Yep. I was on a trip recently, and a friend of mine was having problems. Her 'computer guy' couldn't even get it to boot. I used an Ubuntu Hoary LiveCD to boot to a desktop. (hmm...mobo and CPU/memory are good...) I even showed her how to boot it. Verdict: Bad HD. Her 'computer guy' needs some better tools.
**CAUTION, THIS WILL VOID YOUR WARRENTY**
I managed to part that fit, AND with batteries fully charged...if you yank them out, you'll have 15 minutes to put them back in.This repair lasted 9 months, then failed again. i'm on my 2nd fix. As i recall, the part is cheap. Technically, the replacement is a battery, not a cap OK...it's a "polycenic semiconductor (PAS) polymer" and is item # G13133 at electronic goldmine (www.goldmine-elec.com) . 5/ $1 + shipping. You'll have to cut the leads to fit the spot where the old one comes out, and it's bigger, so you kinda have to lean it against the reset switch, but *IT WORKS*. There's a good site somewhere that shows ya what the inside looks like. You'll need a 5mm Torx to open it with. You're on your own now. DIY.
Mine's staying, to later become a weather station.
I thought all these die shrinks was supposed to *decrease* power consumption... IMHO this is just getting out of hand. My PC has a 350 watt supply (old Barton 2500+ w/ nVidia 4200 card), but i'm just not into building a A64/x800/ 500+ watt monster. I'd repackage what i have into a SFF box, and get a better card. My Mac Mini only draws 20 watts at the plug, and it makes a difference on the power bill not to run the PC. What next...a PC that draws as much as a hair drier? All that power gets converted to heat... Seriously...i'm looking for lower power and equal performance.
Is there something amiss with the Buster vs Tombstone vid? It goes to just under 1/2 way, then stops on an INCREADABLE shower of sparks, then quits. No doubt a great hit, but i wanna see the damage afterward. Great vids. Thanks.
This will just whet everyone's appitite for Dr Who. It's been a while since we in the US have seen any episode, let alone a new one. This will just prepare the fanbase here. Will the BBC blow it by not making a reasonable off to the US market remains to be seen. Will this air on BBC America? Will it be offered to PBS stations?
Ahem...this episode did not get off to a roaring start, but it does rate a 'let's see what happens over the next few episodes'.IMHO only. There is one aspect of the new series i don't like, but that'd spoil it for others.
Uh...did you see the news lately?? Tsunami? Well...all the cell sites in the affected areas are dead. guess what is the only link in or out? That's right...ham radio. Many of those areas don't have cell period.
Gentoo dumps you to a command line. There's a steep learning curve there i think. Ubuntu attampts (some more successfully than others) to get you thru the install process better. I ran into a glitch w/ Ubuntu's installer, but i did go and install Sarge. (similar installer). This distro has the potential to bring more people into the LINUX tent. I don't find a command line installation very friendly.
The installer can use a little tweaking...mine would stall right at the kernel. I d/l'd Debian 'Sarge' whch uses the same (w/o the tweaks) installer, and now i have Sarge working, even if it's Gnome 2.6, not 2.8.
Yep...i'd second this. I think eventually you'll find it's cheaper to buy new ones than to clean the old ones. When the time comes i want to see the listing on eBay for these things.
Wasn't it just last week that NASA said it has to collaborate with the private sector? OK...where are we going to get those people, India? We NEED hobbies like rocketry and model airplanes to train the next generation of scientists. If you belong to AMA, you can fly up to and including G size motors. There is a program called ARLISS that takes high school and university Coke (or beer) can sized payloads aloft on these bigger rockets being talked about in the wired article. There are your own personal goals, like going higher and faster, and there's the community of like minded individuals you can share beer with. Without this, we could become a 2nd class country... we don't even spend enough on research and development anymore.
and where do you think that hybred rocket engine in spaceshipone came from in the first place? From the model community, that's where.(google hypertek). Even Estes USED to make an E motor, and for a while made F motors as well. Take anything you read on the Estes site with a big grain of salt.
Let's outlaw those model jet motors too, after all, thise could be used to make pilotless drones. How about outlawing trucks and cars, those can be made into bombs too. People overseas do it every day.
Cracking down on your own citizens is NOT what is needed here.
Agreed. The thing is...with the ORIGINAL writing team...we CARED what happened. When AMCY bought them out, the writing went downhill, and never recovered. Pity. It was done well enough for me, and it was fresh and new at the time. The Spot begat Grapejam, which begat Entertainment Asylum, which begat Creative Light. At this point The Spot is cold (perhaps even frozen) pizza. Fortunately, i'm still friends with some of the original crew.
NOPE...you ARE thinking of Entertainment Asylem, a project that started as a AOL R&D type project, which AOL the took over and ruined.
The present Spot suffers from the same stuff as the old post AMCY Spot...
NOPE. The writing isn't there (again), and there is some revisionist history going on. The ORIGINAL Spot was one of the first things i got to point a browser at...and it was great till the REAL dot commers (american cybercast) bought them out, then it went downhill. This is just a rehash of the AMCY days. Some of the ORIGINAL people can be found at www.crlight.com .
"Can the Spot, a unique blend of soap opera, blog, and reality show, survive this time around, or is it doomed to end up back in the graveyard of failed websites in which it was first buried seven years ago?"
Treasure Planet 2. I think it's all downhill from here, as now everything must comply with the 'disney formula'.

The replacement i spec'd is rated at .6F @ 3v!! That's 3x the original.

But will it survive a Slashdotting? Nope... :)
insert obvious 'hosted on a Newton server' crack here...

Also http://monolithicdome.com . And...what about all those biuldings in the dragonball/z/gt series? Put 'Capsule Corp' on the side...

yep..i didn't look close enough...but that link does work :)) but the link we WANT *is* still fubar.
working now as of this post anyway...here we go...
not anymore... hope somebody put up a mirror.

It didn't become a corperate sham till AMCY bought it out. The original crew did it as an experiment, and a labor of love.

and the guys at MIT can't order, cause there's no bandwidth left :)
notice it skips a number as well? i GUESSING that there was another row of numbers, maybe in red, that has faded out over the years.
