I seemed to have missed the part in his response were he said "Xiph.org has not applied for nor has any patents that it intends to use later for commercial gain". Can anyone provide a link to any reference to them saying that if they did have any patents or pat. pending related to Ogg that they would provide them on a royalty free basis to the OSS/FS community?
What? are you upset that there are two sides to every story? Not just the One Microsoft Way(tm). Quick factual question for you. Which side of this particular story has recently been convicted of abusing a monoploy in the desktop pc OS market?
And what choice has any large company purchasing from a major manufacturer had for (can't tell its a trade secret)years? They may have a little more choice these days, but that was not by Microsoft's choosing and that would make it back the ways it was if they could And if you think MS Office (the real monopoly anchor point) got where it is because it was better than WordPerfect? Then I have a bridge and a huge software company headquarted in Redmond, WA I would like to sell you. Oh, and you might want to lay off whatever your smoking too.

Let's see here, things to do with a teacher that doesn't know how to use a gui menu on a computer....
Think about any old shopping mall in your area run by a piss poor corporation and you will quickly realize the roads would probably be worse, and still toll roads.
You are absolutely right. And a public school systems "shareholders" are the taxpayers. The school systems have a very real obligation to tell MS to go F**k themselves, and begin implementing OSS immediately.
What IT rock have you been living under? MS has developed a MONOPOLY in G** D***ED F*****NG PC DESKTOP OS MARKET!!!! ahh, ok I feel better now. And they did it with dirty tricks, lies, and illegal monopolistic tactics. The only corporations that know to fear MS are the ones trying to compete with them, and the ones lying broken and bleeding, or dead from Microsoft's illegal monopolistic practices. If MS was smart they would hear that steamroller headed for them and do something right for a change. But I guess that most of the people in charge at MS are dumb that way, kind of like their apologists
Schools pay top dollar for books, desks, etc. What right do they have to restrict crack dealers from selling on their property. These crack dealers are willing to give away some of their product for free or just pennies...
And what gives you or anyone else the right to profit off of MY tax dollar? GPL'ed code is certainly usable by other than Developers. Any developer that needs to spunge off of GPL'ed code to make a living is a pretty sorry excuse for a developer.
I little bit off the mark there. What actually happens is the PHB's and PHB wannabees inside the computer department are the one's guiding how the network is designed and run. With the results varying depending on how good these space filling units actually are.
Wrong!! Companies can benifit greatly from it. Software companies of the parasitic type can't leech off of it or do a MS oldschool embrace and extend to it. It's a very important distinction.
And it goes without saying that as a "non-profit" that helps other "non-profits" you inform them that there are other choices out there for them that will not cause them extra financial burden in increased licensing fees and time spent to keep track of licenses? Right?
I will start from the bottom up if you don't mind. Actually, "effectively bottomless" would probably not be accurate when describing MS finances. Their books are pretty cooked, plus they can't seem to get it up ( stock price;)). Moving on, I don't seem to recall tabbed browsing in IE first, a true multiuser environment, one platform from embedded to Mainframe ( where MS does not even exist BTW), lack of worms/viri, virtual desktops. Microsoft's problem is that it is not really making any real progress, unless of course you consider being awarded a patent for a DRM OS progress? As for innovation, lets see, directory services? Nope MS was not first. How about there ongoing attempt to have a database in the file system? Bizzzzt wrong again. Backup software?: purchased. NT? hack of OS/2. Browser? hehe um spyglass ring a bell? NTFS? == HPFS. XP's desktop theme? who's ripping off who there? Puuulease!!! I'm sorry this is degenerating into a flame, and you said you didn't want that so I'll stop now. Thanks for trolling, have a good day, Buh Bye
Um nope try again. They were convicted of abusing there monopoly in the DESKTOP PC OS MARKET!!!!! Here, let me say that again for your so you understand. DESKTOP PC OS MARKET!!!. Got it???
Yeah, let's be honest. If you are getting paid the way that the RIAA/MPAA (and let's not confuse them with the artists shall we)are geting paid. Then you are a piece of trash that would not even be worth the convert wheel weight.
You are absolutely right! MS is completely superior on the desktop. I can just imagine how cool it would be to use a nice brandspanking new Holographic NT/2000 Server, or full retail XP CD as a coaster.
Simple test: Are you, or have you ever been, a company convicted of abusing it's monopoly position in the desktop PC OS market? No, GREAAATTT! you can do what ever the F you want. MS however has screwed the pooch. End of story, game over.

grandma is not supposed to be installing her operating system on her pc. Her OEM or her techie grandson are.
/me carefully removes intact foot from mouth and wipes the saliva off of it after reading some of the articles closer. :)

Wow!! let me hazard a guess that your not an economist, or possibly even a college graduate.
You are a MS Troll. You smell like Billyboy Gates Bunghole. :)
Kernel == Kernel. Kernel != OS. mkaaaayyy?
