Actually, IIRC, the Church decreed that the Earth was flat, and also that it was the center of everything... Remember the bit about all the planets and the sun revolving around the Earth? I'll put my faith in a thinking man over a preaching man any day. Of course, if God wanted to talk to me personally, I'd probably listen to his case as well. ;-)

  7. Re:Wait, wait, wait... on Small Webcasters Sue RIAA · · Score: 1

Judging from the fact that 100% stations that play 100% non-RIAA labeled songs still pay the royalties, I'd suggest extinction is EXACTLY what the RIAA has in mind. They want to control distribution channels, and independent, unaffiliated music is outside their control. In order to stop it from taking hold, they need to limit exposure to it, and killing the netcasters is the most effective path for that.

  8. Re:Excuse me for asking, but on Small Webcasters Sue RIAA · · Score: 1

Bullcrap, since the RIAA still collects royalties from webcasters who play nothing but independent music.

You honestly think a sales tax will tax the wealthy? You can only spend so much, friend. That means the other 90% of what the very rich make is tax free, since they just bank it.

Now, on the other hand, a flat tax with no exemptions or deductions would be a much nicer system...

Actually, I make the same argument about the drug trade funding terrorism. If the US government would repeal their silly and archaic anti-drug laws, the people turning a profit would be Wal Mart, Meijer, and your local drug store. In the drug war, they create their own problems.

Now look at the IP laws funding terrorism. If the consumer had more rights, underground copies would not be so popular. Once again, silly and archaic IP laws are causing the problem.

Incorrect. The rules vary from state to state.

In Indiana, you do not need to license or register a moped, and you only need to be 15 years of age. In fact, the most common person on a moped is a "DUI guy" who has lost his license and is zooming home from the liquor store with a case of Bud strapped to the back of his moped.

I've seen it firsthand, with my own eyes, where a very anti-capital punishment family pulled a 180 when it was their daughter who was murdered. You can say whatever you like about your philosophy in that event. Me, I'm going to skip it and admit up front that I'd want to see the murderer killed in the same exact fashion, no matter how gruesome. Revenge won't bring the dead back to life, but I'm going to guess that it would certainly help me to move on, that it would bring closure. Maybe I'm petty, maybe I'm an animal. I'm pretty sure I'm just human.

As far as the whole notion of "justice", I'm too much a student of Heinlen to buy into such an artificial concept. There is no such thing, and our legal system fails miserably when it attempts to be "just" instead of worrying about tangibles like damage and harm.
