While the 5600 does have its quirks, I have an 860 and I have no problems with it. Plenty of software is available at http://www.elsix.org/ (actually, I believe we're up to 1800 pieces of software now) if you don't have enough.
You can run your Zaurus like any other PDA, or if you want install http://www.pdaxrom.org/ and you have a full linux setup with Matchbox.
The Zaurus is definately harder to pick up and figure out than the average PDA, but the benefits are well worth it.
If you want a 400 MHz processor and linux, try out one of the Zaurus C Series. My Zaurus C860 has a 400Mhz processor and an integrated keyboard. It also has the screen that swivels to either be a vertical PDA, or a normal horizontal one.
Support is far from extinct. I help run http://www.oesf.org/ and I designed http://www.elsix.org/ . We have plenty of support for these devices right on those sites, including tons of free software.
Check us out; we're always welcoming new people to our little community:)
Now they say apartment, so is that $300,000 a month?
Or is it a $300,000 condo? Cause if it's a $300,000 condo that's pretty cheap considering some of the ones I've seen here in Philly.
Now if it's $300,000 a month, then.. well. I don't really know. Are there really that many people in our world that can afford to buy a $300,000 a month apartment in Brazil and still have money for other stuff?
Yaa, I get that comment a lot. That's why for a bit I was going to change it to some other kind of object until I realized that really, I don't care. It looks neat how it is:)
It was a fun project and I wish I had the time to move on with it. I wanted to start adding support for textures and such, but alas school got in the way.
It was an interesting look into the 3d world. I still use it from time to time just to fly around my file system.
Yes, you are right. Everytime that Google has had problems of censorship beforehand, they have informed the users. That was before they had a Board of Directors and a stock quote though.
We've been hearing rumors about this for a while over at the ZUG. I dont know how much I like it though.
The screen is the same size as my c860 and so is the battery. The only difference are the weird colors (white/silver/chrome???) and the fact that it is bigger. As well, it also has a hard drive that is going to eat the battery.
Sharps biggest selling point is that the device includes some multimedia Japanese dictionary. Rather useless for those of us that dont need it. I think the entire dictionary takes up about 600 megs?
For now I'm very happy with my c860 and the new 2 gig sd cards are keeping me more than ok in the space area.
Anyways, on a different note, I'll take this opportunity to plug http://www.zaurususergroup.com/forums/ for those Zaurus owners that don't know about us:) We're currently building a Zaurus Software Index to help make it easier for people to download the software they need.
Seriously, for all those who sit and trash NASA, how do you think these guys got the information to build the damn thing? N.A.S.A.
How do you think many of the things we use today were pioneered? N.A.S.A.
People sit and trash NASA and complain about their budget. NASA isn't hanging out in 330k feet, they're going to MARS. 15 years ago, when NASA did this, was a bigger budget because they weren't as technically advanced as we are today. They were designing the technology to do what they did. SpaceShipOne is simply CATCHING UP.
It seems as though on/. here, unless someone is doing something great at the moment, the second someone outdoes them they suck. Remember all the great posts we had when NASA landed on Mars? All the people that were talking about how revolutionary NASA was? Now, as soon as someone else figures out how to catch up to NASA using less money, all of a sudden NASA is horrible.
" The quiet room doubles as a music practice area. When your teen decides to learn the drums, shove him in there and it's almost as good as if you'd never had kids in the first place. "
In Pysch class, we were told about these towns in Germany. They were two neighboring towns and both spoke german. The maids/slaves or whatever they were, on the other hand, were from all over the world, so none of them knew how to communicate. After the maids were released, they all met up in one location. Because they all spoke a different language, they tried to make up their own language.
As time went on, they had children in this new town. Childrens brains are adapted more to learning languages, so the children actually solidified this language.
I'm pretty sure that's how the story went. This was Psych class from almost 2 years ago.
Perhaps we should target those responsible. Surely some of these child pornographers are in the States and we have jurisdiction over them.
Ignoring the problem and pretending it's not there is not going to fix it. Banning access to these sites does not remove the porn and help the kids; it simply blocks our access to it and let's the sick bastards keep doing what they do. I'd think most countries would have no problem arresting someone that did this kind of shit.
Apparently you've never used free college internet access.
I went to PSU and eventually transferred to another school, but both of them offered free internet access. At both schools the internet was so slow that it was hard to pull up web pages at times. PSU was better, but at the school I'm at now, the actual classrom buildings and the dorms share the same connection. There are times when it could take up to 5 minutes just to pull up cnn.com.
I live off campus now, but when I did live in the dorms, we still had our own internet rather than the schools. Free is nice, but when you can only use the internet at 2:30 am it's not worth it.

There is plenty of support.

Support doesn't always have to come directly from a company.

prom.. or pr0n?
How did that get modded Insightful? Flash is useless? Are you serious?
I can understand not liking it, but just saying that it's useless is flat out retarded.
Apparently there's this thing called an Apple Lisa. Supposed to be top of the line.
It's bad enough being kicked by a human leg, let alone a robot leg.
Could you imagine the bruises you'd get from playing this robot army?

A while ago I wrote a 3d file browser for Linux. It's available here:
http://www.freshmeat.net/projects/3dfb/
It was a fun project and I wish I had the time to move on with it. I wanted to start adding support for textures and such, but alas school got in the way.

Mine's even weirder. Every other click highlights that entire bottom line.
Perhaps we have a security issue here?

Eee, sorry about that. Thanks for the fix :)

Some other good sites for the Zaurus:
http://www.openzaurus.com
http://www.pdaxrom.com
hahaha
I want to label this +5 funny just for all the "doggy dog" trashing comments.
Saw this site in someone's post yesterday.
http://www.mirrordot.org/
While it might blind you, it does has a cache of the original site and is very handy.

It seems as though on
It's a shame..
PS: Congratulations to the SpaceShipOne Team
This is by far the best chain of replies ever on slashdot.
