I helped my brother get a new laptop a few weeks ago and outside of the shitstorm that is bundled software, it's fine. I had some trouble with the nonexistant vista Nvidia drivers but after about an hour of poking around and some helpful forums, everything's fine. It's kind of weird that someone would sell a machine with vista equipped with a video card that didn't have "real" drivers for vista, but I guess I wasn't surprised by it. He's extremely happy with the machine and with vista.
The way to check is that you say "say, what's your opinion on packaging systems?". If they growl and try rip your throat out, use the silver bullets. If they start to tell their grand view of how packaging should work, use regular ammo.
I figured it was a myth that you needed silver bullets to kill werewolves.
Humans are clock oriented because society is clock oriented. It's popularly difficult to interact, consume, create, foo unless you've got little deadlines controlling your movement. I blame grade school bells.
While not general-purpose, Max/MSP is drag and drop and it's still mostly in the hands of geeks. I'd wonder how many not-geeky musicians that are required to look at it in/through college ever pick it up after graduation? I think it's a difference of expectation, the masses just want to pop a disc in and have something happen. They don't want to wrench on stuff.
...when too big of a change may trigger a mass exodus.
Are you going to go to the "other" cable company? Oh wait, natural monopoly, there isn't one. Are you going to jump on some DSL lovin? Crap, no service in the area. Satilite? Possibly no coverage in the area and 500-1500ms ping is rather high.
I really doubt they're worried about it. In many (most?) markets there's simply nothing to emigrate to.
How's programming them though? Not everyone on slashdot is a code slinger. The closest I've come to playing with a modern ucontroller is seeing a project in nuts and volts and going; fuck, I dunno if I could do that.
Well, are we buying a physical media or a license to listen to a recording? If we are really buying a license, then why can't I get a replacement for damaged or outdated media for a small fee? If we are really buying physical media, why did they (and do they) go insane wrt backing up our media? (see DAT, Sony rootkit) They can't have it both ways.
Remember everything is a compromise. Ultrazooms tend to chromatic aberrations, softness, geometric distortion and slowness compared to primes and shortzooms. If you're careful it's not so bad. I've used Fuji S5000/5200 with success.

I thought he meant Michael Jackson!
"jcr" must have hired some viral marketing firm to spam copy pasta. :P
Hey man, you should check out Eve. There's this great autopilot that helps you get to other places! It's really one of the bezzzzzZZZZZZZZ

Be prepared to spend MO money.
Unfortunate that his career has been dead for a decade+

I'm still running 1.5.0.9 and it works a treat. Am I missing something besides, apparently, h4x?

Slashdot. No, that's unfair.
Internet. hmm, that's not quite right, either.

I thought this concept died in the US along with the HP200LX.

555s are cheap as chips, though
Too bad that they've stopped making games. :/
Everything they release is basically a techdemo for their new engine.
Might as well get them prepared for it.
