Anyone who points to box office receipts and claims that it somehow shows how movie X is better than movie Y is implicitly announcing his or her love for the movie Titanic, and thus is gay.
The funny thing about all the Spider-Man vs AOTC garbage (and don't let me get off on a rant about how movie-geeks these days can't just enjoy movies for what they are rather than comparing them to everything else; I'm so goddamn sick of Matrix vs SW vs LOTR vs Spider-Man debates.. If you're ever involved in one of these, seriously get a life, loser)... is that Spider-Man suffers from much of the same problems as the harshest critics of AOTC claim.
The acting in Spider-Man is just as cheesy. The so-called romance is just as silly. Both can be targetted for overusing computer graphics, though AOTC's use of graphics was on a much higher level than anything else to date, including Spider-Man (except that one scene where Anakin was riding on the Naboo-pig or whatever...Here's a hint, special FX guys: Don't ever put a humanish figure 'riding' on something that's bucking around. Looked fake & stupid in Starship Troopers, Lord of the Rings, and now AOTC as well).
IMO, both Spider-Man and AOTC are great fanboy movies with tons of flaws if you care to nitpick...But I take them for what they are. Also I'd like to have hot sex with both Kirsten Dunst and Natalie Portman, preferably at the same time.
When I click the Slashdot banner in the top left of the page, I want to go back to the Slashdot main page, not the page of whatever 'section' I'm in (developers, apple, whatever.slashdot.com).
Matthew McConaughey, Harvey Keitel, Jon Bon Jovi...Are these really people nobody has ever heard of?
Ok, well this IS a 'geek site'. But c'mon Bill FUCKING Paxton is in this movie! Never heard of him? When's the last time you crawled out from under your rock?
As far as the rest of the review goes, the filmmakers always proclaimed loudly that this movie was historical fiction, not to be taken seriously.
This movie was in many ways not very good, but I don't really see how it was bad enough to warrant a Slashdot review (or a review on any other site, for that matter) approximately 500 years after it was released...
How are they going to play your modules without downloading the content, foolio? And if normal users can download your content, so can bioware. And once Bioware has your content they can do whatever they want with it royality free because you agreed to that implicitly by creating the content and using their tools.

There are tons of companies I choose not to do business with based on who runs them and the differences in ideals I have with them -- the fact that the differences in ideals are wrapped up in a pseudo-religion has no bearing on the matter.
And also, that's not discrimination..If I didn't give someone a job because they were a Scientologist, that would (sadly) be a case of discrimination. Of course in practice that's not really a problem because anyone who is a Scientologist is by definition STUPID and therefore I can always weed them out on that basis.

Abolutely true. Sky Dayton, founder of Earthlink, is a known Scientologist. A lot of the cost to start it up was bankrolled by Kevin O'Donnell, a rather wealty Hollywood Scientologist.
Back when the company was in Glendale (before it became the big ISP we all know and hate) it was staffed with like 90% Scientologists. The CTO was Brian Wenger, who used to edit the "Pro-Scientology" FAQ
Another of their employees was Philip Gale. He worked there when he was 16, before going to MIT and killing himself.
Stay far away from Earthlink...Not only are they a shitty business, but any money you send there way helps Scientology.
Brand loyalty in sports games isn't as strong as you suggest. The first year 989 started pumping out games and the EA (Madden, etc) games were pretty lackluster, Sony/989 trounced EA in sales. When 989s games started sucking soon after, for who knows what reason, they were dropped like a bad habit.
Yes, there are some brand loyalty issues with these constant year-after-year games (sports titles), but they aren't as strong as you make out, and the Sega/Visual Concepts games do kick quite a lot of ass over other available sports games right now.
The Matrix was a really great movie and I loved the fact that it just popped up unhyped..
I wanted to love this teaser, but I just sat there thinking "Uh well this is pretty lame". The ever-so-brief Morpheus-with-a-sword scene looks like it has promise, but the rest looks like boring car chases and silly fights. All of that slo-mo wire-work on the staircases looks stupid, IMO.
I'm still hopeful they can pull this movie off, but based on this teaser alone I'm much less excited about seeing this movie than I was before I saw it.
There won't be a pure software hack. The XBOX uses a media-check system like the PS1 and PS2 and the check can't be defeated by any consumer-available CDRs or DVDRs... The XBOX won't even LOOK at software that doesn't pass the media check, and you won't pass the media check unless you've got an XBOX original DVD, a fully bit-for-bit copy (that is currently way out of the range of any consumer (or even most pro) DVD writers), or the box is modded with one of these chips to bypass the media check.
The common carrier stuff was pretty much pissed out the window a few years ago due to the DMCA and other similar laws that have effectively neutered it.
No, I believe you ARE wrong, and it IS censorship. Nobody is asking them to publish anything - your analogy with a newspaper is flawed. It's content that's already available that they are supressing access to, and that's the critical difference.
I'll repeat it - you DO NOT have to be appointed by the government in order to be a censor.
No, you're wrong... If they blocked publication of the web sites completely, that's censorship, if they merely stop that content from crossing wires they own, that's a business decision. Maybe a stupid one, but its NOT censorship... So don't be a moron, moron.
Regardless, it IS censorship when one entity takes responsibility for determining what material others can or cannot view.
When a company does it, its not censorship, its editorial control.
Should a newspaper publish every damn thing that might be somewhat interesting to me just because they own the printing press and I pay for the paper? No.. Real world constraints mean they have to pick and choose what I can see in their newspaper.
It seems fashionable on Slashdot to assume that bandwidth is an unlimited commodity but it isn't, it has its limits, clearly Cingular (if this story is even true, which is not confirmed) believes that the cost to carry porn over their systems would be too great.
And I repeat, if you don't like it you can always choose not be a member of their service.
Don't misunderstand me, I believe this smacks of very stupid public relations (if true), and if I were using Cingular I might stop based on principle, but I'd never call this _censorship_ because its not.
You don't buy bandwidth. You LEASE access to the ISP's equipment. They are free to block whatever they want. If you don't like it, get another ISP, but ultimately that's the way it works.
Even if this is true, its NOT A CASE OF CENSORSHIP. People on Slashdot tend to throw that word around far too freely. When a company stops you from doing or saying something on their equipment (even if you pay for it/lease it), that's not censorship...If you don't like their policy, use a competitor. If the GOVERNMENT mandated that cell phone web access couldn't include smut, THAT would be censorship.

Fix it now, motherfuckers!

In any case they seem to have fixed the graphic glitch that causes everything to be slightly green tinted from the last release of The Matrix OS.
You forgot the 30 seconds or so of nothing but black at the beginning, before The Matrix Scroll(TM) starts.

You dirty communist. If you don't love America, leave it, and bring your Linux hippie friends with you.
Actually that's exactly what the parent I was replying to suggested....Thus my reply to it.

Except to gamble..And hell, if you want to gamble, why not gamble big? Its no fun if your life isn't on the line.

Make sure you add a Jon Katz post to that sign to REALLY keep them away.
Deep down you want to suck Bill Gates' cock, don't you?
