    If I had to pick an operating system to power a motorcycle I am driving at 140 mph, I think I would have to pick BSD. Windows is too complex to be good at simple tasks, and Linux is too, well second rate.

    Penguin on a fork anyone?

    Sometime you have to assemble parts of the control panel and program it for the car you are about to wash. But once that part is out of the way it does in fact wash the car.

    Why would they? Once the aliases are sold and resold, what can AOL really do to recover them?

    Mr. Spammers, please delete all @aol.com email addresses in you list, yeah right!

    My girlfriend recently recovered an account that has not been active in 3 1/2 years, it still gets flooded with spam despite 3 1/2 years of not existing.

    I doubt AOL users will be much better off unless they want to create a new alias.

    Should we build big satellites and listen to space in case Aliens are broadcasting research advancements in a format that we are able to decipher, or skip the middle process and just put the effort into research?

    We could use a similar setup to automate patrolling the skies for meteors that are likely to impact earth.

    Such an impact would be difficult to prevent near earth, but further away we could probably divert the course of the object by .01 degrees with a missile that would move it far enough off course to avoid impacting earth.

    For example, look at some of the useful tasks performed by some of the machines on the top500 list. I don't have the SETI client installed, but if there was a distributed computing effort that needed my computers to calculate things like effects of pollution or global warming then I would be willing to jump in and help out.

    RTFA, the DoCoMo technology said they can exchange data between people at up to 10 meg. The DoCoMo tech lets users exchange email address and "buisness card" data with a handshake. Cool stuff.

    BTW did you know that Intel powers 286 of the supercomputers in the top 500 list? 3 years ago Intel had only 3 systems on the list.

    And to elaborate on this look up info on the APFSDS (or Sabot, pronounced say-bo) 120mm tank round. Pretty much just a big fast dart. Picture a train going 60 mph hitting something with the impact area of a dime. You'd need some pretty good armor to stop it.

    With Linux it won't install the DRM, but it won't make any difference because because your sound card does not work with Linux anyway.

    A few points: $150 is reasonable for a motherboard, the above listed processors are likely to run closer to $450 and $900.

    If 6 minutes of your time is worth $300 - $750 then you obviously make way more than I do.

    AMD is going to start using the same technology. When Intel does it, it is a pain in the ass, when AMD does it, it's innovation.

    Besides, you have to be pretty careless with your hardware to break a pin.

    Sometimes I work long hours, I once went 5 months getting on average 4 hours of sleep per night (for Salary). The first advice I have here is to spend at least 20 minutes a day to stay in shape, you will find you need less sleep (by 1 or 2 hrs) of you are in shape.

    Second, I am one of those people that can nod off for 5 minutes and be good to go for at least the next few hours no matter how much sleep I didn't get the night before.

    A "power nap", I don't often take them on company (or government) time but sleeping during a break or lunch break has pulled me through some pretty rigorous schedules.

    If you need to sleep to get through your 8 hour day at work, you don't need to sleep at work, you need to go for a jog when you get out of work.

    Currently my main desktop computer is Linux, I'm gunna give the gedit plugin a go when I get home from work.

    As far as emacs vs vi, I have always used vi from a CLI, but neither one of them are really suited for what I am looking for.

    The only one feature I use in MS Office or OpenOffice on my home desktop is spell check. The main problem I have with OO.o being slow to start is that I am never using it for longer than 5 seconds. If I had an ASCII gedit or notepad (spellpad) with spell check I wouldn't even need an office suite on my home desktop.

    Sure many people use them for more then that, but you might be suprised how many don't
