actually, i think in my parent i mentioned not liking mozilla. it is just a bit slow and bloated. however i tried chimera (i guess it's based on mozilla) and I have been pleasently suprised. suprised enough in fact to remove ie from the dock and replace it with chimera. now i do notice a few bugs like flash being off center (it seems as if the flash content is about 100 pixels lower than it should be) but i am about to fire off a bug report about that one.
But i am happy to say that it does well at blocking popups, and since i don't care about blocking banners...
by the way, currently only antiadbuster is installed in my forums on that site. the main page should always work.
that is not at all why circuit city's divx died. people did not want disposable dvds. they wanted to own them. Most people truly don't give a shit about giving that info out. sure, if it asked for a social security number i imagine most regular people would get a little paranoid, but the people that divx was in the market for don't give a rats ass about the information, and they probably don't even realize that information was being collected in the first place. to them, the phoning home was all the salesman said it is, validating the disc.
the reason people didn't like divx was because it was just too expensive for what it was. a player for disposable movies. people were confused, are these dvds? does it play dvds? does my existing dvd player play divx movies?
the general public does not realize that the "phone home" thing uses caller id, then does a reverse lookup on the phone number and sells your name and address to a mailing list. they just didn't buy it because it was too confusing.
ok, i just did download omniweb. first page i loaded up (my own) didn't render correctly, the css text rollovers didn't work, and images were stretched to strange purportions such as the smilies in the forums. and my page does not use any ie specific stuff. I developed it for browser compatibility. it looks fine in every browser i have ever tried it in (links and lynx don't count) except omniweb. I have heard people rave on and on about this, but I am unconvinced.
As I said before, does anyone know any other popup killers that run in OS X?
unfortunately, I host my max payne site with a gaming network called TGnetwk. While they are a good network, and one of the only ones out there that is actually making a little money, most of it is due to popup ads. they stuck a popup ad on my homepage only (actually a pop-under). they used to have ads on all of my pages, but since my site is the biggest traffic generator for his network, they would rather have me stay on with few popups, and a banner on every page, than for me to go on to another network on my own.
He recently enabled AntiAdBlocker. I don't run any banner ad blocking myself, instead i just icgnore the ad, and on my mac i don't really use popup blocking software that works well with IE (i don't like mozilla)... anybody know of any decent popup blocking for ie on mac os x?
on my PC however i do use a popup blocker. it leaves much to be desired, mozilla's popup blocking was perfect. i wish something like that could arrive as a plugin or something for mac ie.
Anyway, i have never run into a problem with antiadblocker on my own site. The popup blocking i am using on my windows machine is called "Pow!", and it basically works by checking the url of the window, and the window title. if the 2 match a known popup it closes it. if they don't match, then you have the opportunity to ad that to your list, so at most you see every popup once, but never again. it is pesky to add them the first time, but it seems that most sites are running the same popups, so after about 2 weeks you never see them anymore. Now popup blocking like this is basically undetectable, because as far as the web site knows, you just clicked the window closed really fast. And AntiAdBlocker did not detect this popup killer.
Since I am forced to either pay for my own hosting (too expensive for a site of that size) or use the AntiAdBlocker, I choose antiAdBlocker. however i do let everyone on the site know that Pow! is out there, and really does work. now i wish i could just find one for mac!
Linus wants hammer to get popular so intel gets off thier asses. he was not talking about widespread adoption of hammer within the linux kernal. he was talking about hammer paving the way for other 64 but processors.
same here in sweden. they showed it at 11:30 PM Mondays on TV4
Then they moved it to Mondays at 4:30 in the afternoon. Suddenly it took off! It got pretty popular at that time slot. Now it is on hiatus because they shoed the whole first season. It should be back in a couple months with season 2 (in sweden during the off season they don't show reruns. they just have a different show on. usually there are 2 tv seasons every year the fall-winter and spring-summer seasons, each season with thier own shows)
One bad thing about tv in sweden is that they always move the shows around. Star trek voyager is usually on at 10:30 PM sundays, but sometimes it starts at 11:00, or sometimes at 10:25, or even worse, it starts at 10:00, so when i turn it on at the normal 10:30, i have already missed most of it (it's only a 45 minute show because the channel it is on here in sweden does not have commercials)
Anyway, here in sweden anyway they are selling Region 2 DVDs of Season 1 of Futurama, and since the commercials for that DVD are on alot, I imagine it is selling pretty well. on the screen is the TV4 logo, so i think it is sponsored by TV4.
If the new episodes are going to be shown on cartoon network, I hope TV4 will grab those too, since cartoon network in sweden is all dubbed instead of subtitled:(
IE which IS part of Windows
My solaris and mac versions of IE beg to differ with you there, buddy. The windows version is integrated into windows, however the versions on other platforms are simply regular applications (unless they are loading a windows implementation in the background just to run correctly)
it is not the work or the content of the notebook that is noteworthy here. it is the whole concept of what they are doing. It's something all of us have done in the past. also notice the topic it is under? it's not under the "take this seriously or die" topic, now is it?
it said "me and my friend used to... in his room..."
he is talking about his fucking childhood you dumb ape. read the fucking comment before commenting yourself
the way windows update works right now is that it sends your computer a list of available updates, then compares the list of available updates to a list of updates you already have installed. it then sends back to the WU server the updates you currently do not have.
It seems that instead of doing it this way, they have modified windows update (or at least the automatic updates function) to operate the opposite way, to let them scan your computer for what updates it doesn't have, instead of scanning a list of updates it already has. You still need to make the connection of course (manually or using automatic updating) .
Of course them having this kind of access gives them access to many other things. But what i am illustrated above is how MS is going to claim that this is a Good Thing.
New 10.2 won't support "old" graphics cards made six months ago. Yes it will. it just does not enable the "quartz extreme" feature and it falls back on the default quartz
No SCSI support. There is SCSI support, just install a SCSI card. the machines do not come default with SCSI but if you install your own card it works fine.
macslash.org lost their domain because of Apple Not true. they lost thier domain because some squatter got ahold of it when they forgot to renew it
don't know if this was a joke or not... but anyway, the device used for changing the number is a cable that goes from the bottom of the phone to a computer's serial port (or it can be done through straight IR if your computer and phone both have IR ports)
The cable itself has many legitimate purposes, unlike changing the number which has none.
using a cloned phone is most likely against your service agreement, so still... no legitimate purpose. besides you would clone it by duplicating the data on your sim card, not the phone's serial number, that this bill is applied to

how are you going to get this nomad to play the new file format?

if you launch a paper plane from mir it is not going to fily very far at all. ocean water will destroy the paper.
I ended up getting the 3 CDs for $37 (that's with S&H)

apparently they simply inform the DoJ that they are going to do it, and if they don't hear a "no" within 7 days, they go for it.
If these trends continue... EH!

tech support, upper management, advertising, whores... ok maybe not whores
because "point one" looks smaller than "point ten" at first glance
to resell factory refurbished phones maybe?
