Explain that restricting access to information is immoral, and open source is the right thing to do. If that doesn't work, just post the code online with a copy of the GPL and don't mention it to them. Heh.
If the client owns the IP to the code, which is usually the case (unless you get it in writing that all they are paying for is a non-exclusive license to use it, they own the code by default..work for hire) then you are commiting a copyright violation by submitting the code as GPL, because you don't own it!
Agreed. The guy who asked the question is on crack. The client wouldn't be paying for this software if it didn't have real value to him/her. So why we he/she want you to go giving out to everyone else for free?
Unless its a very special case (say, the client is a non-profit), I'd say don't bother mixing your OSS politics with business here.
Your suggestion doesn't deal with any of the psychology of the situation...Namely, how do you stop the client from feeling ripped off when he paid for the development and yet everyone else gets it for free?
If it were the 'warez dudes' would label it as such. A pre-release screener would be HUGE news. No such screener has been released. Sorry, you're wrong.
Sorry but its a camera job and moderator points boosting the parent post have been wasted.
The people who pirate these movies on the net have gotten quite good at camera-based filming, but its clear from the blur and the color distortion that its a camera.
The reason you don't see people getting up and walking and such is that they film these (using pretty high quality digital cameras) at UNANNOUNCED showings of the film..You see, they know people who work at the movie theater (or they themself work there)... Its simple really.
In any case, don't take my word for it, look around for the movie release's "NFO"
where the group who released it label it as a TELESYNC. TELESYNC means its a camera job, but they captured the sound nearly-directly using those hearing impaired headphone jacks that high-end theaters have.
If I wanted to read a Spider-Man rules, Star Wars sucks flamewar (or a LOTR rules/SW sucks, or SW rules/anything else sucks), I'd go read Ain't it Cool News.
They're all just movies. If one makes more than the other does that make it a better or worse movie? No. Movies are art, movies are subjective. So please shut your goddamn fucking trap, Katz. You have NO integrity.
Ransom Love..sounds like a cheesy love ballad from one of those 80s hair bands. I bet he got beat up a lot as a kid. Hell, he probably still gets beat up.
I'm not a violent man but I don't think I could stop myself from punching a guy named Ransom Love.
It is a little known fact that Caldera Linux includes source code that was stolen from Microsoft Windows to speed up the graphics routines. That's why Caldera Linux has a file called/usr/lib/direct3d8.so.
It is stolen code that maps OpenInventor code to DirectX using the special undocumented API that only Caldera can use because they are a monopoly on the Linux desktop.
The biggest problem with the cable modem uncapping software is that it won't run with Linux because Linux doesn't have a true TCP/IP stack, just a kludged PPP driver.
So unfortunately this can't be used with Linux, only Windows, because Microsoft doesn't allow anyone to use the patents it has on TCP/IP so the other companies need to create kludge work around using the SAMBA user interface.
GNU/Richard Stallman was born on the such and such of the year nineteen hundred and such and such. At school nobody liked him because he didn't shower and he smelled really bad so he decided to create Free Software. The End.
Today I read a funny joke on the net, it was about a Chinese game called Winger Zero and in the intro some guy says "All the base are belonging to me!".
HAHA. That is the funniest thing I've read yet on the internet!!!
Most of the stuff you find online is training stuff, like Learn Photoshop or Learn HTML in 21 days or whatever.
There's a dearth of available electronic copies of programming-type texts, except for those where the author/publish creates their own version (like all of Bruce Eckel's books).
There's also the group of people who use it because its non-mainstream and they think it makes them 'kewl' or 'el33t' because they know a handful of UNIX/Linux commands and how to exploit a SENDMAIL bug or two.
At least you can get close enough to ESR to be within small weapons range. When it comes to RMS, his awful foul stench will drive you away much sooner. I'd rather not be around either of these wackos though.
Seriously though, we've all seen Slashdot do this.. Usually its something stupid like a spelling or grammar fix after a few posts point it out, but if you're going to harp on something like this here you should at least acknowledge that Slashdot does it as well. At the very least it points to the fact that the net isn't a newspaper and shouldn't be held to the same standards. On the net, things evolve.
And yes, I realize Slashdot isn't a news site like CNN is, so maybe things are a BIT different, but Roblimo still should have addressed this issue.

Its not a great business enviornment to be hardass on pricing in order to further your political goals..

FWIW, Bill Gates never said "640k is enough for anyone" either.
Both are just completely made up and people believe it because they want to believe it, not because its true.
Stop being sheep.
I'm glad they killed him. If he didn't want to die he shouldn't have been making weapons for Iraq.. Stupid fuck.

Fox News eh? That one ought to be free from bias...
Hah, just kidding. George Bush is a fag.

I don't like Oracle.

Hahha!!
Whenever you register for a site that requires your email address, use the address of a local congressman instead of your own!

Also Linux users are gay.
I conclude that your mother is my bitch and she should suck my dick.
