Do you foresee adding first-class language support for immutable object variables? Something like Java's "final" for member variables. I understand that something could be done with a @decorator to implement this, but I'm interested in baked-in support.
Fwiw, Adobe already/has/ open-sourced Flex, the Flash framework that really makes Flash useful for developing RIAs (they haven't open-sourced their compiler, I don't believe, but all of the Flex ActionScript is available). I'm a Flash/Flex developer, and at least a few times a week I grep through their source code to figure out how to do something, or how to change something about a built-in component, etc. Adobe has also released a specification for their swf file format, available at http://www.adobe.com/devnet/swf/.
So, visually, the difference between this and the theatrical Wars prequels is that this is rendered in a lower resolution? Because, aside from the actors, most of the prequels were CGI anyway, so there's not much difference. Our only hope, as it were, is that this is better written.
WalMart may just have to find a way to support DRM'd WMA on Linux, or just ditch WMA all together, if their own music store wont work on their own cheap Linux PCs.
Imagine bing a WalMart customer, buying a WalMart Licoris PC- and not being able to buy music from WalMart's own online music store.
I never really understood the concept of "number of CD burns" restriction. Seems to me that if you could burn the audio tracks once to a CD, then you could just copy the copied CD, or rip the files to mp3 and do whatever you want with them.
The ability to burn DRM'd tracks, no matter what the burn number limitation could be the ultimate loophole in any form of DRM....
Running your own basic cable service wouldn't be that easy actually. First of all, if you were to distribute the channels across your community (which, you are) the dish would need to be fixed on one single satellite. Galaxy5 would be the one, because it has the most "cable" channels on it. Keep in mind that channels are spread across different satellites. Ok, so, now you'll have to go with a dual polarity LNB (one polarity for odd channels, and one for even) and then you would need to have 24 different receievers, because (at least with non-commercial equipment...) you can only descramble one channel at a time per receiver. Each receiver has one VideoCipher unit (descrambler), and you would have to have 24 different accounts with your satellite provider, because every single VC unit needs to be authorized, but mind you, you only need to subscribe to one channel per VC unit. So now that you have all of that, your 24 recievers hooked up, and subscriptions for 24 channels on 24 different VC units, you need to distribute this, which means running each receiver output to a modulator, so that you have CATV compatable channels, 1-24. Whew, ok, now you can distribute your Basic Cable service throughout your comminuty.
It's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day! It's a great big beautiful tomorrow, and tomorrow is just a dream away! Man has a dream, and that's a start! He follows his dream from mind to heart, and when it becomes a reality, it makes a better world for you and me! Oh it's a great big beautiful tomorrow, shining at the end of every day! It's a great big beautiful tomorrow, and tomorrow is just a day away!!
Is it just me, or does this story sound like the last stage of the "Carousel of Progress" in Disney World?
Hehe, that's gotta be one of my favorite "rides".:)
Tech TV has had a "Top 20" geek christmas list for a few weeks now. Good stuff-Told all of my friends to get it.
And don't tell me you can't get Tech TV, do like me, and be a dishhead! Tech TV is free on Satcom C4 Transponder 12!
If you think this is a good thing, which some of you may- its the same thing as requiring DRM to ship with new TV's, VCR's, PVR's, computers, etc.

any info on how i can open those Combination locks? Not that i want to get into the locks of my fellow classmates at Suburban High School or anything....
doesnt this sound a little contradictory? How can something that is good for buisness be bad for software vendors, which, last time i checked, software venders were a pretty large buisness. I'm not saything that I dont agree with what the author has to see, I just think the article could have been worded a bit differently.
Who knows? Maybe President Bush wants to leave a legacy... All he has to do is get on TV with some fancy flags behind him and tell us all how much he and his administration support this bill, and how its up to us as americans to strive forward to Mars, or something like that. Hey, well all know the line from Kennedy, "we choose to go to the moon in this decade...", perhaps bush wants a legacy and will help push this thing forward. Or not.

Silverlight 1.1 runs on Intercontinental Ballistic Missiles? Well, that is certainly worrisome.
An OO interface to MySQL? Can you elaborate, as I've never seen this mentioned anywhere.

I always wondered what a Quake 3 map would look like in real life... :)
:)
For those of you who map, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Yup, they still do this- happened to my mom recently.
