To complement your astute comments, Id like to paraphrase the wise words of Bill Mahr: "You know the bank can keep track of every cent of your money, but somehow with a vote, its too difficult."
I'd like to advance a conspiracy theroy -- that the voting systems are made deliberatly horrible so they are easily tampered with.
Actually its true. There are a few rare circumstances where a share behaves slightly different. For instance, the single EXE nav2002 install wont install from a share.
My sig is just trolling for conservatives:) Anyone under 30, who can't find a job out of college, or is making 9$ an and paying of $30k of student loans says "Damn Straight!" Everyone with a mortage says WTF and sometimes one of them replies:)
``accidently'' erase or corrupt vital documents on your last day, the possibilities seem endless
I have heard tales of great men, who made a cron job that would destroy their computer and source code at 10:00am every monday morning -- unless they were there to stop it.
Fight club is a gorgeous piece of film making. It's dystopian fiction at its finest and a brilliant moment in American cinema, and yes it is violent. But its not violent for the sake of violence or to excite. The violence is symbolic of the disconnect the men feel from American society which is dominated by feel good female-emotions. For real life info about this phenomenon, read The War Against Boys.
You know it really depends on the area. In my town (Hemet, CA) the Arco's have the cheapest gas (by almost 10c!) but in the city 30 miles down the 60 freeway (Riverside, CA) the Mobil stations are cheaper, and the Arcos are 5 - 10c more... I don't know why, but I;m sure it has to do with oil monopoly shenanigans.
I think the worst offender was yoda, "Only a Jedi could have erased those files." I really don't know where to begin with whats wrong with that sentence.
hmmmmm, here in california "AMPM" gas stations the last few yeares have started installing kiosks in the islands which take cash or credit. People *LOVE* them. Everyone hates going into the store and waiting in line behind a bunch of idiots to buy gas.
I was really hoping the mobil speedpass would take off as I found it to be really conveniant....you think exxon mobil, the most profitable company in the world would have the juice to make the speedpass a standard, but no go so far.
I love you man. I have said that *1000* times and been moded a troll every last time. Apple can only do the things Apple does because THEY ARE APPLE. In a post where I was modded a troll, I said "Only Nixon can go to China" and "Only Apple can sell consumer electronics at 135% of market value."
People who buy Apples are the same irrational fanboys that line up to see LOTR a week early, soupe up their hondas with R-Type stickers, or dragon ball z fans. Except, Apple fanboys are more intelligent and they know it. , They consider themselves to be the enlightened ones, the elite, the vanguard. But we know:)
Anyone know enough about the IPOD architecture to say if it would be possible to fix up this linux to play OGGs? All I want for xmas is a cool MP3 player that plays mp3s and oggs:)
You just got a friend. YOU GET IT. Record companies want to have their cake and eat it to. That's business -- they want to give you the least possible for the most money possible. The law says you have fair use rights, so they do an end run with the encryption stuff.
And the Made In China labels are there because Unions drove up the cost of manufacturing so high, it made more economic sense to move off-shore than to stay within the US. U.S. Steel ring a bell?
You have about half a clue stick, lets take a look at the other half. Chinese labor is cheap because THE EMPLOYEES ARE SLAVES. Largely they are forced to work by the communist state, yes, China is a communist state, remember?
Spoken like someone without a grasp of what can sometimes cause overtime to occur in a retail environment.
Spoken like lower management who doesn't know how business works:) The problem is not that workers refuse to work overtime, its they won't do it for free. Overtime pay is supposed to be an incentive NOT to overwork your employees. Every place I've ever worked for (from, subway, to walmart, to universities after I got my degree) have had the same policy, "We do not pay overtime."
Here's why. Say you own a trucking company, and theres a long stretch of road called "interstate 1" where the speed limit is 55MPH. For arguments sake, lets say the road is 55 miles long. Said trucking company wants to lower costs -- they want drivers to traverse the road quicker. Now, how to write the company policy for that?
Statement 1: "Drivers will maintain an average speed of 75 MPH on interstate 1."
Statement 2: "Drivers will take no longer then 40 minutes to traverse interstate 1."
Whats the difference? Statement 1 is ordering employees to commit crimes -- civil and criminal penalties may ensue. Statement 2? The implication is that employees should break the law to meet the companies demands -- much harder argument for a prosecuter to make.
Its the *EXACT* same thing with the overtime rule, the rule is designed to force managers to shave time. They can't say "Shave time" so they give a strict limit on how many hours the store pay which is far below the number actually needed. If a manager refuses to shave time, then fire him and find someone who will.
As far as tricks, this one is old school. What i've been seeing alot of lately, is companies compensating employees with comp time, but then refusing to ever allow employees to use the comp time. It's a much better scam because its very hard to prove you had no intention of allowing them to use their comp time. If an employee insists, just fire them, oops their comp time is gone to:)

I know its bad taste to reply to my own message, but I'd like to add to my own arguement, and say that MS is primarly responsible for the glut of stupid users. They promoted the idea that you shouldn't have to know anything to use a computer. If you're too stupid to use a computer its not your fault, its all those eggheads.
Whats the result? Users don't even *crack* manuals open, they expect just to be a genius at anything they try. Then software companies realized "hey, nobodys reading these manuals" and they cut costs by stop including them altogether.
When they do include a manual they're terrible. I purchsed a Dell Axim x3i lately. It came with a 200 page manual that's WORTHLESS (and I have a CS degree). I wanted to know if I could sync the device over TCP (the answer is yes, but only if I connect to a windows machine first with the same SMB name as my linux machine grrrrr) -- the manual has no information of any kind on it. Just dry lists of "How to setup feature X", doesn't even mention the purpose or the reason for setting up X, or what it can do. Just the steps to do it with no information...
Long story short, if I'm confused with a CS degree, who isn't? The companies that stell us this stuff encourage ignorance, theres not a place to learn!
people who know, and want to know nothing about computers
I hate Apple with a passion so I'd really like to agree with you... but Windows claim to fame was it was easy to use compared to DOS. The thought was now that users don't have to manipulate the command line, more people would be able to do more with computers.
Remeber the two things they sold Windows 95 on? It's easy to format a disk, and easy to install programs. They lowered the bar but users as a whole responded by becoming even stupider. You know how many millions of windows users out there can't do either of those things? -- LET ALONE -- update their virus defs, craft a reasonable firewall policy, and update their machine on a regular basis.
Ehh, I'll give you blurred, but they also look dull to me, like someone dialed down the hue and contrast. You can always tell a PS2 screenshot because everything looks like its a shade of grey.
Who modded this crap up? Read the FUCKING article. Real people are *hiding their private information* by putting up fake information -- The snail mail addresses of known spammers.
Its true, but its a stupid thing to say. By your logic, every car ever was basically an imitation of the first car. Every cell phone is an imitation of the first cell phone.
Linux wasn't the first UNIX and it isn't the last.
We're giving Sony wayyyyy too much credit. Who gives a crap about Sony's press releases and hype about future gaming systems? Wasn't it just last year they were saying the PS3 would have 1000 processors in it and would use spare computational cycles from your toaster and what not?
My point is, Sony has a history of saying stupid things about their future consoles. Remember the hype about the ps2? Did the ps2 really ever live up to the hype? Is it just me or are colors on the PS2 dull?
I'd like to advance a conspiracy theroy -- that the voting systems are made deliberatly horrible so they are easily tampered with.
Muhahahahha keep thinking that!
Intersting, are you saying it is by design then? or just a quirk? not quite sure from your message
Actually its true. There are a few rare circumstances where a share behaves slightly different. For instance, the single EXE nav2002 install wont install from a share.
Linux good, outsource baddddd!

Does anyone doubt our country is run by facists?

My thoughts as well ... can you imagine something that matters LESS then windows installer?
You have about half a clue stick, lets take a look at the other half. Chinese labor is cheap because THE EMPLOYEES ARE SLAVES. Largely they are forced to work by the communist state, yes, China is a communist state, remember?
The basis of a free market economy is that companies are forced to compete on an "equal" playing field. Slave labor>/a> is not an equal playing field.
