I am a Republican and stand by a lot of what this administration does. However, Republicans are shooting themselves in the foot by getting behind stupid proposals that do little but preserve outdated business models. We've let Democrats appear to be the forward-thinking party by taking bass-ackwards positions on things like IP law. While I'll stand behind the war in Iraq, I'll march against stupidity like this. Expanding the DMCA is a joke.
It's nice to think of a world without religion until you realize that in history nearly every civilization that digressed morally fell. Without a moral code, why should be be civil? To what end? So we can "get along?" Why? What inherent need is there? As an animal my responsibility is to procreate and stifle my competition. The greater good is simply to inject and humanist religion to replace the theistic one. Why should man be god? If there is no god, your well being means nothing to me. Mine does.
I think you make a good point. Microsoft probably doesn't want to go into court to validate the patents. What they can hope for is that many companies will simply cave, choosing compliance over litigation. The enterprise is ultimately their bread-n-butter and they're going to them to bank on the FUD. If this were to go to court, they'd lose a lot of the patents, and may actually win on some. However, that opens to door to IBM, HP, and others to turn to Microsoft and say, "Okay, let's see how many patents you violate!" That number would be equally large. My guess is that ultimately, many of the patents that Microsoft has claim to would be invalidated by prior art. The Linux kernel simply bears far more resemblance to UNIX than Windows. Other OSS apps may appear more vulnerable but again I think ultimately these patents are untested and will largely be proven invalid if tried.
Dude, chill. Live a little. WTF are you going to do when GWB is out of office? Who are you going to blame for your problems? Grow up!
Meanwhile, back at the point, I think people forget too easily that the U.S. is a large country. If we're going to lament technology adoption let's compare it to say China or Australia or some other country with a large citizenry. Also, what does "all that digital life has to offer" mean? Are they dealing strictly with Internet technology or factoring in HD adoption?
"There are liberal Christians but they don't get counted of course."
Cool! You get it! Frankly, I'm not sure you can be a Christian and a Liberal.
Mod me, Baby! Spread the love!
This whole attorney firing "scandal" is bogus. The president can do this. Clinton fired over 90 in one swing, as I recall an no one seemed too concerned then. This is his right as president. This is less about "integrity" and certain has nothing to do with legality and is more about "everything Bush does has to be wrong."
Except there is no indication that there was anything illegal or immoral about the firing of the US Attorneys...
Exactly. No one seems too upset about a Congress run-amuck. Where were they when Clinton did the same thing? They serve at the President's discretion, he can fire them. Get over it.
Yeah because what we really need is some kind of forced cooperation mechanism! Fuckit, how about a standardizing board that dictates it! Yeah! As long as it's not the government because that would contradict my hippie tendencies.
You drink too much, or not enough. I'm not sure which it is with you but you're not drinking the right amount.
"As far as pricing is concerned the phone itself costs $695 USD"
Like most Linux mobile devices, these are priced completely out of the market. Is there a conspiracy to keep Linux out of the mobile market? Could all of these efforts actually be funded by the big mobile makers? Okay, I know its not possible but you begin to wonder. I remember when the Zaurus came out. Let's see, a Palm or (shudder) WinCE device for $299 or a Zaurus for $599. Wow! How's a consumer to choose!?
The core curriculum should get paid more. Stop treating politically correct, touchy-feely crap on par with Math, Science, and Language skills. I'm much rather my kids learn the skills needed to earn a living than learn that Timmy gets his feelings hurt and Sally doesn't feel pretty.
So in short, he doesn't support your position...disagrees with those you agree with...and generally is "contrarian" to your position...therefore the man's obviously crazy.
This isn't the first time I've heard that other planets are warming too. Additionally, the Sun being warmer is apparently quite accepted and I would think fairly easy to measure. The "fact" is, it is warmer. Yes, humans may be contributing to Global Warming but it was going to warm up anyway and human contribution is an almost insignificant percentage. Its enough of a percentage, however, to capitalize on now isn't it!
The reason why is simple. Don't fuck with money. The same is true in Major League Baseball. Otis Nixon was caught using cocaine. No biggie. Didn't involve money. Pete Rose gambled. That involved money. He will pay a stiffer price, so to speak. This guy should have shot someone he'd be out sooner depending on the circumstances.
I'm convinced, based on the balance of data I've read about, that while man may contribute to the problem the problem is out of our control. The climate is changing, as it always has. In fact, evidence shows that the relative stable climate we have enjoyed as humans is NOT the norm. The arrogance isn't so much that we think we're controlling it so much as that we think our slice of perception is as it has always been. In that sense human-cause theorists are just a narrow-minded as they like to claim others are. One fact is inexcusable: The climate will get warmer because it always has and it will cool again. The thinking that we can stop it is futile. Can we make contributions, yes but given that we know it will happen anyway, we should be taking a serious look at the cause. The data is just not conclusive as to cause, despite the well-intentioned.
Uh...you're high. First, I seriously doubt that. If they are THAT educated, how do you explain their president? Second, who cares?

Doh! Sorry, should have been a reply to the AC reply.

That's one way to avoid pissing off Mr. Gates: insure he wins no matter what. Which is pretty-much his business philosophy.
Why does Microsoft have to pontificate about every other company's offerings to prop themselves up? Okay, this is a rhetorical question.
Wait! Someone got WiFi to work in Linux!?
Okay, easy...just saying this is one area that's always been behind in Linux.

I wasn't referring to the travel office scandal. Clinton fired 93 U.S. attorneys on March 24, 1993.br.
Except there is no indication that there was anything illegal or immoral about the firing of the US Attorneys...
Exactly. No one seems too upset about a Congress run-amuck. Where were they when Clinton did the same thing? They serve at the President's discretion, he can fire them. Get over it.He should have used the word "innovation." Microsoft has been ripping off people for years and calling it that.

OxyReduct...brilliant. Someone stay up all second to come with that name?
The assimilation has begun. Resistance is, apparently, futile.
Understood. Yet, when it hits the market I will still be right. :)
