The price really is an issue, given the fact that the version which really has anything you need even as a home user is vista ultimate, this thing is a price hike of 100% or even more.
Vista home is a joke, who on earth came to the idea that it was wise to add a backup function and then once you want to restore the backups you have to buy ultimate, this person should be immediately fired. I am not sure if such a thing is legal, but it is on the boundaries of screwing your own customers in the ****
The USA has an army of laywers which will sue god for not adhering to intellectual property laws and to patent laws. So no worries, if somebody outside of the USA will make research progress god will be sued...:-)
Ok I correct myself the only app you are allowed to develop is a webapp, not what I would call interesting app development.
No J2ME no Flash, No Java no ObjectiveC no way to utilize the phones potential except having html user interfaces and some kind of app server behind it:-)
If this thing is DOA, no app development, and a lot of other lock in restrictions. I am not sure who the customers of those things should be the technical crowd definitely is not. And lots of other usual apple customers probably are shied away by the contract enforcements connected to this thing.
I assume it will be the crowd who wants to have the latest shiny toy. I am not sure if this thing will be able to stand on its own after some initial success. Apple could have had a winner on this thing if they wouldnt have played Sony or Nintendo in trying to lock the user of this thing down!
It probably will come down to how fast the thing will be hacked open!
Actually Windows development nowadays is: Write the app under Mozilla, because Windows does not develiver any decent browser tools by its own, test the thing, against ie7 do some minor adjustments in the CSS and then start to test against IE6. Add another 90% of development time to get that dreck running under ie6 and then most of the times be done with it.
If you have to support even older ie versions, then seriously rethink your designes, throw away most of the CSS (or dont even start with it)
Most developers under Windows I know never ever use the IE as primary browser development platform, they use it as layout testing platform once things run properly on moz! Having to use IE to debug a website, or javascripts or simple CSS is the worst you can do timewise!
The thing should not replace Firefox or the IE, it is just a test kit for the cancer of cell phones the iphone.
Since apple espressively disallows any local development of applications for the mac, the users have to design...
Now swallow a little bit, ajaxed webapps to get the functionality they need, no applets, no local phone java, no objective c or any other language nothing. (Well applets maybe, but nothing hints into that direction for now, which is a bummer but Apple still has no final jdk6 so go figure)
So now we have to write that dreck for business purposes (webapps are the worst way to write a decent ui and generally application) we now also have to use that dreck to write apps for a phone.
To the worst, his Highness Stevie the first said this is a very modern way to write applications.
I just say, this is the way you write applications like in the mid 70s now enforced on the next technological platform where it should not appear!
Dont get me wrong, I am a committer myself to one of those numerous thousands of webapp frameworks. But that does not make my opinion of writing webapps as the worst way of having to write an application any better!
More... there should be a clear incentive not to settle against the riaa, after all million dollar lawsuits for consumer good related damages helped a lot... The same should go for the RIAA, they sue people for millons of dollars of questionable real value, I personally think a fine which really hurts them, and with really I mean seriously hurts them is appropriate! After this fine a few hundred thousand get rich quick crooks will hunt the riaa and out of court settling will be much harder than it used to be!
Actually no not really, Castle Wolfenstein 3d although later than Ultima Underworld (and technically subpar compared to it) was unique so was Ultima 7, Myst also was unique, The Sims didnt have a prequel up until the mid eighties when the little computer people project was the first of its kind. Zelda had no real predecessor except maybe for Temple of Asphai (but both titles were in development parallely) Mule, Seven Cities of Gold, Simcity (the original), Pirates, etc... the list of innovative highly successful games is very long, the main problem is, the chances are way higher nowadays if you do something innovative, that it already is covered, than they used to be 15 years ago.
Problem GM mainly has is, that it is always easier to build bigger stronger cars, but getting fuel efficiency is not anything you can do over night. So even if they want to shift they cannot do it instantly. It took european car manufacturers ages to get their diesel engines down to the consumption and exhaustion levels they are now. And dont ask how long Toyota was researching on hybrid systems.
Main problem is GM has a european division, Opel that is, but those were never the ones doing a lot of research into engine efficiency, they just built small affordable cars. And it is true, whining does not help at all, what is congress supposed to do?
Ahem.. russia already is almost G8, it is G9 as for now, as for the cyber warfare, heise recently posted the results of the investigation, it could not be traced back to the russian government, it was traced back to a lot of rootkits some being hosted in the kremlin.
Unfortunatly (I live in western europe btw.) there are more issues to all this than our own side.
First of all the situation in Lithuania is not that easy, this country has a high russian population and has not given them full citizen rights (yes those are still sort of foreigners) secondly the entire thing was a very complicated issue.
Russia currently plays tough politics, but the entire anti missile thing is kindof stupid, nobody really wants it except bush and the governments of Tzechia and Poland, if you talk with the people, they rather want to have peace and want to be left out of anything.
And add to that the fact that the russian elections are upfront, while the Putin side not really has any opponent it is still elections, which means everyone goes haiwire
(dont ask if there is not an inside battle between various putin successors going on, it sounds like it from the outside view)
and the entire anti missile thing, is perfect fuel into the ongoing preelection process, to ride upon.
If all of this would have happened in a saner manner a year later the tone probably would have been entirely different, Putin is a very smart man, but also very tough. You can deal with him if you are upfront honest, start upfront to talk with him and integrated him, but not the way the entire thing was started (We place it there no discussion, wee feed it upon you who cares, we are Americans!!!)
So no wonder the G8 summit in germany has lots of Riots upfront, everything the Bush administration touches, causes the next trouble, this guy has the tendency to revert perfect peace into the next war out of plain stupidity and arrogance!
The current situation between russia and the EU is not easy, but also not evil, but pushing fuel into a heated area like the US currently does does not help.
He spoke generally of sinners, but read it again, there are lots of quotes where he despised the rich. First the famous camel quote, then the rich guy who asked him what he had to do to get into heavens etc...
I am not sure how many of the protestant churches came to the conclusion that earning lots of money is a christian thing, it is totally in opposite of the message in the bible.
Good explanation wrong conclusion. Parallel programming is a bitch, but part of the problem is the language you apply to the problem.
Parallel programming is bread and butter every day in java, most people dont even notice too much that they are in a parallel environment. The reason, you do not have to fight constantly with the language.
The same applies to perl, and other scripting languages.
You still have to fight with locks ciritical regions etc... if you go down to the core, but given the fact that all of this is nicely integrated into the language makes things way easier.
On a normal level once you have left the lower layer of those systems you normally dont even think about those issues anymore because most of the times you work in a single thread where the server parallels everything the low level (servers and operating systems have a lot in common that way)
Well... lets have a look, he would go into the areas where hookers and gangs resided, his followers probably would be a bunch of hippies, ex gang people having split from their old gangs, small people probably out of work. In the long run his followers probably would be a mix of all people you can find (but most of them definitely not drawn from the so called religious groups, more along the lines of ordinary, average people)
His opponents, the religios rightwings, the churches generally probably (well parts of them they probably would be split over him), the corporations definitely, and probably drug lords and others as well. Life expectancy, 2-5 years, probably three years. Other option he would go down in a huge trial of founding a terrorist organisation and trying to overtrhow the current administrations (sounds familiar?) with expected result.
Wrong you are my young troll...
Seriously, the wii just got multiplayer with super mario strikers in europe, it is somewhat flakey yet (seems like they did not learn a lesson from the ds)
but it works...
Yes exactly that was my point and the killers would be the same, the religious zealots in combination with those who have money and power (usually both groups are heavily interwined with each other)
Funny thing is under McCarthy he would probably have been dragged in front of the tribunal as being a hardcore communist:-)
China, is not G8 (soon they will be however) nevertheless, China has huge environmental problems, but the government is aware of it. It is running through the same phase western europe ran in the 60s when the environmental problems became so severe that something had to be done.
Chinas advantage is the government while not being democractic also is not plutocratic (like the US and western Europe nowadays is), they have the power to pull this off. I assume in about 15 years chinas environmental problems will be under control.
As for western europe, I am from there, I would not give a rats ass on our governments words, we are just in a better position regarding environmental protection but in the end our governments dont care about the envioronment either, it just is more popular to ride that trainwaggon. The EU is the same sellout as the US government and the higher you get the worse it becomes.
While democracy in the EU works pretty well on local level, it already is bad on state level, but still there. On country level it is more or less not there anymore, but at least it has the umbrella of being democratic, and on EU level you have to argume if this is a democracy at all. From a classical standpoing, definitely not, it is more like the roman empire which also still had a pseudo parliament in place an a non elected leader.
The leader just has been replaced with a non elected commission and bureacrats left and right.
Add to that that there is the circle of ministers which basically goes a long way towards ruling against their own bosses (people) and then once they have to justify their sellout laws they blame them on the EU.
After all you end up with a half finished country and a complete mess, that is what European governments within EU boundaries are!
I dont know when democracy really has died, but I assume it must have died in the USA in the 1880s, everything afterwards, cannot really be stamped democracy as in the people are the ultimate governers and bosses of their own countries.
50 of those will be japan only, 310 will come to the US, Europe and Australia will get exactly one game with about one year delay.
>Bytecode compiled Ruby
Well that will happen way before 2009, the jruby guys probably will be the first.
But for the rest I agree.
Mac OSX Home Basic 129$
;-)
Mac OSX Home Premium 129$
Mac OSX Business 129$
Mac OSX Ultimate 129$
Ubuntu Home Basic 0$
Ubuntu Home Premium 0$
Ubuntu Business 0$
Ubuntu Ultimate 0$
A both OSes have home versions which allow restore of backuped Data...
For Vista you need Ultimate or Business to get restore functionality
Forever? Reminds me on Ultima 9...
The price really is an issue, given the fact that the version which really has anything you need even as a home user is vista ultimate, this thing is a price hike of 100% or even more. Mao is arguably the greatest mass murderer in history, it probably still is Stalin with Mao second and Hitler third...
Ahem not only poor people, taking public transport is a very common usage of transportation over here.
The USA has an army of laywers which will sue god for not adhering to intellectual property laws and to patent laws. :-)
So no worries, if somebody outside of the USA will make research progress god will be sued...

At a first glance I looked like this article was about the old Atari Game Alternate Reality the City...

Well if you read the text you can see that it is not because of low ratings...
