  6. You Can't Satisfy Nostalgia on Early Review Calls New Indiana Jones Film Dreadful · · Score: 3, Insightful

No movie can live up to what your brain remembers as one of the best movies ever made. If you go into the movie expecting it to be no less than the best of the first movie, then guess what, you will say it sucked. If you have realistic expectations though and are hoping it to be a decent movie without destroying the franchise then you at least are giving the movie a fair chance. It takes a lot of guts to revisit old and successful franchises such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones because you can't satisfy peoples nostalgia, even if the movie is one of the best ever made.

Nothing can match the feeling of seeing the movie with friends and family who may be gone now, or remembering a time in your life when things were better, we tend to forget the bad and remember the good, anything current simply can't compete with your memories all else being equal.

I agree, but the only reason flying is easier is there is almost no one flying, if everyone were flying only a central computer would be able to coordinate flight plans, especially around cities. Driving is cake because if anything goes wrong, there is only one thing you need to know and remember to do, step on the brake, there is no analogy in flying, if something goes wrong in a plane you better have your shit together or you are dead. Also thinking in 3 dimensions rather than 2 is much harder for most people, probably not anyone on this site, but for most people it isn't easy.

  12. The problem isn't the webpages on Do the Blind Deserve More Effort on the Web? · · Score: 1, Interesting

The problem is the shitty readers, a reader should be able to read any webpage that a person can see, but because of all the javascript, flash, and images that are prevalent now they probably don't work too well. They need to just render the page as an image, then put it through a OCR program, then read that, then the reader program works as a person does, by seeing and reading the page, not by hacking through the HTML.

Have the blind tried using mobile pages? They are much simpler and would be much easier for a reader I would think.

Until the blind come together and put their money where their needs are and build a program that works, the demand doesn't justify the cost. No soup for you I guess.

Pure robotic driving is too faulty, not because of controlling speed, but because of steering. Let the human do the hard part, steering, and the wireless road network (WRN)control the speeds of cars, basically a step up from cruise control.

This would even out traffic patterns, increase traffic flow, decrease accidents, and be very easy to implement on the roads, and more imporantly VERY easy to retrofit into any car with cruise control (an automated steering/camera system would not).

The system would benefit early adoptors by simplifing driving like cruise control, and once a certain percentage of the traffic flow had this system the benefits would effect the whole traffic flow and road system.

It would also be a great transition to fully automated driving systems for everyone.

If the 3 biggest powers in the tech world, MS, Yahoo, or Google can't even do it, what the hell makes you think anyone else is going to? And even if all of them build their own networks, the 99% of the rest of the internet is going to need an open network to use, so we will still need the telcos.

The only way any of the big content providors are ever going to have their own network is if its a wireless one, and due to the major federal regulations and licensing costs in doing so, even Google is having a hell of time trying to get it done, and even then how much internet activity is done wirelessly, not much.
