TFA makes it sound like this affects 100% of users, but it doesn't seem to affect me.
Just tried plugging my kindle voyage into my windows 10 laptop running the anniversary update. Worked as normal, no bluescreen here.
I don't understand why everyone says to use VPNs when most decent database servers offer encrypted connections already.
One assumes there are cases where you may not be able to configure the application utilising the database to use such an encrypted connection. The application may be closed source, or its configuration may not be under your control. In such cases, a VPN is viable alternative.
Yes - a zero day exploit implies there is no patch yet available. Also, there have been security vulnerabilities in VMs that allow you to affect the host in the past, which means it is also possible in the future.
At the least, you should have very restricted access to the internal network for the host the VM resides on, preferably limited to specific IPs and ports.
Its for situations like these that a few years ago I wrote pagefetch [sourceforge.net], a perl script that would retrieve an html page with its associated images, tar and gzip them all up, and email them back to the original requestor.
If the sun was only 10 kilometres from your house, a mass extinction might occur.
Seriously, this has to be the most bizzare astronomy story tagline I've ever read. I figured this was the submitter's quote, or possibly the article writer - nope, it was from one of the physicists.
10 kilometres is a heck of a lot smaller than 10 Light years which is what the article actually says.
At least when it comes to the iRiver - its due to the battery type. The iPod uses a Lithium ion battery, whereas the iRiver uses a more expensive Lithium polymer battery, which has a greater capacity.
Well, if you'd read the article, you would realise they _did_ change the page to XHTML 1.0
From the stripped down version, the code was converted to XHTML 1.0 Transitional, and validated.
A fly-sized webserver? I'm suprised it lasted long enough for me to see it. Or maybe its something to do with the fact that its early morning in the US...
Im in Australia, and when I visit the website, I can't see any message from the DOJ - the website looks exactly how I'd expect it to look (not having been there before, however). In fact, the forum statistics say there are 154 members, and 461 guests currently online...

It might just be me, but I didn't think priests were supposed to be drinking...
Anyway, what kind of priest has a *washing machine* - they're modern, therefore evil, aren't they???
Actually, the speed of an electrical signal varies widely depending on the molecular structure of the material, so saying Electrical signals travel at around 1/10 the speed of light isn't true.
(7) Time until someone loses the stylus, and realises using a non-microsoft replacement will void the warranty, and, under terms in the EULA, result in a $25,000 fine...(about 1 week)

Am I missing something here?

Not on my Thinkpad laptop you can't. With a BIOS and harddisk password enabled, and no way to reset those passwords, you're not booting off anything.
Was the hard disk running with DMA enabled? If it was using PIO that would explain the large amounts of CPU for heavy I/O.
Fail2Ban is also a great tool for banning repeated attacks against SSH, apache, etc. Its what I use.

What money? He said he got both cryofreezers for free, because they weren't workign originally. So the only cost is his time.

In Australia, all local calls are a flat rate.
Sounds perfect for all the Comp Sci students out there.
The parts left over are termed 'profit'
It musn't just be in XP - i just tried it using IE 5.00.3315.1000 under windows 2000, and it crashed.
Actually, SVCD's can only store about 30 minutes - it is the normal VCD that can hold about 74 minutes worth of video
