NO ONE is okay with this. If people were to vote on the question - "who wants every detail of your life snooped by an evil megacorp 24/7/365 with no warrant, no suspicion, and no recourse?" - the overwhelming majority would vote "fuck no".

The only reason the iron boot of the police state hasn't already stomped Google is... that Google is de facto part of that police state.

The mountain of skulls resulted from the Leninist idea of the "dictatorship of the proletariat".

On one hand, we must recognize that Leninism _worked_, in the sense of successfully overthrowing several feudalist (or proto-capitalist) governments. On the other hand, it instituted a bunch of goddamned dictatorships. And we all know what happened with that.

Socialism - and even small-c communism - is not the same thing as Leninism. Many people believe there are evolutionary rather than revolutionary routes to socialism. The oft-cited examples are the European welfare states, which achieved a weak (and long term unsustainable, it seems) form of socialism - without piling up a mountain of skulls.

I know lots of small-c communists. None of whom think it would be a good idea to repeat the experience of the Soviet Union.

Keep repeating that your "credit score" only impacts your ability to get a loan. Maybe if enough people repeat that mantra, it will magically become true!

  19. "The only thing the US credit score affects is your ability to borrow money in all it's many forms."

It also directly affects one's ability to secure housing and employment.

China's social credit system may be worse, however let's not pretend our "credit score" system is anything but a form of neo-feudal totalitarianism.

  20. "It's also a form of caste system - born to parents of poor social credit will generally make you have poor social credit as well. And the ways to "get out" are extremely limited. When you're scraping the bottom of the barrel for today's meal, the options to increase your score are limited and you'll likely do things that reduce your score just to eat."

So pretty much just like the American "credit score" system. A little bit more invasive; but also a little bit more honest and open.
