Agreed. Once you reach critical mass with a number of plugins, it makes the browser unstable and slow. I'm constantly having to trim down my addons to about 10 just to keep things reasonably functional.
Besides, how the hell would you make money through a browser plugin/extension?
After I bought a PS3 I did quite a bit of reading and the unanimous conclusion was that the XBox360 had superior hardware capabilities, and was also easier to develop for than the PS3.
Pound for pound, the XBox 360 would be the console to get if you wanted to concentrate on gaming. The PS3 has the Blu-ray capability going for it, among other things.
Yeah, the "Mac cult" myth is a very fascinating one. I've never come across any of these so-called "Mac zealots" but according to popular culture they're everywhere.
oooh yeah. The on-the-fly styles thing annoys me as well!
I prefer using iWork Pages on OS X, it's far nicer for most word processing jobs, and the page layout tools are top notch. I only use Word if I have to share the document with Windows users.
Not sure what you're trying to say here. "This crowd" is already (justifiably) chewing Apple out all the time, and they're not even in a monopoly stranglehold of the market.
Very insightfully said. I don't see Apple as a good company, it just happens to be the company that designs products that work the way I expect them to. I know people around here don't like to hear it, but I find Apple products like the Mac and iPhone are seriously far less hassle to use than anything else out there.
Apple has always been like this. It's Steve Jobs' style.
Sometimes it's maddening. But my overall experience with Apple products is still overwhelmingly positive, which is why I keep buying and using them.
Apple doesn't care for "marketshare" as such -- they care about profits. So as long as they get the biggest profits, it doesn't matter what kind of marketshare they have. Indeed, they might have only a small marketshare, which is perfectly fine. That's why Apple refuses to compete at the lower end of the market.
Very insightfully said. If Steve Jobs perceives Apple to be falling behind compared to the competition, then he'll open it up. But no sooner. (happy iPhone and Mac user here as well)
Freedom is all very well and good, and I agree with most of the points you made, but in the end I just want something that works really well with a minimum of fuss. For me, that is an Apple Mac, and various other Apple systems like the iPhone and Apple TV.
It's not irrational to want this kind of secrecy, it makes good business sense. What's the point in giving away your power by letting everyone else know ahead of time what new things you're planning to introduce?
Agreed. This is certain Slashdot readers being completely clueless about social interaction and the role of privacy in modern society.
A "computer illiterate" person who also uses a DSLR and HD video camcorder -- that's pretty unusual!

You're it.
So instead of complaining now, why didn't you submit a Slashdot story back then?

What dumbass modded you Flamebait?

Thanks for pointing out to everyone what a bigot you are. Are you gonna post a rant about the "reverse racism" conspiracy now?

I couldn't care less about the marketing, I just prefer a Mac for when I actually want to get work done, instead of fighting the computer.
I know Apple restricts freedom, but they do it just enough not to piss me off. They stay out of my way.

Wouldn't actual globalisation be the opposite? American laws extending to Australia, so that you wouldn't be able to legally download 1984?

Very well thought out reply to an OP who seems to have brain switched off.

You're spot on.
I think Palm's executives are douchebags, but they're brilliant douchebags.
Palm is complaining that Apple updated their app:

I guess you conveniently left that one out.

I know, I'm supporting an evil corporation etc.
/But it could've been faked with clever video editing! /sarcasm
You, good sir, get -1 for using logic and facts on Slashdot.
If it was Microsoft, it would never have made the front page in the first place. It's cool to bash Apple these days.
Apple gets a free pass... as evidenced by your comment?

Yeah yeah, Apple is evil and all that.
You're nothing but a troll. The App Store has the best and most innovative apps for any smartphone platform bar none.
But yeah, keep frothing at the mouth like the irrational zealot you are. Stick it to Da Man!
