    Well done slashdot!! An extremely relevant news article (im not being sarcastic).

    I'll go read the articles and see... I was planning on ordering the 12" Powerbook this evening :)~

    So does anyone here that owns a 12" PB have anything that should be brought to my attention before buying one? I've never owned a mac before but Im quite interested in this Powerbook because of how small it is and also it means I'll have a portable Unix based laptop. Im a student learning C++, Java and AWK right now.

    (A)DSL in the UK is quite widespread. Admittedly its not everywhere, but I'd take a good guess that everywhere that one could receive NTL Cable they would also be able to receive DSL. DSL does have a lot of competition compared to Cable where there is only really NTL.

    But you are quite right in saying that nothing is stopping them. Its damn annoying.

    It appears as if its just a regular Sony device. Quite stylish and innovative but also expensive and not particularly very fast. If they worked on the performance side of things then maybe one could justify the extra expense... but as the article points out, you can save a few hundred $$$ and get a faster machine from Gateway.

    I've moved on... Kazaa is old hat, the media and big coporations are after it. DC++ is growing and if you can find decent hubs they are much better than Kazaa. I happen to be on one hub which requires 100gig verified share and 10mbit of bandwidth...

    Because after all these AC posts it really does seem that in "the land of freedom" there in fact is very little freedom. Just because someone is finding holes, its best to air them rather than have them go unoticed by the owners. Thats what many people who report bugs say...

    and im sure people wouldnt care one jot if it was say, India's Military site or something.

    The funny thing is, I know someone who did this about a year ago. He had some dishes and some really modified equipment. The problem is that its so easy to trace so he didnt use it much. But there was *alot* of bandwidth from it.

    But it doesnt have superior drivers! Surely games would be released for Linux and all the gamers start to use Linux for games if it did have. But it doesnt. Not where speed is concerned anyway and thats what counts.

    I dont see why he's been modded up apart from some Linux zealot being biased. Its quite right that Windows is better for games and its hardly something that can be discussed.

    .. but what is the point in making conversions for Linux? The vast majority of Gamers use Windows because it has better graphics drivers, better hardware support and its easier to install and set games up.

    Until Linux has superior speed, drivers and ease of use, it will remain as a server based OS, and not as a Gaming OS.

    I doubt Apple would really want any of Mandrake's software or hardware... and the graphical installer is hardly "slick", ok maybe compared to text installs but its hardly revolutionary.
