..and what happens when this reaches you in your future country? Running away does not solve the problem so much as it delays it.
Change will come.. this I am sure of. There are people in this country that do still believe in the constitution. They simply need to be awakened.
Heed these words, my friend.
"But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security."
Those seem like symptoms for Pink Slip. You might want to get that in check:)

i just look at the screen every 5 minutes or so. i can't imagine a life interrupted and ruled by the random claptrap of a cellphone ringing
You can't imagine your life interrupted and ruled by a cellphone ringing, yet you look at your phone every 5 minutes?
I can easily say that the only time I ever even remember I have my cellphone on me is when it vibrates when I'm at work. At home, I switch it to ringer and it's all normal. I'm not latched to anything. If I don't want to talk, or I can't talk, I simply don't pick up. There's no law saying you can't pick up the phone. If I'm in a meeting, I put the damn thing on silent and it won't vibrate or ring.
If I forget that I have it on silent, when I'm done work at the end of the day I'll look at it to put it on ringer and see what I missed. Those that are really important know my work number. Everyone else can wait.
I think you seriously just need to get the stick out of your ass and relax a little bit. So what if people are celebrating religious holidays? How is this seriously hurting you? If you're angry that you can't go to work because you were given a day off, then you have bigger issues.
People like you are why a lot of stuff is going to shit. People have to now watch what they're saying because they need to be politically correct. You can't say Merry Christmas, you must say Happy Holidays. You have to tiptoe around what you really want to say, because heaven forbid you offend someone.
Honestly, just shut up and relax. I don't believe in any religion, but I dont mind at all in letting people celebrate what they believe. Christmas, as much as it doesn't seem so, is still a time for families to come together. Ya people are taking the whole gift thing way out of line, but in the end families are still coming together and having a good time. That right there is more than enough reason to make this a national holiday, which I support.
Now stop your bitching, get off your computer and go visit your goddamn family.
Isn't this like saying Airbags are too safe? I thought whole point of metadata is to make it easier to search and find data? How can it be *too* helpful?
The other day, I was driving with my fiance when we got on the topic of cd's. She proceeded to tell me that there's this great cd that I need to get because the band is really good. I proceeded to tell her that I haven't purchased a cd for almost 4 years now because of my dislike for the RIAA. After explaining everything to her, she just got all flustered and said that she didn't care about all that crap. She didn't care that even though she paid for the cd, she didn't fully own. She didn't care about all the bully tactics the RIAA uses. She didn't care about any of that, she just wanted the music.
I agree with you that the majority of the people just dont care. As much as I try and inform people of all the crap the RIAA pulls, it just goes in one ear and out the other.
For now, I suppose I'll just continue on with my silent protest.
Slashdotting the government servers will do zero good but get this site shut down. It's one thing having the Slashdot effect, but it's a whole other thing trying to use it to our advantage.
Our weapons for freedom can be our webbrowsers, because most of us are too untrained, too cowardly or too afraid of the very real jail sentence that awaits to pick up a gun and revolt.
That's interesting to note. It's not that people are too untrained, cowardly or afraid. It's that times are a lot different now then the 1800s. Back then, a few guys with guns could make a difference. Now, unless you have a sizable army a few guys with guns can't even step out of their house.
The new form of revolting requires you to make your voice heard. Look at this past election. Ya, Bush might've won but do you think that it would've been such a close race if people wouldn't have opened their mouths and started speaking?
We're in a new time period my friend. I'm afraid your touting a gun and revolting days are long past and it's time for fresh new ideas.
This is one of the problems I think with society today. As much as we are against it, and as much as we preach that they're horrible, not one of us will do anything. We'll just go on our day downloading music. A bunch of us will even still buy their cd's.
I know I haven't done much, but I have refused to purchase / download any RIAA backed music for the last 4 years. It's not much, but I do know that my money isn't funding this piece of shit organization. They're ruthless in getting their money and whether you are downloading or purchasing, you are supporting them. How? You are spreading their work.
The worst part is that no judge has stopped them. What ever happened to the 'for the people' part of this country? The RIAA is for the people? What people? The ones getting sued for thousands when they don't have it or the ones getting the thousands to purchase fuel for their private jet?
I think people need to realize that the RI fucking AA is nothing without us. If we all stop buying their music they will fade away. In order for them to live, we have to continue to feed them. By downloading or purchasing music we are doing just that; feeding the beast. Let it starve and they'll be forced to figure out some other way to distribute their songs or quit while they're ahead.
Of course, this will all fall on deaf ears because as soon as the next article comes out we have to debate that. But hey, at least I tried something right?
Given the opportunity, every single country in the world would want to be #1. The United States just happens to be in that position.
The real reason America doesn't want anyone but America to have Atomic Weapons is because those countries won't be as responsible with it.
We have experience with the bomb. We know the devastation it can cause. We know the consequences of using it, and we don't want anyone else to. That's why America is against using the A-Bomb.
You guys can preach all you want about the USA wanting to be a bully, but you damn well know that if any other country was in this position, they'd do their best to stay up here as well.
It's sad to see the state that Disney is in. My fiance is an animator, so we've had our fair number of trips down to Orlando. She knows a number of animators, most of which have been fired.
A lot of the animators have started up their own studios though. I think Firefly Studios is one? Regardless, I think the Disney that Walt had imagined is long gone and far from coming back. They need to stop pumping out sequels and start creating movies with good stories.
It doesn't matter what medium the movie is delivered in; it's the story that delivers.
I work at a government contractor, and I know a bunch of the guys have tats. I had a pierced lip, but I let it close up when I got the job to look professional.
It might be tolerated, but it doesn't mean you should still do it. People might not care, but I'd imagine if you're going to meet with someone important that your boss would rather you not have a ring sticking out of your lip.
So... Google isn't a copycat? They're the first to ever create a map service? Maybe they're the first to implement search technology? Perhaps they're the first to implement free webmail? Just out of curiosity, are they the first to have customized portals?
I'm a fan of Google as well, but we need to stop holding them up in a holy light. They're just another company that knows how to make standard things pretty.
I'm sorry, I live in the United States. What exactly is this "voting" thing that you're talking about and does it actually work?
..and what happens when this reaches you in your future country? Running away does not solve the problem so much as it delays it.

Sadly, most people don't care anymore.

If it's a spade, call it a spade.
And if it's copyright infringement, call it copyright infringement.
Only on slashdot can a comment like that one be insightful.
I'll agree with you on everything but one.

Huh? Where are these 'people'? People don't give two craps about anything, let alone where their food has been.
If people really wanted to know what's in their food, chains like McDonalds wouldn't be in business.

I don't know how much this counts as a summer internship, but this past January I did an internship at Lockheed Martin and they ended up hiring me.
I learned a lot and got some great experience. Even if they wouldn't have hired me, it would've been well worth it.
I definately recommend them.
That's utter crap.

My Zaurus has been emulating other game devices for a couple years now. Declaring the PSP the *ultimate* emulation machine is a little far fetched.
It's easy to say 'get some balls' when it's not your job on the line.

Yes it is as far as I remember. Actually, one of my friends was telling me they're writing software to give the car the ability to powerslide.

Yes there is SSH support.
