The light in the GBA SP IS in front of the LCD screen (or more accurately, around the edges in front) . It has to be since the LCD is transreflective. The screen reflects and light hitting it back through the pixels. This prevents the screen from getting washed-out in bright daylight.
Just so you know, these TiVos don't have file sharing. They have LAN streaming. Which means one TiVo on a lan can stream a show to another TiVo an the same Local Area Network. I am sure a hack could be made to send the show over the Internet, but it is not an official feature.
I think he was refering to bypassing a VoIP service provider. The Cisco box used by vonage has the ability to connected directly to another cisco box (I believe you use the # as the dot in the IP address), thereby completely ignoring the service provider. For this you need a static IP.
I keep seeing people saying this as being a stumbling block to voip. I don't really understand though, is not having 911 that big of a deal? The town I grew up in didn't have it till the mid 90s and we managed to survive OK.
Also, unless I am mistaken, 911 is typically linked to a regular local number. So you can just program that number into a speed dial function of your phone. While the 911 operator won't be able to pull up an address, the same is true of cell phones and I know plenty of people that have replaced their land lines with cells.
But for the price of the Media Center PC you can buy 2 set-top PVRs with activation/service. And as a PVR owner two tuners is much better than unlimited space.
Plus w/ replayTV you can just use DVarchive (http://dvarchive.sourceforge.net/) to offload your shows to your PC and stream them back to your replaytv whenever you want.
I don't want a backlit, colour LCD. If I did, I wouldn't be able to play in the bright sunlight. My screen would be washed out.
Frontlit is a better solution in this case. Ever notice how all of the PDAs nowadays are Frontlit?
each year, I might as well leave my front door unlocked, right? Or better yet, if I am a builder of homes, there is no reason to install those locks at all.
If the purpose is to get from A to B more rapidly, then a bicycle does a better job and has the added advantage that it retails for a twentieth the price and gets you fit in the process.
Yeah but if you have ever tried to use a bike on a crowded sidewalk you would know why they are sometimes a pain in urban areas. The footprint of a person on a bike is much bigger than a person walking (or in this case a person on a segway). And that footprint increases when you stop because you have to balance yourself.
Also don't forget that taking a bike to work while wearing a suit in Summer isn't exactly the best idea either. Unless you feel like scaring away your co-workers with your stank.
While I agreee that bikes are better for your health and often times a better overall choice, the segway does have its benefits. Though at the current cost the cost/benefit ration is well in the bikes favor. When/if the segway ever hits $1000, then it will be much more practical.
This is designed as a replacement for cars in the city. Basically it extends the range that you can comfortably travel without using cars, mass transit, or cabs. While you would probably normally take your car, a cab or the subway to travel a long distance in NYC, you can now use the Segway.
It is still overpriced, but an interesting invention nontheless.
You obviously haven't seen the tungsten yet have you? I was playing around with it a staples this weekend and I was very impressed. While it may not seem that powerful, with Palm OS it is especially snappy. Builtin Bluetooth gives it nice connnectivity options. Also the collapsable form factor is awesome. I have never seen a PDA with so many features that is so tiny.
Commerical Advance (a copyrighted technology owned by some other company) automatically skips over commercials you do not have to push a single button (granted the algorithm is not 100% accurate). This is a feature in addition to Replay's 30 second skip button.
Well as a replay owner this does happen to us too. But this is more or less a fault of the TV stations than the devices. They release there programming information to a 3rd party (TMS I believe) and the 3rd party supplies the info to both TiVo and Replay. So if the Networks don't abide by what they tell the 3rd party then it is nearly impossible to record the show correctly.
Weird...I always thought I was part of GenX

The only problem comes when the ads are served server side. Like if you send a request to the server for certain page and it returns an ad instead (with a click here to go to the article link). I don't think Mozilla can counter that.

I believe amazon has the t68 either for free or very cheap after rebate. But this is only with a new t-mobile service activation.
http://dvarchive.sf.net Only for the newer models with built in ethernet. 2.0 should be released soon (next week) which will add some new features.

Rendezvous is not proprietary! It is just apples name for zeroconf:

Yep, I was using one at bestbuy a few months ago and in order to download guide data you had to agree to some sort of ad tracking.

Just noticed that myself. Pretty nifty.

It has built in ethernet. The WiFi card is optional.
Well I tried to do this myself and wound up ruining my GBA. That made me 0 for 2 for soldering projects so I threw my soldering iron away.

woops, meant C3 processor.
IIRC, Tivo isn't x86 based. This is (it uses the C# processor from cyrix). This means it should be easier to roll your own PVR.

Unlimited downloads is only for the first year. After that it becomes 15MB/month and $3.50 each additional MB.
