Boycotts almost never work...can you imagine the kind of thought and commitement that would have to go into a successful boycot? No one will go through the process of actively making sure that they are not buying any Disney products unless they have a serious personal reason to do so. Unless Disney starts killing off some nerds, I don't foresee a boycott coming.
The only thing that will work, is money, and the only way that we will pay is if it becomes easy and safe to do so. One way to do this is to send something like a $500 yearly check to some organization to hold (SLashdot can do it, they get to keep the interest and maybe even make more money through investing that money - sort of a pseudo bank) and every time something like this happens, Slashdot can have a money hammer on top of the offending Senator's head. One click of the hammer, bamm $10 bucks against him or her. Pool that money and somehow display how much money has been gathered so far so as to encourage more donating...MAYBE then something will get done through Slashdot. Any other way will not work. Boycotts will not work and letters will not work.
I've always wondered how come there isn't a nationwide station dedicated solely to technology. There are plenty of geeks and nerds to watch it, and you could always have shows teaching the elderly or the less technologicaly inclined simple computer tasks. One or more of the major computer companies (Dell, Gateway, Apple, Microsoft, etc -- apparently AOL/TW can't afford it:) could sponsor it. It's unbelievable that there isn't enough of a market considering how pervasive technology is in today's society. The only shows right now that even remotely feature computers are HSN and the like and the dichotomy between getting my tech fill and pulling my ears off is unnerving.
I think they were pretty much done in by Microsoft's IE. If they had value why didn't they continue to exploit it? It's not like AOL wants to throw money away for no good reason.
They probably just wanted to send out a couple of samples, but due to programming deficiencies ended up in an infinite loop and now they can't stop sending people free CD's.
I would buy from a trusted local store. You might end up spending a bit more, but at least you can go exchange a component without having to worry about S&H and delays.
I've had good experience with KDS. My monitor was starting to show some dead pixels (three that I could see). I talked to tech support and they send me a replacement monitor after geting my CC info so that I would return the old one.
It just goes to show how unwilling this administration is to punish Microsoft. I bet you even if they admitted that they hurt competition and will continue to hurt the competition using their monopoly powers, they will not get punished. We'll see how it ends up.
They cost a whole lot of money, they take something like 5 hours to recharge, they're not all that fast, and you can't really cary anything more than a briefcase on them. I can see how it's good for the environment, but it's not like they're replacing cars; more than likely they're replacing feet and bikes. What are some of the benefits to springing all that dough on a Segway?
The Monorail Song:
Monorail
Lyle Lanley: Well, sir, there's nothing on earth
Like a genuine,
Bona fide,
Electrified,
Six-car
Monorail!
What'd I say?
Ned Flanders: Monorail!
Lyle Lanley: What's it called?
Patty+Selma: Monorail!
Lyle Lanley: That's right! Monorail!
[crowd chants `Monorail' softly and rhythmically]
Miss Hoover: I hear those things are awfully loud...
Lyle Lanley: It glides as softly as a cloud.
Apu: Is there a chance the track could bend?
Lyle Lanley: Not on your life, my Hindu friend.
Barney: What about us brain-dead slobs?
Lyle Lanley: You'll be given cushy jobs.
Abe: Were you sent here by the devil?
Lyle Lanley: No, good sir, I'm on the level.
Wiggum: The ring came off my pudding can.
Lyle Lanley: Take my pen knife, my good man.
I swear it's Springfield's only choice...
Throw up your hands and raise your voice!
All: Monorail!
Lyle Lanley: What's it called?
All: Monorail!
Lyle Lanley: Once again...
All: Monorail!
Marge: But Main Street's still all cracked and broken...
Bart: Sorry, Mom, the mob has spoken!
All: Monorail!
Monorail!
Monorail!
[big finish]
Monorail!
Homer: Mono... D'oh!
Offtopic, moded to hell for sure, but I really hate it when people use the ending -itis to signify a disease. It means an inflamation doesn't it? Since when has Enron gotten an inflamation.
Can they really make a profit by lowering prices like this? I thought the X-box was on a thin margin as it was. Maybe Microsoft just wants to get a foothold on the market and then make re-adjustments.
Most people prefer the deadtree version, so they might download the e-book and see if they like it, but ultimately I think they buy the paper version to actually read it. This is different from CD's and DVD's since those you can enjoy listening and watching right after you download them. I know a lot of people buy the CD's they have downloaded if they like them, but I am also sure that there are many more who do not.

Anyone got a translation? Altavista choked on it.
So how's this different from extracting hydrogen from regular H2O? Not to be a party pooper, but what does shit have to do with hydrogen?

Enough ranting...still wishing

Milliard is not used in the US. Billion is used instead

Is that 5GB of porn in your pocket or are you just happy to see me? ;)
Will it still be possible to Slashdot I2 servers?
He killed C3P0...that bastard
Why would you have it go at speeds up to 50mph if it's only 7 miles long? I would guess most people getting on it would want to see the sites around.
damn formatting, here you go

Here's an interesting site about old computers. It has pictures of most of models. Brings back memories...

What? You mean you guys actually exist? I thought you were like the Immortals and could only be sensed by other moderators.
