I didn't see anything in the FAQ's about this; is it possible to install other software on the ramdisk?

My opinion is that having NVIDIA work with kernel developers to come up with fully open-source, GPL licensed Linux drivers for their hardware would be better than ever releasing a single binary-only driver.

And, as has been said many times before, NVidia doesn't own all the code in their drivers. Some of that is licensed. As a result, they are not allowed to change the licensing to GPL-only. To do that, they'd have to strip out much of the functionality that makes the card useful.

It's certainly not about standards compliance (Slashdot generating incompliant HTML 3.2 code anyone?) And, it's not about supporting patent encumbered file formats (GIF instead of PNG, multiple articles on MP3 players)

Two of my three credit cards have contracts with them that state I am not at all responsible for fradulant charges, nor do they charge extra for this.

True, they don't charge you for this, now. However, if they start getting a hundred fold increase in fraudulent charge claims, what do you think they'll do?

    1. Spend time, money, effort, etc. tracking down the originator of the fraud.
    2. Eat the charges themselves
    3. Increase your service charges, interest rates, or fraudulent charge fees

I'm afraid that, like most other things, they'll punish those who they find easiest to punish, in this case, their own customers.
