A lots of those I can see how this could make some warped sense for religious/political reasons, but can someone clarify why Germany? What makes it special?
Have you seen German porn?! Blocking the term there is a public service!
"A free market is a theoretical term that economists use to describe a market which is free from government intervention (i.e. no regulation, no subsidization, no single monetary system and no governmental monopolies)."
Let me add this, because that is the definition most people think of, and it is not quite complete:
"By definition, buyers and sellers do not coerce each other, in the sense that they obtain each other's property without the use of physical force, threat of physical force, or fraud,"
So "free market" is more a theoretical thought experiment rather than something that can be created. Attempting to implement it in the real world is called "lassez-faire". I think there are very few people who actually want a purely free market.
Even Libertarians generally seek mixed markets, just to a lesser degree than some other political leanings.
Someone who wanted pure "lassez-faire" would be more of an Anarchist.
Neurolutions, based in St Louis has developed a small implanted device that translates signals recorded from the surface of the brain into computer commands. The device, which is less invasive than implants and more accurate that scalp electrodes, uses a grid of electrodes placed directly on the surface of the brain to monitor electrical activity
Awesome! They developed an implant which is less invasive than implants!
It is amazing to me... Microsoft's cobbled together video was clearly done to make sure they had a response. It didn't just have a horrible reaction time... sometimes it was psychic. Watch the kid and the dinosaur... the dinosaur will start stomping before the kid does. They are out of sync and it was all clearly canned.
I bet it was simply a response to "Oh, shit, Nintendo is coming out with Wii-motion plus, Sony is going to demonstrate their new controller live, we better show off something... anything!"
they are sticking to the idea that consoles (and handhelds) should be for playing games
If by "sticking to the idea that consoles should be for playing games" you mean "have the lowest rated selection of all consoles" then you would be absolutely correct.
If anarchy only does 3 times better than Mugabe, I don't see how one can responsibly recommend anarchy.
I'm not sure who you think is recommending anarchy. Another strawman. It's like trying to describe evolution and having a creationist say "Oh yeah, well my grandpa ain't no gorilla!" That is not what I am saying.
If you'll re-read what has been written I was simply pointing out that Somalia isn't a very good argument against anarchy since several of its peers with governments are doing significantly more poorly.
Personally I think governments are absolutely required to ensure that free markets remain so. I completely agree anarchy is a piss poor economic and political framework. No one had bought it up until the grandparent's strawman.
I was just pointing out the stupidity of using Somalia as an example.
If you think free market economics means absence of government you really don't understand what you're talking about. Free markets require government intervention in order to remain free.
But short of going belly up entirely and leaving people in anarchy, government never has to worry about going out of business.
Solution: move to Somalia. Government free since '92.
First, suggesting that government is less efficient than private industry is not suggesting that government be removed. It is a strawman to imply otherwise.
Second, anarchy is exactly what he is referring to when government fails.
Isn't it amazing how all of these advancements show up when given a little push?
It really is amazing how they founded a company, got a grant, looked into an area of research, and made a breakthrough all in less than three months.
I gotta hand it to the administration. I used to think government was inefficient. Now I know better.
But my first thought upon reading "Chapel" was...
I'm multi-threaded bitch!

Yes, I've always found that the analogies to real estate break down when you realize that the operative work in real estate is "real".
Does that make the internet "fake estate"?
What do they know? If there was some knowledge in the industry about the future we wouldn't have the mess we have right now.
Same reason we're letting the banks and the Federal Reserve solve the problem they didn't see coming and initially assured us was contained.
'Why do you actually need to have something downloaded on your PC?
So I can put it on my PSP?
Getting it here on XP + Firefox. Yeah, about a week.

Next up, a duck that quacks louder than a duck!
I've been curious about building one as well, but quick question... will it do kids shows?
With a two and four year old in the house, Mickey Mouse is a must.

Again, the idea that it won due to fun gameplay completely conflicts with the fact that it has the lowest rated selection.
It may have won. Why it won is most decidedly not the gameplay.
It's not enough to create a vacuum of information in peoples' heads. You have to put something there.
American Idol!
Seriously I think the US is heading to "Brave New World" and China is trying out "1984".
Flamebait? Truth hurts I guess.

Ever bought a beer at a baseball game?
A coke at a movie theater?
Maybe you think we should pay the same total amount of taxes (not percentage) as they do in China?
You may think that it's because they don't have actual sex (which isn't true because plenty of the committed players have families and kids)
Families and kids are a detriment to sexual activity, not a guarantor of it.
Maybe the old axiom about MS getting it right on the third shot is going to hold true, yet again?
What has Microsoft ever gotten right?
Regardless of how Somalia is doing in general, the fact remains that saying:
"Solution: move to Somalia. Government free since '92. Best of luck."
Is no more insightful or less stupid than saying:
"Solution: move to Zimbabwe or North Korea. Government run for decades. Best of luck."
Perhaps I should have simply made that comparison directly.

Third, you just proved his point. Somalia has a significantly higher per capita GDP than four other African countries with governments.
The trouble with benevolent dictatorships is that it is far too easy for them to become malevolent dictatorships
