And while Torvalds said he agrees with some of the criticisms SCO's actions have triggered on Linux-friendly online forums such as Slashdot, he also called for restraint and maturity in dealing with SCO. "I hope this doesn't incite anybody to (launch a denial-of-service attack against) the SCO Web site or something silly like that," he said.
I think they mis-quoted Linus, there must have been a *wink* *wink* somewhere at the end of that quote.
Not really SciFi per se, but how about some Stephen King for a change. I love the way he describes settings. It creates a very vivid picture in your mind and you can lose yourself in the story for quite a few hours. Some of his books that I would really recommend are the Dark Tower books:
Soon to be re-released:
The Dark Tower: The Gunslinger
The Dark Tower: The Drawing of the Three
The Dark Tower: The Waste Lands
The Dark Tower: Wizard & Glass
Not yet released:
The Dark Tower: Wolves of the Calla (November 2003)
The Dark Tower: Song of Susannah (Summer 2004)
The Dark Tower: The Dark Tower (November 2004)
I don't know if N.U.D.E. will be available outside Japan, off the top of my head. A lot of the new content you will see is more interactive, social community...people want a competitive but fun social experience and we are experimenting with a lot of new concepts like project N.U.D.E.
I just hope they don't borrow from Clippy's personality...although, in this case, hmmm...
I see you're trying to beat off. Would you like a hand with that?
Why don't ISPs set up several "pristine" accounts whose address is not given to anyone (document it) but is easy to guess through random generators and sue all spammers that send mail to them into oblivion?
My dad who was older than 55 at the time took a community college class in PL/1 and was able to find a job as a programmer for an insurance company. Younger programmers usually learn the newer languages and don't want to get stuck with mainframe jobs. There are still plenty of open positions out there if you're willing to spend a bit of time retraining yourself.
The Science Channel had a good documentary on the moons of the solar system -- 95 Worlds and Counting. Basically, it's a lot more likely that we will find life on one of the moons (e.g. Europa).
The only other info I could find on the program on their website was the VHS they had on sale
here.
It's true that you can pick the tracks you want, but that's the ONLY advantage. You don't have the artwork, they're lower quality, you don't have the CD, jewel case (you have to pay for those when you burn) which brings it up in price, you can't do everything you can with a CD (play anywhere, rip to any format you like, listen to it with any sort of CD/mp3 player).
If their software is not all it's cracked up to be and you had no chance to check their claims (but instead had to take their word for it) then they clearly are responsible for breaking their word.
That sounds great but who determines what "is not all it's cracked up to be" means. There is no objective measure. No software is perfect, and most companies have neither the resources nor the will to look through the source code. I do believe that companies have to be held responsible for bad software, but there has to be some pre-established conditions. EULA's shouldn't be one-sided. Unfortunately, until we see people rejecting EULA's alltogethere there won't be a change in the current situation.
Make everyone that sees it sign an EUSA (End User Seeing Agreement) that prevents anyone from disclosing the current location of Mt. Fuji. Put out statement with new location.
Thanks for the sarcastic comments, we all needed them. I searched for myself, and figured I would save a couple of people the trouble. If you run the search on the title, you'll see the exact same (or pretty similar) link. The id referral brings me no money as it is an internally generated URL and in no way associated to me. If you'd searched it yourself as, you would have noticed that.
It works pretty well in XP (sounds and all). I still play it from time to time.
You might need something like VDMS. I don't know if it's "required" because I had it installed just in case.

Why won't they just SCO away?
How can you top inventing the internet???
Why you little...!
Aaaaahhhhg!
I wonder if the result would have been the same if they had used that Verizon monkey. That is one smart monkey...or one dumb comercial.

I chose not to choose the red pill. I chose something else. And the reasons? There are no reasons. Who needs reasons when you've got the Matrix?"
Hehe, reminds me of Bill O'Reilly saying that Powell was literally stabbed in the back by France.
Does Rumsfeld read Slashdot?
Yes.
It is retarded to make up your own questions and then procede to answer them?
Yes.

Just go to Walgreens, apparently all you have to do to get authenticated is tell them your name. It would help if your name is not John Smith.
They didn't want Carmack after their ass with an RPG trying to get their rocket fuel.
OK, we can slashdot a webiste, surely we can fix this. Ok, on 3 let's all start running west. 1...2...3...
running though is not so popular among this crowd...
Here are a couple of screenshots:

Maybe the MS guy/gal was just playing along. I would have thought it would be a weak attempt, but two weeks laters (s)he is still getting people.
Try right-clicking the executable, select properties, compatibility, set it to Windows 95.

The book is apparently not available at BN, so I checked Amazon, and they have it.
