it's a getaway excuse to take a vacation from your busy days to go skiing with the hot ski bunnies...
The CEO of sony (powerful as he may be) does not talk about issues that will keep soo many world economic leaders up at night... instead he talks about his 30 years of work and dedication....
Richard gere also.. says something that's just plain stupid....
so IMHO a stupid essay that picked the wrong event to bring about the main point.
acutalyl the other guy was right
the PC as in personal computers and not teh big blocky expensive things that colleges and governments/businesses used was first introduced
in 1975 with the Altair
then 1976 with the Apple 1..
both sold extremely well and were meant for the general market and not the rich geeky college kids.
and it's those ignorant topics that gets people confused and run to their employees and get their asses fired.
it basically says..
if you're a dumbass and not a "employee (that) is highly skilled and is proficient in the theoretical and practical application of highly specialized information to computer systems analysis, programming, and software
engineering. "
get paid less then 41$/hour and acutally spend 15 hours of your day REALLY programming and not sitting there "designing/analyzing" the situation
then you can get paid overtime I see that the wording is for the employer to prove all the above but it's not really that difficult to prove.. you'd literally have to find a way to show the courts that you spent alllllllll your time at work doing nothign but coding and not designing or doodling.
I can almost say that if a company does that and still keeps that employee around.... they'd be bankrupt already.
erm... it's not that hard if you know your chem..
HCl + Al= H + Spark = Bang...
you can readily buy HCL at any hardware store and it's even listed as HCL
and if you dont know what Al is... well... you shouldn't be reading this then.
and what makes sim desk better then office?
the article itself states that sim desk has none of the cool features office has.
the only thing "cool" about sim desk is..
"Its breakthrough was in finding a way to control millions of simultaneous PC users via a single computer server. "
Psh my sub-seven trojan does that for me for free..
Another retarded article posted by retarded linux users who seem to mindlessly follow the mentallity that ms has no good software.
You know what I hope you troll me because obviously you know I'm right. And you know what.. If I wanted a 5 on any of these stupid articles.. all Ihave to say is "MS sucks Linux rules"..
/. is going downhill because of that... and nowadays I only see at most a few good posters who acutally help increase the knowledge of others. Constantly seeing MS sucks does not promote any sort of information. These kinds of articles should really be banned from slash dot as I personally am completely tired of seeing such repetitive articles spammed on this site.
But do any of you ever wonder about the guff and the soul. (the guff is a place in heaven that holds all the souls that ever will be)
after reading the post about the random switching of teh X chromosomes it gets me wondering. Perhaps the switching is not random and that somewhere something knows to say turn that one off because it knows that somewhere another soul already turned it on.
So going by that even though we can clone an animal... it will never be the same because the soul knows what already exists and won't allow the exact copy to be made. and when you have made every single possible copy and you run out of souls.. it's no longer possible to clone the animal because it would have no soul. br.
be an interesting religion with some basis in science:)
something to think about
I believe you are stretching that statement WAAAAAY too far.
Notice how the article never extends beyond cats. Because scientifically cats are completley different from humans.
So unless you're a cat... what happens with a cat MAY happen wtih a human or not. Of course we won't know until that baby clone pops out and takes a few years to grow.
you land a Good dBA job and thats' how much?
60000$-80000$
Geee lemme think REALLLLLLLLLLLLLL hard on this one... I think I might even need a hint here... hmmmmmm
100$.... 60000$... man the decisions...
I guess it's all kind of hard because all you can think about is getting free software huh?
if you look at the big "money makers" for the music industry... Nsync, britney spears, christina, Backstreet boys...
these guys were a fresh thing and they "Boomed" the music industry. I mean these artists were selling record number of albums left and right... and as we all realized from before it was just a fad... and this is the fading of the fad.. It's not "soft economy" or "bad planning" or "RIAA" or "piracy"... it's the simple fact that the record companies have nothing to really follow up with the incredible success of people like britney spears... including britney spears herself whose album sold half as many as the previous one.
Isn't this just some...

type of multiplexing scheme that they use in new current fiber optic systems to boost performance?
or is it some kind of compression scheme where you take the signal transfer and match it to the closest matched wave possible and simply send over an encoding of it instead.
though in other notes.. isn't the best way to boost speed.. just to put more power into it?:-P
works with cpus... why not bandwidth... hehe
Read the previous message people..
LISP/EMACS has been mentioned over 300 times.
How can you NOT see that someone else already posted some shit already..
This is supposed to be a fucken discussion not "blalblab LISP.. blalbla EMACS"
talk about USEFUL things... I dunno like if an OS was built around perl and discuss how easy it would be to setup yer various unix jobs. Or if every form of data on your computer was saved to XML instead of all the propietary file formats nowadays.
or if every program on yer computer was all written in one language including the OS itself.. I dunno wahtever... but make it a fucken interesting discussion instead of Lisp or EMACs does this.
if you wish to talk about LISP or EMACS... whip out the technical docs and fucken tell me all the system hooks that LISP or EMACS uses in it's VMs to qualify it as an OS.
Intel is acutally run not by business men so you are very wrong.
Andy Groove and Gordon Moore (two founders of intel) are by far two of the most prominent semiconductor scientists of the 20th century.
Dr. Grove himself has written over 40 technical papers and holds several patents on semiconductor devices and technology. For six years he taught a graduate course in semiconductor device physics at the University of California, Berkeley.
How many people here can say they have taught 6 years in a graduate course at Berkeley?
Craig Barrett the current CEo of intel himself is nothign to scoff at either. He's a fulbright fellow that received his PHD in material science at stanford. He has 40 technical papers dealing with the influence of microstructure on the properties of materials.
So before you knock on Intel about how businessmen is run by businessmen do your homework.
These guys are Far from business men. They are first and foremost incredibly talented scientist who happen to be good at business.
Intel has one of the world's LARGEST cost in terms of research and development along with GE, MS and AMD.
I'm sorry but you are sadly mistaken if you feel that Intel is run by businessmen.
buy a 50$ DBA book and sit down and learn that shit
As with online job resumes... here's a tip i picked up. Don't bother.. You go online only to find the listing. However most times you will see an email too. Better to submit your resume directly ALONG WITH A COVER LETTER!!!
A cover letter is very important and make sure you triple check it for grammar spelling and all those other stupid nonsense u may normally say.
Landing the interview is all about the presentation. Make sure you present yourself in your cover letter. If you think you know oracle after doing it on your own make sure your resume reflects this. Look on the net on how to write a technical resume as oppose to your say business resume
The NY market is far from flat
I have yet to meet anyone I know personally who couldn't get a job in the IT market in NY.
Honestly people... would you want ANY ROBOT DOING BRAIN SURGERY ON YOUR BRAIN RUNNING ANY DAMN OS?
That shit better be engrained in the circuitry and it better have a qualified surgeon at the other end of it. I don't care if it's linux/unix/windows... no robot is touching any part of me if it's not embedded in the silicon.
just imagine let's say the process hangs.. what are you goign to do?... kill -9? might as well kill -me
The new shuttle mini boxes.. roughly the size of a barbie microwave oven.. with the new nforce 2 chipset allows you get get a very powerful dolby digital 6 speaker compliant sound system. (About 600$ with everything included already)
connect to that a usb TV tuner that supports Video Out also (for about 200$ from hauppage) and you have a little box that plays dvds on the tv along with surround sound
you have 200$ left over to buy an IR kit that you can plug into your computer's mobo and stick the receiver on the front panel and program your remote control. ( I know there's been lotsa projects on the web for remote controled computers and it's not that hard) simply program the remote's buttons with a specific command per button.. ie... button 1 will call winamp.. button 2 will call the tv tuner.. so on so forth.
so for about 1000$ you can easily have a hobby to try and set something like this all up
btw speaker systems are not included in this equation... cuz good ones can throw yer costs another 300$.
if you don't like the oven.. you can buy a small form factor desktop case... it's roughly the size of your everyday Amplifier case. To make sure you can get a small one.. buy one of those ECS motherboards... only 3 pci slots (some have only 2)... 1 for a sb audigy... 2 for a dope ass video card with video out... 3 for the tv tuner... IR sensors are located on the mobo and you just need to buy the front panel extensions for those...
here's a rack up of total costs
Case with power supply (Enlight is a good compnay)- 50$
Mobo (ECS brand)- 50$
CPU (p4's 1.8 ghz are cooler runnign and quieter)- 120$
SB audigy 1/2 platinum ex (comse you a remote that you can hack at and already has IR plus has all that digital audio out/in, line in/out, optical in/out for all your sound needs)- 160$
Geforce 4 ti4200 w/ video out- 150$
Hauppage winTV HDTV PCI- 230$
hard disk (80 gigs depending the size of your por.. mp3 collection)- 100$
Klipsch pro media 5.1 speakers- 300$
USB gamepads x2- $40
DVD driver w/software- 50$
windows 2k- 80$
winamp- Free
Aol im- Free
Divx encoder/decoder- free
Watching pr0n on the big screen tv - Pricesless
Total Cost of Project: ~1400$
and it's very possible... I'm half way there already... all I need now is that HDTV tv tuner... and a big HDTV 60" plasma display.
I don't know about French law's but with the cessation of payments it doesn't necessarily sound that bad.
Judging by the readings I think alot of people have a misunderstanding of what bankruptcy really means.
Bankruptcy is not necessarily a bad thing. Alot of times a company will go bankrupted because it made alot of stupid payments, it's staff is overbloated or a bunch of various different reasons.
When a company files for chapter 11 (in the states) That specifically states they are free from all previous date for a protected time period. (ie they dont have to pay for any debts they accumulated) During this time period a company will then restructure it's business, ie. change of CEO, switch over of board of directors so on so forth to hopefully bring the company out of bankruptcy.
Bankruptcy is actually just a protection from the creditors coming in and "cleaning house" ie selling all assets of the firm and completely dissolving the company (that's a bad thing). So it's very well possible that if Mandrake sticks in a better business model that they can pull out of their bankruptcy (however I'm not too fluent with french bankruptcy laws).
For those of you who think.. well bankruptcy is great.. I should just decalre bankruptcy and have all my debts forgiven.. yes well that works to an extent. Companies need to borrow money to operate (unless you're microsoft who is one of the ONLY companies in the world that never runs on debt or Bonds for those of you more financially inclined) if you declare bankruptcy you're bond rating goes below a Triple B rating (moody's rating agency) which puts it below investment grade. (Junk Bonds) That means you'd have to pay a MUCH higher interest on the money you borrow.
Simply stated you need to make sure you have a damn good business plan to pull out of bankruptcy which usually entails cutting alot of "fat" from the company.
Somtimes you have a realyl good business plan in place after bankruptcy and you're very close to pulling out but the deadline approached and yer still not quite there. A company can then file for a chapter 22 or a second bankruptcy. You can even go for a third bankruptcy.. but that doesn't happen too often.
Here's an interesting fact tho...
in all of US history I believe there has only been 1 successful company coming out of chapter 11 and I think that's Texaco Chevron. (a little tidbit for those of you who care about stupid facts).
I'm totally for this to an extent. For copyright I think only companies that have retained that have consistently and continually pumped money into the copyright should be able to retain that copyright.
Disney's mickey mouse is world reknown.. and no one can say someone else created it. Same with the coca cola way of writing the words coca cola. The company is still around and they still continously pump money into those products. Coke still advertises constantly and disney always has new movies coming out
what I don't like is when a copyright extends after the death of the company/person. What I would prefer is this. The copyrights for a company/person will endeavor as long as the company shows continual interest in supporting the copyright.
Copyrights should not be allowed to be sold and should only be allowed to benefit the person/company that created the copyright.
so you kind of have a copyright that doesn't have a set lifespan. If a person/company wishes to maintain their copyright they'll have to demonstrate that they still continually use it. And if they stop using it for say like a period of a year. The copyright is then nulled and public domained.
that's how I feel they should write the laws because I REALLY hate it when a person/company doesn't care about their copyright anymore.. but they hold it there cuz what the hell.. hten when another company not knowingly uses it... the person with the copyright will then proceed to collect money for something he let sit on the side a long time ago... totally hate that.
it's a getaway excuse to take a vacation from your busy days to go skiing with the hot ski bunnies...

and buying software does not imply agreement
for those of you who still buy software.. it still comes wtih one of those stickers that sayz if you rip the sticker off you've agreed to the eula..
stupid people making stupid law suits with no merit...
this one ranks up there with the mcdonalds lawsuit... as in I ddin't know eating burgers could make me fat..
or I didn't know ripping the sticker that says i agree to the eula would say i agreed to the EULA..

anyhow my two cents...
the pink isn't that bad... but it is noticeable... once you start watching the film tho you won't realize it's pink....
except when you blink... cuz you know... you've been glued to the tv for a while now....
then you start seeing these pink dots everywhere too..
