Gotta love slashdot. This is not an insightful post and is so obviously someone's self moderation of their personal statement that they blindly read off the MS party line. Makes me want to barf. So what is the record for most slashdot accounts that one person has?
Here is a clue for you. They can take a piece of Open Source software(GPL,BSD,APL,whathaveyou), modify it for there use and not have to disclose the source code of their changes.
One of "The Bobs" : It seems this employee(looks down at list), Milton? Yeah it seems there was a glitch in the payroll system. He was let go during the last cutback and it appears none ever told him, but because of the glitch he continued to recieve a paycheck.
Your 2 points are a little off base. Please read the GPL and try to understand that it does not lock any developers into any license unless they directly use GPL code in there program or link to it in a specific way. What it does is keep people who would like to take someone else's work, relabel or steal chunks of code and profit from it. Perhaps that is what you have a problem not being able to do? Also, I don't believe they actually excluded BSD or similar licensed software in their letter. In addition, please reread the part were they specifically state that they do not feel that any course should be branded to a specific vendor. I think that you may be a MS troll. If indeed you are a MS troll then I think you should in honesty preface such posts with a statement that you are a MS astroturfer. But of course we know that MS astroturfers are not honest.

Are you for real? Or do you just troll here on/. to post your Website link in your.sig? You realize that geeks at all levels of ability laugh at you every time you post garbage like this? And you have posted this same line multiple times btw.
Programmers of code for sale are a small part of the programming workforce. They are going to become the buggy whip manufacturers of our day. And that is just to darned bad. Some programmers for hire are also going to get hit, oh well.
Your confused again Dan. Microsoft is a corporation that has 95% of the Desktop PC OS market. This gives them "Monopoly like" powers over that market and several adjoining markets. They have been convicted of abusing those powers contrary to established laws in the USA. . They recieved a minor slap on the wrist as a result, and will probably continue to try and do "what it is they do". All of which will mean absolutely didily squat in the long run as OSS/FS continues on with it's global spread. Nothing will change the facts of this matter.
Wow, was that dificult for you to copy out of the MS manual? Cause it looked difficult. You say you have used linux and wrote some apps yet you claim that X-Window can crash the whole system? Also, there is only one linux. There are many different distrobutions based on that linux kernel. Consistent as compared to what? Windows? Your kidding right? You do know that computer vendors don't directly suppport an OS in general as a practice unless you pay them $$$ for a support contract or per incident right?
No both were vandalism, one was just from a less evil company, spreading a less evil message:) Which one is which of course depends on your point of view.
A significant portion of the drives that they all sell end up in grey market anyway, where the warranty is 1 year at max. Big OEM's will still be able to get up to 3 years warranty probably anyway. Besides which a 3 year warranty may look good to the end user but it has very little effect one way or the other on the soft money that actually drives the industry.
EULA wording is still MS saying "All your code are belong to us" and SF terms are not similar at all. Go read them again or just plain stop FUD'ing.
To Slashdot Moderator's: Please stay off the crack!!! Hopefully someone will Meta-mod this to where it belongs, back at 1
Microsoft has had what is essentially Software Assurance(SA) availible for many years. It is called subscription based licensing. Also, I'm sure if you would like to see all the nitty gritty details you may be able to buy a copy of the entire study.
I also read the press release and it did not claim anywhere that they had a Strategic Partnership Agreement with AOL. They did however use the word "Pact" to describe their license agreement with AOL. Which of course was stretched out of context by several self serving online news outlets.
I looked at the article again. There was no credible quote from Lindows saying they had any kind of agreement with AOL. This was entirely a PR spin from M$nbc timed for the anti-trust remedy.
Your analogy sucks because there are people that could repair the FM tuner, such information is not proprietary and you can get parts. Sames applies for the car.
And for sure if that same supply company, convicted several times for various monopoly abuses and for selling 2nd rate lumber as grade 1, selling defective nails etc. You would find a different supplier for ethical and moral reason's right?
There was an exhibit recently at the college were the local lug meets. It had a bunch of patent prototype model copies with information about each one. Strange not a single software patent was displayed there.
Microsoft provides jobs for about 35000 directly. They are directly responsible for the stagnation of an entire industry and therefor directly responsible for the resulting lack of jobs in that industry. Their removal or severe restriction in the industry would do a lot to repair the damage they have done.
2. The old, "but think of the children!!!" argument. Bzzzt more opinion and MS Rhetoric.
3. The "Truth of the matter"? Hehhehe thats rich. The truth of the matter has been clearly documented in court. Got anything else MS troll?

Lumberg: So you fired him?
The other "Bob": No, we "Fixed the Glitch"

What MS ad? I haven't seen an ad in over a month. It was right after I installed Moz.... ohh.
Only problem is Operating system support is a pay as you go option past a certain narrow time-frame from date of purchase from any oem.

Mozilla 1.0 right click on ad, select block images from this server, and of course always have pop-ups blocked. Life is bliss ;)
