If the USA gets socialized medicine then where will Canadians go to get good health care instead of the meat grinder that is the Canadian health care system? When the government steps in and starts dictating how much hospitals/doctors/etc can make then it's a disincentive to go to school a third of your life for that profession.
Also if we put cost caps on medication the same way that Canada does then our R&D will go down the tubes because the huge profit won't be available for the rare hit that decent drugs can be.
I work 80 hours a week, and live on a tight budget and spend a lot on health care, and my family gets great care. It's not the bullshit I figured it would be. Economics/Investing/Money Management books - I Read the Total Money Makeover by Dave Ramsey, and am now debt free with a pretty decent net worth.

* BUDGET: pay yourself first. What I do is transfer 1050$ to my HSBC 5.05% savings account on the 1'st and 15th of the month, and I'm forced to live on what's left. If there is anything left at the end of the month in my checking account over 1000, it goes to savings too.
* NO FEES: Don't be stupid, keep an emergency account of at least 1000 dollars in a savings account, or at the bottom of your checking account and zero it out at the end of the month. When I was young and stupid I would pay a thousand or much more in late fees or overdraft fees. That thousand at the bottom of my checking saves me at least a thousand a year.
* HAVE FUN AND STAY HEALTHY: Play tennis, play golf and walk, run, enjoy nature. A trip to the Dr's even with insurance is damn expensive, and you can have fun and stay healthy at the same time!
* TAKE ADVANTAGE OF EMPLOYER BENEFITS. Let them pay for college classes, use the medical savings plan if you can and if you have money left in it at the end of the year go buy a ton of vitamins or something like that and turn in the receipts so you don't lose the money.

Contrary to public opinion millionaires don't sleep on cash matresses. That money goes to the bank or is invested in public or private firms which employ people. If you strip the top earning people of their investments then you will deprive the companies of the investments causing massive layoffs and stagnate growth. Of course the people you give the money to will be happy, but how long will that money last with no job and massive unemployment driving wages downward? The only way it would even be halfway sustainable is if you redistributed the income without taking it out of it's investments and instead redistributed the investments and somehow magically convinced the poor not to cash out.
This argument shouldn't be about income redistribution at all unless you just want to crash economies into oblivion, it should instead focus upon where the money the rich have is invested.
