    I helped my brother get a new laptop a few weeks ago and outside of the shitstorm that is bundled software, it's fine. I had some trouble with the nonexistant vista Nvidia drivers but after about an hour of poking around and some helpful forums, everything's fine. It's kind of weird that someone would sell a machine with vista equipped with a video card that didn't have "real" drivers for vista, but I guess I wasn't surprised by it.
    He's extremely happy with the machine and with vista.

    The way to check is that you say "say, what's your opinion on packaging systems?". If they growl and try rip your throat out, use the silver bullets. If they start to tell their grand view of how packaging should work, use regular ammo.


    I figured it was a myth that you needed silver bullets to kill werewolves.

    Humans are clock oriented because society is clock oriented.
    It's popularly difficult to interact, consume, create, foo unless you've got little deadlines controlling your movement. I blame grade school bells.

    While not general-purpose, Max/MSP is drag and drop and it's still mostly in the hands of geeks. I'd wonder how many not-geeky musicians that are required to look at it in/through college ever pick it up after graduation?
    I think it's a difference of expectation, the masses just want to pop a disc in and have something happen. They don't want to wrench on stuff.

    Are you going to jump on some DSL lovin? Crap, no service in the area.
    Satilite? Possibly no coverage in the area and 500-1500ms ping is rather high.

    I really doubt they're worried about it. In many (most?) markets there's simply nothing to emigrate to.

    Well, are we buying a physical media or a license to listen to a recording?
    If we are really buying a license, then why can't I get a replacement for damaged or outdated media for a small fee?
    If we are really buying physical media, why did they (and do they) go insane wrt backing up our media? (see DAT, Sony rootkit)
    They can't have it both ways.

    Remember everything is a compromise. Ultrazooms tend to chromatic aberrations, softness, geometric distortion and slowness compared to primes and shortzooms. If you're careful it's not so bad. I've used Fuji S5000/5200 with success.
