Perhaps you could inject some silicon under the buttons, i guess that would stop the clickdown sound. Anyway, I just listened carefully to my mouse and it makes 2 clicking sounds, one when the button is pressed and one when it is released. Try to examine an old mouse, rip it into pieces and see where the sound comes from... Another solution is to waer headphones while sitting in front of your computer...
Oh that 17inch monitor looks really cool, but what about the price? I'd say it's at least 2x the price of a normal 17" TFT, and that's too much for home use.
Sometimes I see duplicate stories on Slashdot. What's up with that?
These are just mistakes on the part of the staff. They happen. We have posted over ten thousand stories in our history. The occasional duplicate is inevitable.
If you see a duplicate, you can mail the story's author. If the story is still quiet, we may pull it down. However, once the comments are rolling in, we often leave the story up so that the discussion can continue.
Some people have suggested that there might be a software solution to this problem. If you think you've got one, visit the Slashcode site and submit a diff. As long as it isn't a performance hit, I'd consider using it. (Be aware however that the trick of searching for duplicate URLs isn't as helpful as you might think, since the same story can appear in multiple locations.)
The harddisks are really suffering if you start them up/power them down often, because they're mecanical and the material inside the disk is not that strong to support that. Therefore a lot more disks are failing in workstations than in servers. Heat is a really important subject, too!
mental illness, love, and accomplishment Oh um, these are some of the themes "a beautiful mind" was about, which recieved 4 oscars, too. I found it a lot more interesting that LoTR!
We have this here in Luxemburg, too at quite a few places. It is quite impossible to send/recieve short messages or calls at our local supermarket (about 4000m^2). I think they use some kind of device to interference the mobile-phone's signal. The same thing you've got when you're in an underground car-park etc... outside the building you've got full quality net.
I've seen something like that. You could coose an image (the more complicate, the better) and define some points, which you have to remember. To login, you have to click the points you selected before, with more or less accuracy in a predefined order.
I agree. But at the moment the 2.4 series is full of bugs, and it will take marcelo big effort to get these sorted out. I think it is funny compared to all the other answers he could have give to this question. That one is clear and straight - therefore funny:)
So you've taken the first step and installed FreeBSD Yes! The article is really well written and couvers the various topics how to install/update and configure software. It's not really in-depth but it's a good mixture of descripiton and examples. I've been searching for an article like this for a long time and this one is really good as it explains cleary what you do.
Typing on a flat surface is indeed really tough, just try it... write some letters on a sheet of paper and try to type sth. on that! Perhaps you can't call it typing anymore, it's just touching!?
I can get along with both of em, FreeBSD as server-os and linux for the desktop... they're both great systems, each with its advantages and disadvantages...
Or a BSD project? the only thing i could find to download was a sawfish theme... This looks like a webpage-in-a-minute site with nuke and no serious content?!
Oh, I like my Mutt/Procmail/Fetchmail Mail system most ... it simply does what it should do!

I'll continue to use (even older) versions of samba, and i won't care about the fools from redmond.

How does that thing crash your computer? or is it the os? does it crash on linux, too? or with freebsd?
they do not yet have pricing up for the Windows version
...
I know the price: too much!
If you're right, noone replies

dW: How will you tell whether or not you're doing a good job?
Tosatti: When I stop receiving bug reports.
Score +4, Funny
Hum, I thought it were the oracle of deli? Now i'm confused ...

It's not always like that ... unfortunately!

Yes, this is nice ... in case of a disk failure, simply flop in the floppy, reboot an your server is running again, at least for gateway services!

perhaps i'm blind
oh man, I can see every 2nd slashdot reader change his password due to this article :-)
We've had this kind of question once, but it was for a home server room, this shouldn't be too different!
