    Along the way, there were numerous failings - Windows 3.0, Windows 95 (while successful, was buggy) Windows ME, Windows Vista.

    Good post.So what you're saying is that every-other Windows release is successful. Sales-wise and review-wise you'd be correct. We shall see what happens with Windows 9

    I agree. As someone living in NYC at the time, none of our cell phones worked and television was knocked out for a while (I think it was CBS that was still broadcasting because their antenna was on the Empire State Building.).

    A largely text-only site like Slashdot is the best scenario for such situations.

    The masses don't know about this story yet. Once the Gay Marriage debate dies down a bit (or once the decision is released) and this becomes the next big court case, you will see overwhelming popular support for eliminating gene patents.

    Then again, I supposed Citizens United is very unpopular too, and that seems to have passed...

    Someone in the hacking comminity will create a channel via Homebrewthat mimics the functions of these defunct channels. For news and weather, they will get the information from some free public RSS-type feed.

    Lets say it costs 1 dollar.

    That is 1 dollar less that they can use for something else.

    If it costs $1 to keep this story off of Slashdot, engadget and joystiq then it's worth it. If it costs $10 million, not so much. That's why knowing the cost of this service would be helpful.

    I had a surprisingly good time spinning the globe and looking at weather around the world, and zooming in and out and learning a little geography along the way. I spent a good amount of time with it, to be honest. That was the great thing about it -- it was just a really nice 3D-ish/VR-ish globe that you could zoom in and out of, like Google Maps.

    I did the exact same thing. I used to zoom all the way out until you saw outer space and stars behind Earth, then I'd spin the globe around like Superman.

    I agree that people should be paid a living wage, but the problem is that a living wage in New York is very different than a living wage in India. Paying someone $100 for a week's worth of work may not buy food for your family of four, but it will in other parts of the world. I'm not saying that this is right, I'm just saying...

But I have a really great reason why that value system is stupid, so I will declare it doesn't exist. I may have a point, I may not, but I will deny that the website owners have a value system. Therefore, is it a correct statement to say "There's no value system anywhere that says you should."].

    In the original movie it was Nicaragua and Cuba alongside the Russians. When it was written it was during a political crisis in Central America. China never had anything to do with it. (Which isn't surprising since China has not been historically expansionist.)

    I think the GP meant that the 2012 release was actually filmed as a US vs Chinese invasion. Fearing a Chinese backlash, the invading army was changed to North Korea.

    I thought the same thing myself when the father cried on camera about how traumatizing this was. Give me a freaking break - your kids saw some porn, not a video of some beheading or something. If I were a lawyer, I would *totally* tell my client to cry on camera to show how much "damage" was caused.

    Besides - HOW DID THE MEDIA FIND OUT ABOUT THIS??? It's not like Gamestop would have publicized it. The only possible way this got exposed was from the customer's (i.e. the father's) side. And if he is so "traumatized," why is he making his 5 year-old repeat this "trauma" on camera over and over?

    I had to give up modding posts to put this up, but it NEEDS to be said how cool Capcom is for supporting this. You could have legally sued this guy's ass, but instead you didn't and thanked him for his efforts.

    Capcom - I am a 33 year old living in Manhattan (i.e. target demo). I was not planning to, but now I will *specifically* purchase a Capcom game as my next purchase as a way of letting you know that I support these measures. Maybe Resident Evil 6.

    Would Bears Sterns and Lehman have failed? Probably either way.

    But Seriously? Politics aside, if you really think a Gore Cabinet would have responded to the 9/11/01 attacks with a war in Iraq (led by the mean man who bullied Bush's dad a few years earlier), you are too easily dissuaded by the websites you're reading.

    fustakrakich, I know you refuse to have a rational conversation (we all know why). We both know I was not asking for your opinion on the Mexican Civil War (although nice attempt at distraction!), the Spanish Inquisition, the assassination of Mahatma Gandhi or murder in general. I'll make it a very easy YES/NO question:

    Yes or No: Do you condemn the attempted murder of a 14 year old whose crime was being a girl and learning to read?

    Any reply that does not begin with YES or NO will be followed by "fustakrakich supports the murder of teenage girls who learn to read."

    Riiiiiiight. And the people who shot a 14 year-old girl in the face for the terrible crime of learning to read are simply misunderstood freedom fighters.

    Seriously, I'll have a rational conversation with you. First, just declare Malala's shooters as "savage, murderous terrorists whose actions I completely 100% condemn" (just cut-and-paste) and I promise to have a civil and respectful conversation with you. Spin it in any way other than a cut-and-paste and I think we all know who we're dealing with here.
