  1. No they did not "sense" it on Study Points to Sixth Sense in Humans · · Score: 1

The tribes men did not "sense" the disaster. Their elders had told them that when the water recedes quickly, they must run to the mountains. No sixth sense there.

  2. Re:Well... on Why is Java Considered Un-Cool? · · Score: 1

You may think it is the best bit torrent client, and I agree it has pretty bells and whistles, but when it comes down to it, it is a HUGE memory hog, because it is written in Java.

Java is a great language to teach code monkeys, because most people need tons of cheap software to be churned out for various purposouses. How many many people use photoshop or gimp? Most people use some stupid program which comes packaged with their digital camera, and don't care if it is slow or not, because they have not enough experience to know what slow and fast is. The computer world is not just for linux geeks. Java is not cool because it is great for many crappy applications like that, and those applications just aren't considered cool. I myself dont want to program for aunt tilly.

Java might have many other applications, but chances are as a Java programmer you will be a code monkey.

  3. Wow on A Tale in the Desert · · Score: 1

I downloaded this game in the morning when you could still play on the main server, and boy what a boring game. They are planning to make you pay for it and believe me idd rather pay to be flogged by a horde of rampaging monkeys. I spent 4 hours walking around, I picked up some mud and some slate. They climax was when I dropped some grass and it turned to straw.

I hope these poor guys find work. This doesnt seem like a bad idea though. If they manage to put together something decent, Im sure some companies will hire them.

  5. Hmm this really isnt new on Spammer Gets Spam Mailed · · Score: 2, Funny

Sending mail back to spammers really isnt new, I dont see why it hasnt become mainstreme. I get about 10-20 spam e-mails every day and I just reply to them. If you consider it, lets say a spammer sends out 1000 e-mail messages from his hotmail account. Now lets assume each one of these is 3k, if everyone replies to his e-mails and sends his own message back hotmail will shut down the account! There is no need to sign them up for anything special, just reply to their e-mails! So what if some of the are automated. I was getting spam from a company over a period of a year and kept replying to it every day. It turned out that there was a bot doining the mailing so my messages were never deleted, they just sat there. After 9 months I got an e-mail from them telling me to stop imediatly because their web-account had run out of space and their server suspended their account. Other people must have been doing this as well, or maybe my e-mails just built up over time. My point is this, always reply to ur spam mail, 3 or 4 times.

  6. Re:Are you stupid or just evil? on Mandrake News · · Score: 1

Mandrake is not my favorite distro, but it is what I started on. It makes me so mad when poeple knock Mandrake, without ever trying it. If it wasn't for an old copy of Mandrake I'dd still be using Windows. When my dad descided to learn how to use Linux, I ordered him Mandrake! I hope they to churn a profit.

  8. Effectiveness of Ads on IAB Recommends Larger Web Advertising · · Score: 1

Personally, when ads are anoying the first thing on my mind is closing them. I generally dont bother even looking at what they are selling. The only effective ads ar ethe quiet ones, like the banners on slashdot or the crucial ram on gentoo. The only times I've ever clicked on banners or any ads has been on /. and gentoo, so this would be just another annoyance for me to get around. If I can disable it, I will even sacrifice some browser capabilities to disable it. Don't try to force ads on me! It wont work! What happened to the good old days when the internet was only nerds and mathematicians?

Artists need to pay their bills, but what if you want to find strange and obscure music? I wanted to get a hold of some Russian Music from 1913 for my grandmother and you know what, it wasnt in the store but it was online. Now that napster is down its almost impossible to find obscure foreign music which can not be purchased anywhere for a reasonable price, but piracy is still going on... hmmm this worked great!

If you notice, there aren't too many companies who use KDE. Atleast, to my knowledge most use GNOME simply because its GPL and Qt has its own weird liscence. Companies have to be able to use GPLed stuff because GPL means its open to everyone!

  11. Re:Pre-Emptive Multitasking on What MorphOS Is All About · · Score: 1

You pointed out an interesting thing. This isnt an exclusive list of OSes but look, there are 3 BSDs, 2 different linuxes, and several proprietery OSes. Go to distrowatch you will find a huge number of linux distros, most of which are not very good. Maybe people should stop making pointless distros or pointless software and work together to help speed up development? Look at happypenguin, some games there really have potential... If only some people would help them...
