I believe the goal of the slot is if you rip out the lock, it'll permanently damage the chasis and shell, thus making it unsellable, thus making it less a target, not making it "unstealable"
eh, its not that bad. I'm running a 128MB FX5200 on a 2.6Ghz P4 (800Mhz Buss) with 512 of dual-channel DDR RAM.
I run at 640x480 at medium detail and it's smooth as silk (I average aroudn 40 FPS) . On high detail it still does well but gets choppy in some places (~30 most areas, with dips around 15-20). 800x600 on medium gives the same effect. Resolution in this game is HIGHLY overrated. I know you have that urge to play at 1024x768, but really, its not needed. I don't know how he did it, but 640x480 is looking better than HL at 1280x1024. No AA needed.
I just beat it. My god, I'd pay MORE than $55 than this. It was great.
And for everyone saying it was a HL rip off? HAH. My ass. HL ripped off Doom in the first place. I loved HL, dont get me wrong. It's the golden standard for anything nowadays, but Doom 3 just raised that fucking bar. I'll now rate any single player experience to Doom 3.
People who say that it was repetitive... you know what? Maybe it was. But you're on a space station, filled with monsters... what else is there to do? A relaxing game a racketball? And for those bitching the guns were "uninspired" no, they're fucking realistic (ok, I know guns like the plasma rifle and BFG aren't "realistic" but if you're gonna have shit that can store energy BETWEEN the nucleus and the electron shell (watch those video disks in game) I would LIKE to think we can have guns like that. No alt fire? People have been spoiled with this shit... the ONLY thing I can think of that should be added is a "pistol whip" feature, like in Halo. Can't have the flashlight out with the gun? That adds to the fear... "Do I have my gun out so I can shoot shit or would I rather see..." It adds to the tenstion of the game. People who complain about that stuff, as far as I'm concerned are "spoiled" by shit like that... if you're in a riot situation are you gonna bitch that the pistol you grabbed and the maglight you found can't be one unit? No. You use what you have and deal with it. Thats call "immersion" you stop thinking like a spoiled little person with unlimited resources and start thinking like a marine stuck out in space with only a few tools at his disposal...
Gah. The amount of naysaying about this game pisses me off. Instead of realizing the amount of work and study that went into this, people are brats. That Time article said Carmack studied optics for four years to make the engine work better, be more realistic. Thats fucking dedication.
The man invented our pastime, lets show some respect for christ's sake.
I currently have the same problem as you. I VNC into my box at home and do stuff. Browse torrent sites, etc...
I also run a radio station for everyone in the department (Computing Services for my university) and people making requests and such make things interesting (don't have that one... hmmm, lemme find it and throw it on the playlist)
AIM keeps things interesting, as does sites like MySpace, Orkut, and even LiveJournal. Slashdot, fark, and others keep me sane.
an occasional game of solitaire, stepping outside for a cigerette (a vanilla clove is excellent for killing stress, I have to say),
Other projects you have more interest in: I'm currently in the process of learning PHP so I may make my own dynamic site for my photography... that and working on a short story that gets less and less "short" by the week...
Online photoshop contests are fun too:)
Unless my brain is still scrambled from waking up... each one of those Compaq storage servers has a total of 666GB of storage... either someone over there has a sense of humor or we're close to the appocalypse:P
I've had a Nokia 3650 since October (they have a similar version but with a normal button layout for the numbers, if thats a turn off...)
And I've synced with iSync over Bluetooth plenty of times, not to mention used Salling's Clicker to control my Powerbook from my bed (good as a music/movie remote)
The battery life is good, but the other stuff kinda drains it quick. If you leave bluetooth on 24/7 you'll be lucky to get two days out of a battery, less if you take a lot of pictures on top of it. But Bluetooth also drains my powerbook's battery a lot too, so I think it's just Bluetooth, not the phone's fault. But it can easily make it thru a day without a charge and actually charges fairly quickly, in about an hour.
Plus when I'm on a train or in a boring lecture I pull out the phone and play Doom 1 shareware on it. There's so many cool programs for it I had to upgrade the 16MB MMC card it comes with!
Definately worth the cash if you get it, and most places nowadays have it for cheap, if not free with a new plan (I have mine with T-Mobile, not a single problem yet, unlike my Sony Ericsson T68i)
hmmm... I've killed two PC laptops in my days... two powerbooks, one a first gen 400Mhz G4 powerbook, which was known for "issues" and a new 1.25Ghz powerbook... and they're still going strong. I fail to see how Apple is not better made. And so there was a bad batch of logic boards in iBooks. They replace them, warranty or not. The iPod battery fiasco was people wanting free battery replacements AFTER the warranty expired. I fail to see that as an "issue" besides people who can't handle the concept that hardware fails. How they handle it UNDER WARRANTY is what matters. If you didn't buy the extended warranty, or you did and it outlasted that... what gives you the right to complain about it?
WASHINGTON, DC- Homeland Security official Tom Ridge came out publicly today to raise the alert level to red. "We have detailed information that the al-queda terrorist network plans to fly the sun into the white house. We will not allow this to happen. I mean, if anyone is gonna use the sun as a weapon, you can damn sure it's going to be us. In case of a solar attack, you can protect yourself with duct tape and sunscreen."
well, a good friend of mine at Rutgers mounted his dish to the top of his school provided dresser, which was at the perfect height for the window, with nothing more than half a roll of duct tape. I'll be damned if that thing moved, since there was no wind... it was a nice setup, and it made me realize how much I miss HBO and such, which is not offered in the on-campus cable channel selection...
As you've clearly never worked in a retail store (I was stuck working the electronics section (or "business machines" department.. heh what a joke)), I had a older gentleman walk up and ask me "So this scanner comes free when I buy that printer over there?" "The HP (I forget the model number)? Yes. But only if you buy that model." "Oh, ok."
The man proceded to roam the aisle looking at the various printers and scanners... I went off to help other customers. After about 10-15 minutes I got called to the front desk. The man had the scanner that was free after the printer purchace, but instead of the $180 HP printer required, he had a $40 Lexmark printer and he was arguing that I said that the scanner came free with ANY printer. I said that wasn't the case, even repeated the HP model number and pointed to the large stack of the printer that was sepperate from ANY other printer on the sales floor.
So fsck you and your "confusing ads" BS. People are sniveling, coniving piles of shit that wouldn't know their ass from a hole in the ground and expect other people to suffer for it. And the Staples I worked at was the nationwide leader for back to school sales two years in a row. I've seen the largest cross section possible for Staples, and when you walk thru those automated doors into a Staples... just know I already hate you (and I haven't worked there in three years...)
I agree on the MSI thing. Saw them live when they came to Jersey. Had milk poured on me then watched the singer pee into a cup and pour it on a group in the crowd (thankfully not me) as his finale...
Uhm. I have a Sony Discman, a fairly thin, compact and round device. It's line out port is an optical out and a regular mini-jack as well. My Sony MiniDisc player has a Line-In/Out that is mini-jack/optical too. Apple ain't the first, but they may have the best application of it.
I was thinking the same thing as you, until I noticed one thing. If you're using one of the base models, it IS cheaper, but to upgrade the specs it's more expensive as a developer, so if you're going to be adding HDs, RAM or a Superdrive, compare the two before you compare. Might not be worth the $99 for the discount... just a friendly hint.
Wow Jon. I'm 110% serious when I say I never noticed it in the two years I've been working at ResNet with you (this is A.J.)...
See you at work sometime...
Oh yes, I'm sure driving through the snow with a bunchload of groceries is fun on a cycle, if not completely impossible. Don't get me wrong, I like motorcycles, but primary form of transportation they do not make. Ever try to be designated driver when you own a bike? Yeaaahhh. No.
Fully agreed. I want my two hours and $8.50 back.
I believe the goal of the slot is if you rip out the lock, it'll permanently damage the chasis and shell, thus making it unsellable, thus making it less a target, not making it "unstealable"
Holy fuck I haven't laughed this hard in ages, if I had mod points, you sir, would be SWIMMING IN THEM.
They DID do something new after Doom 2... Quake...

oh yes, I get things done. I'm ahead of schedule in fact.
I currently have the same problem as you. I VNC into my box at home and do stuff. Browse torrent sites, etc... I meant Athlon64. Instead of Athlon MP and Athlon XP it's now Athlon 64 and Opteron...
Never been to Jersey eh? Don't worry, I won't hold it against you... :P
actually SMP is the MAIN reason behind the Athlon and Opteron split. No Athlon SMP, sorry.

Cheer up, emo kid!
Agreed. la la la.. I'm not taking enough time to send this message, la la la
