It's just one in a very long list of failures of Sony in the US, along with... MD...
Sony just can't seem to figure out what makes us Americans buy stuff
How american of you. MD is wildly popular in europe, and there are just as many europeans as americans, if not more. 80 million alone in germany. Almost everyone I know has an MD player in thier stereo, and another portable.
Americans are not the only people in the world that buy consumer electronics outside of Japan.
the people that siezed thier computers are not the ones that are supposed to dole out the punishment. they simply investigate (federal beurau of investigation). The courts are the people who punish them. the permanent seisure of the computer is wrong. If the judge later says that the seizure of the computers should be part of the punishment so be it. But the fbi is not in the kind of power to dole out punishment, and if they do so, it is wrong.
Your orginal post, which raised my question, hailed the benefits of not moving the mouse pointer.
partially correct. his post stated that he did not like the idea of moving the mouse pointer off of the selected object. while he does not mind moving the mouse pointer there, once it is selected he does not want to move it again, presumably so he knows which object he is working with (i don't really know or care, but if that is the case, isn't that what the focus is for?)
sigma actually initially admitted to having thier code in there, and stated they would be removing it with the new 1.1 version.
the 1.1 version is still based on the same codebase apparantly. now i do not know assembly, however it looks pretty similar to not only the xvid code, but the old 1.0 code that they supposedly were going to remove.
optimizers can't be THAT accurate to create almost identical code.
adobe premiere/after effects and discreet's editdv are available for windows, as well as professional tools like shake. i am a mac os x user myself, but there is good video editing stuff for windows too.
i am not afraid of/etc, i just don't want to waste all my time there when i could be doing osmething more useful like responding to trolls on slashdot.
1.3gb is less than the 1.8gb workstation install of mandrake 8.2
I go from power-on, to login prompt in about 30 seconds using OS X 10.2.
Chimera Navigator (what name are they gonna use?) 0.4 starts up in about 5 seconds for me.
my machine is very modest. it's the lowest end machine that apple currently sells, the ibook 600 cdrom machine.
why not get the details correct if you are going to troll?
thato nly changes the displayed resolution, not the actual desktop resolution. try switching tesolution and then moving your mouse beyond the bottom or the right side.
This is not intuitive. This is a mess. Sure, it may be useful for a select few, but really, it's confusing or annoying for anyone else.
Now i remember the first linux i succesfully installed was caldera and they actually did go a long way to promote usability. the version i used was very old, i think it was 2.x, however it had a gui for changing the resolution, and it actually did work. i think it had to restart the x server to do it though. a bit strange, but...
actually i didn't know that, but really, ms outlook has had all of these features for many years. the phone is coming now.
with apple, these features could mean alot of things. why does it mean that a phone is coming? it could just mean thier os is trying to be better at keeping people in touch via email
besides, the article paints the picture that OS X is being ported to a phone. Riiiiiiiight
Of the 12 new OS X features the company has been emphasizing on its Web site, most would be desirable for a hand-held phone, including chat capabilities, mail, an address book, calendar features, automatic networking and a synchronization feature that will become available in September.
Um, as far as I know, most computers come with address books, chat capabilities, calendar features, automatic networking and synchrinization features. Does that mean MS is coming out with a portable phone just because outlook has all these features? This guy is TOTALLY grasping at straws here. iPhone my ass.
there is tons of spam in the alt.fan and alt.music. groups. right now, i think there is sommeone going around into every alt.music group posting links to his mp3.com page saying he has a connection with the music. the same guy posted in depeche mode, nine inch nails, and ministry. curious, i went and looked in a kenny g group, and sure enough, this guy has a "kenny g" connection as well. when you actually visit his mp3.com page the genre is stated as "folk rock".
then there are all of the "enlarge your penis", "kill all the niggers", "make money at home"...
i have also been using ichat. and it sucks. since it is aim only and most of my contacts use icq/msn i use fire. fire isn't all that great either, but I am not stuck using only aim, so...
the issue here is not "who should be blocked" the issue is "no one should be blocked"
censorship of RIAA's online material is ok? It's not censorship, just an intentional routing glitch? Ok, if that is not censorship, why IS it censorship when the RIAA tries to block access to other sites then.
The best way to take a stand against the RIAA is to make yourself heard. Tell a norman non-techie about this. you may have to explain the concept of a backbone and the RIAA, but tell them the implications, and that this is exactly what they are after (control of what you listen to, buy, and download)
I just told my father in law about this, and he is VERY non techie. He was visibly angry that some guy in a california office building could someday threatan an ISP to block access to any site in the world, just because they allegedly have some copyrighted stuff up there, even if the whole world does not obey the same copyright laws. He has no had it pounded in his head time and time again like we have here, but he still understands
The best way to get people to fight back against the RIAA is not to block them in your routing tabloes, that's just childish. The best way is to tell your non-techie friends who probably don't know that the RIAA exists, and who probably assume that the artist gets the bulk of the money made from the "copyrighted material" that the RIAA "protects"
i have never been in the subways in new york, but the subways here in stockholm are one way. there is only 1 track in the tunnel. the track going the other direction is in a tunnel right next to it, but not the same tunnel, so they would only have ads going thier direction, and we would only have them going ours.
this is beside the point anyway, since i have not seen the ads here, however, if the new york subway sistem is the same way i would imagine that you would never see a backwards ad.
and you realize it is EACH INDIVIDUAL FINGER that looks blocky. when in another game have you had the opportunity to complain about blocky fingers? usually it's just 1 thumb, a trigger finger, and a big block for the rest of the fingers.

did i get first post?
no, but perhaps someday you can go back in time and get it.

i would have to say [insert whatever name of the state i am currently in here] because then i would not have to deal with the IRS anymore.

it's available as a free (beer) download from thier website.
great! i was rebutting the previous poster's 5-minute boot time theory
you condemn a company because they released a (succesful) series of colorful cases?
i could easily install all the necessary stuff.
easily for you, or easily for the average user?

why? the people buying britney spears cd's don't give a damn

interface builder. you use that with applescript studio to create gui applicatio9ns with applescript
purchase the software != buy software
is your 3rd party client passing the ads that AIM displays? AOL has a good reason for not wanting users to use 3rd party clients!
i mean it is a sucky reason, but a reason nonetheless.

pixel-shadered
is that like when the football gets kickered down the field?
