Actually arthouse theatres are the only ones I still visit, for the same reasons you mentioned. I already posted with 4 kids i cannot justify to go to the big movie theatres anymore. I rather spend the money into a decent tv/blu ray equipment once they reach the movie age (they are not there yet) The price hikes in the recent past really make a good home theatre equipment affordable compared to going to the movies several times per year with several persons, the experience is also nicer at home than in one of those run of the mill multiplex cinemas. Arthouse cinemas are a different story, fair ticket prices, good food, cozy , good movies you dont feel ripped off afterwards like you feel after watching the latest hype movie. I really love them. My city (200.000 citizens) fortunately has two of them.
They have inflated the prices over here as well, 3D price hikes finally finished to nail the coffin for me. I now have two kids, and I cannot justify to go to the theatres anymore. Id rather spent some money on a big screen 3d tv and a decent blu ray equipment once my kids come into the movie age. The costs for tickets are hilarious. If you want to watch a normal movie it is 14 USD over here and if you wanna see it in 3d it is 20 USD. Now you spend about 80 USD for a four people family add to that maybe 10 USD for the snacks (probably more) and you are close to 90-100 USD. For 500 USD you are in for entry 3d TVs which going to the movies five!!! times. Go about 10 times with your kids and wife there and you can buy a decent blu ray equipment with a PS3 as Blu Ray drive.
There simply is no way to justify to go to the movies anymore. It even is way cheaper just to wait a few months and then rent the movie. I simply wonder why anyone still goes.
It comes down to Stress. The Months October til early-mid decemer are the most stressful throughout the year when everyone wants to finish everything before the christmas new year period. More stress means more buggy code due to the creative work involved in coding and software design generally.
Jepp and thats exactly what I wrote to the Gnome people after the gnome 3 fiasco. They should stop trying to please non existent users which never will use their desktop at all but should make the life easier for their own users. Btw. i switched back to KDE. KDE 4.7 really is a very nice desktop.
Yes they paid Nokia, it is a well known fact that Microsoft paid Nokia 2 billion dollars for using WP7, I guess the contract also must have had a bury Meego clause in it. And yes the N9 is one of the best smartphones in existence, thats why pretty much everyone in europe is pissed that Nokia upfront buried that phone.
Actually the feedback was quite interesting, from about 100 messages, about 2 or so were positive on the average. The problem is, will gnome really improve to please its users. In KDE the criticism was mostly stability and missing functionality from KDE 3.5. KDE itself now has addressed both issues and the DE really is a joy to use, but they have yet to get the users back. The Gnome 3 desaster helped to get them back to some degree but not all of them came back even now that there is a desktop option which lets you switch KDE 4 into a 3.5 like desktop mode. A user once lost is a user hard to gain again.
Gnome has bigger problems, first of all the biggest one is the stubbornness of the gnome devs which even after years ignore valid criticism. Secondly some parts of the usability are flawed and to fix that they have to change the metaphor. For instance, the first thing which put me off was the lack of a real desktop, all the space was lost for me. Having a desktop is the reason why I chose a desktop over a window manager and the lack thereof is a big no go for me. Secondly the minimizing, this could be easily addressed, thirdly the entier usability handling with the left hand side introduces additional steps for simple tasks like opening a program hence this should be optional not enforced. The list can be extended with dozends of other things. Most of them can be fixed, but only if the Gnome guys come off their high horses and at least admit to themselves that they fucked up majorly. (Same goes for Apple btw. with Lion which in my opinion is a screwed up release in some aspects where apple was to stubborn)
Actually why do you hate KDE4, I am currently using version 4 because of the dreadful usability of gnome, and I find it quite enjoyable, you even can switch to a classical kde 3.5 like desktop interface if you want (it is predefined as one of the deskop settings you can switch to in the latest SuSE). The desktop is fast and stable for me and it still is a desktop.
I guess most of the hatred for KDE 4 stems from the version 4.0-4.3, 4.7 which is the current one is really a nice desktop.
Ahem I am a kde4 user and i cannot find a strait jacket, actually by today the desktop is quite good, the early versions were buggy and missed stuff from kde 3.5 but now I cannot see anything lacking, and the desktop itself is awesome.
Actually the diesel cars over here have usually depending on the size of the car a performance of 4-6 liters per 100km. Not to shabby, but the newer ones have some hybrid techniques in like stop automatic which turns the engine off if you come to a standstill and brake energy recovery. That is without being hybrids. The table turns around at long distances where hybrids fail and where the power consumption of hybrids go way up. Then the diesel is more efficient.
They are not in the same ballpark as a real hybrid but not that far off either for short distances. The downside is newer diesels have exhaustion filters in which need 10-15 minutes of driving at constant speed (60-80 kmh) to clean themselves out in regular intervals, which is a problem for people who use their car simply in stop and go situations (like going small distances for shopping)
To bad that the Serenity movie suffered the problem of many post show movies. It was not good. As much as I loved the show but the movie simply was not the show anymore. The actors partially were not into the role anymore, the script did not have the vibe of the shows anymore, and to the worst, the part of Morena Baccarin (which was my favorite on the show) was cut down to a minimum and she was not able to get into her role anymore. Classical fate of a post show movie. I would have loved to see Firefly live more than one movie, but the movie simply did not cut it to justify another one.
Every phone so far that has attempted to be a gaming console has been a failure.
Tell that to Apple and Nintendo and Sony Actually iOS devices are hitting Nintendos core market really hard, and sonys latest XPeria game phone also was quite successful. Successful enough that Sony bought out the Ericsson part of its phone division, probably to tie the future phones more into the playstation line.
Actually the same you said in your last sentence was used for the argumetn why cellphone gaming was not taking off a few years ago. Any why cellphones never be a problem for portable consoles. There always is the tipping point where a multi purpose device is considered by the public to be good enough. People love to have less devices.
Actually the pc situation has mostly come to a standstill, I am now on a 4 year old mid range graphics card and still can play most modern games if not all. The money I saved thanks to cheaper PC games over the last 4 years compared to the consoles is a lot. Most people do not take the game prices into the equation and still think you have to upgrade your graphics gear twice per year.
Actually the biggest problem for those companies is their Microsoft lockin. There still is a shitload of applications which is ie6 only which they currently fight to get at least towards modern browsers. Add to that the Sharepoint and Exchange lockin and you are in a big mess. Having Word only documents adds to that mess. Compared to that security is a smaller issue now add a user who does neither have word nor any other Microsoft software on his pad and then suddenly out of the blue expects that everything works like expected. Now you tell him that Microsoft never adheres to standards and his pad does and you are in a big mess.
Actually you are wrong, the ARM has nothing to do with the Motorola 68K it was a development on its own specifically designed for the Acorn Risc Computers. After Acorn went down ARM went independend and tried to survive by the nieches Intel left over. The nieches now have become mainstream.
I am not sure why Apotheker was hired first place. He screwed up majorly at SAP and was universally hated there until the company founder gave him the boot after a short period of time.
Hat a good 2 years run, that is more or less the standard for updates nowadays. Apple also supports its iDevices mostly only two years. I was aware of this when I bought the N1 1 1/2 years ago and I am fine with it. Lets see what the modders can do, but for now I am perfectly happy with it running on Cyanogen Mod 7 and if that one is the last Android version the device will get, then I am perfectly happy with it. (Btw. the Nexus s is currently dirt cheap for people who want to upgrade)

Ashton Kutcher still lives :-)

want your kid to be beaten up by the school bully, then give him a nokia windows mobile 7 phone.

Certain US companies will happily step in.
You should answer, if the car can cope well on a german Autobahn with no speed limits then it also can run on shoddy use highways :-)

outside of that, webkits html development tools are still inferior to firebug.
doubt it, switching the default search engine is just two clicks away.

I definitely could not for work, not even with a keyboard. However I enjoy the tablet for 80% of the time I used to use a computer.
