    It can piggyback on a safari exploit and boom, it becomes a remote exploit.

    What, intrinsically, makes OSX immune to spyware?

    OSX cannot stop you from running software that is inherently evil.

    The fact that there isn't spyware on OSX proves that small marketshare is indeed a huge factor in lack of exploits in OSX... because there is absolutely no technical reason for spyware not to work on OSX.

    as long as the Applications folder is writable by the primary user by default, OSX is intrinsically insecure.

    OSX is vulnerable to the oldest of viruses.. the kind that attaches to an executable and then spreads to all your other executables.

    It doesn't need you to type your password in order to infect Safari or iTunes.

    That's not true anymore. OSX has been getting slower and slower with each revision.

    Hell, look at the requirements for Spore. Spore for XP requires 512 megs of ram, Spore for Vista requires 768 megs of ram, and Spore for OSX requires 1 gig of ram.

    Since when is an SSID broadcast equivilent to a circus barker?

    The fact is, even though I have WPA on my router, I still broadcast my SSID.. most people do.

    The SSID broadcast is no different from having my house number on the side of the house for all to see. It lets you locate my house, it doesn't grant permission to come in.

    The SSID lets you locate my router, it doesn't imply permission.

    Maybe they have a device that doesn't work with WEP. I still remember when it was recommended that your router and your pccard were made by the same manufacturer because of incompatibilities with WEP.

    It doesn't issue an invitation. It issues an SSID. It's no different than my having my house numbers on the side of my house, visible from the street.

    "Stealing" WiFi is the same as stealing broadcast TV or radio.


    No, it's the same as using a scanner to make phone calls using your neighbor's cordless phones.

    yes, but DHCP must do that to work. I could DDOS your computer and not be breaking the law according to you.

    These conversations would be different if routers came locked down by default and the owner had to intentionally open them up.

    The fact is, if you find an open network you have no way of knowing whether or not the owner intended it to be open. It's best to just assume it's an accident and that you DON'T have permission.

    Read through these comments and you see just how far people are willing to stretch in order to justify getting free wifi.

    Simple question: are there peeping tom laws? How could it be illegal to sit at someone's window and stare inside when they have the ability to draw the shades?

    They don't have access to the private keys of every server. Their public key is in their home directory on every server.

    You just delete their account, or their authorized_keys file.

    Well, crappy support from RH is one of the reasons so many people left RH in the first place. EL4 came out after libpangocairo 1.0 did... why didn't they include it even though it would become an integral part of GTK2? Who knows.

    Won't be added now though, Redhat Full Support for RHEL4 stopped May 15, 2008. The only thing you'll be getting is security fixes.

    "Pretty new"? As close as I can tell, that library was first released in 2004.

    Really? Doesn't sound reasonable to me. Especially since out of the companies we're talking about, Google is the one who've been hit with age discrimination suits. (Complaining that the entire company discriminates against anyone over 25)

    My PC can barely make prettier graphics than the 360.. and my wife won't let me hook up the PC to our 42" HDTV, unlike the 360.

    All in all, the 360 is just a better gaming platform than the PC could ever be.

    Plus, I know that, just like my old NES games, I'll be able to play these games 20 years from now.

    The rule is, you take your annual salary ($89,000), you take 28% of that, and divide by twelve, and that is your upper bound for mortgage payment ($2,076).
