's a rule I found out after a few years in the coding business. Most of your work will go directly to the trashcan.
Companies you're working for go bankrupt before your code has been used, projects get cancelled, clients (or managers) change their minds all the time and you have to recode some parts 10 times.
Not to mention doing quick'n'dirty code to meet a deadline and then you're told "Oh, finally we didn't do the demo, we didn't have the time for it". And you can press the delete key and start recoding that part the right way (or sometimes you have to leave it that way and it will come back to haunt you later).
CmdrTaco may already be in the FedEx numbers tracking phase but I'm still in the denial phase. It's easier to pretend that christmas doesn't happen this year until the last minute where I'll enter the panic phase and be forced to go buy stuff. I hate christmas:(
When I looked at the url, of that linked site I knew we had already given this site free advertisement on slashdot. I didn't bother clicking it again as that's obviously another lame attempt to get the slashdot crowds on their site.

Trusting the site owners is not the same as trusting the content from its users. I trust the slashdot people, I don't trust the trolls that are posting goatse links.
Well, from other sites can be blocked easily from the GUI (I always do that). If you want to do browsing with a minimum of security you have to disable all . As for , I'm not sure, I have no flash and no java nor any kind of plugins. Can that still be used to send me content?
Well, anyway there should be an option "never connect to a host other than the one I typed in the url".

The LHC being only a few kilometers away from where I live, I guess I'll be one the first to get to play Half-Life 2. I'm so lucky ;)

I spent hours designing and driving my own circuits. It's with Stunt Car Racer, one of my favorite racing game.
