It conforms very closely to the Linux Standards Base. We can currently purchase support for it from many of the top IT services companies. Because Linux can't be decommoditized, bought out, or otherwise stifled by any proprietary software vendors it will continue as a top tier enterprise platform for decades to come. Because of it's longevity companies will continue to support it for decades to come.

    Numbers or links to back up your claim? Wndows is as big as it is because of anti-competitive deals with oems, and anti-competitive, monopolistic business practices of the convicted monopoly known as Mickey$oft, M$, Micro$hit, Microsloth, Monopoly$oft, etc etc.....

    You really should not post about things you do not know. There is no server implementation of XP. Which is a good thing consisdering the glaring, gaping, tractor trailer sized sescurity hole that are likely still lurking in the code.

    Ok. To make your analogy apples for apples how about MS releases the source, ala their "shared source", to any OS they are not going to support anymore so people can fix any residual bugs that are still left themselves. Besides which MS does not really provide support for their OS's anyways! Any support one gets is very limited in time frame and then it's pay pay pay. Oh, BTW! get your facts straight, who cloned who?

    If this is true this is very bad for a lot of places that are being told by Dell that they can no longer get PC's with NT loaded and the only license that is backward compatible to be able to run NT or 2000 is an XP license. Therefor the machine would come with xp and as soon as they try to load NT or 2000, or get support for it they will realize they have been screwed by MS & Dell. This is sure to blow up in Dells face. However, maybe this does not apply to dells premier customers?

    the analogy in your observation will be relevant the moment Pantone license's it's "US government granted monopoly on a basic mathmatical principle" (read:Software Patent) to something that run's on linux.

    The majority of items in those stores that you are probably referring to are brand name electronics and appliances. Many of them are purchased by large chains directly from the manufacturer and the store is required to follow MAP ( minimum asking price). So they must differentiate themselves in other ways, and there is fierce competition.

    Head Start is a federal umbrella program, that is a framework of guidelines, policies, procedures, and programs. Like any other Non-profit an individual local program can be bankrupted. If your mom really works for head start maybe you should talk to her about it so you know what the heck your talking about!

    There are several email filtering programs out there that when coupled with a good network-wide virus program are pretty effective at keep all the microsoft centric virus out.

    Exactly!! Because if they had knowledge of ecenomics they would know that what is best in the long term for the computer industy in the US is for Microsoft's corporate charter to be yanked and it's top ranks to serve jail time and have some of their ill gotten gains taken away!!

    I hope you don't mean that $19,200 is enough for 2 years contract on an AS400? Kind of depends on the contract. If I was to guess i would say the contract they where talking about was 6 figures.
