I'd rather cripple my hardware with Windows than run an atheist OS on it. Particularly post-9/11, these things ought to be a lot more important to us.
First, as the poster pointed out, Bill Gates is also agnostic, so Windows is not an option for you either.
Second, that hard-line us-and-them view of things and general lack of acceptance of another's beliefs or culture is one of the very things responsible for the events that occurred on that day. To point at the _agnostics_ and scream enemy over 9/11 is hardly a manner to go about things. You have to be acceptant of others beliefs before you can expect them to be acceptant of yours.
We're a lot
more likely to make PAGE_SIZE bigger, and generally praying that AMD's
x86-64 succeeds in the market, forcing Intel to make Yamhill their
standard platform. At which point we _could_ make things truly 64 bits
He wants hammer to succeed only so Intel will have to go 64 bit and they can go all out 64 bit, this is not Linus picking the AMD camp. usernet post here
With all the huge companies and brilliant minds behind Linux I can't believe there is such a huge lack of alternatives for distributing and installing software. Such an alternative would both make things much easier on the end user and free up developer time. IMHO, this is currently #1 item on the whine list.
I know in some areas it is illegal to have car audio systems that are too loud, I would guess this will be misused as soon as it goes mainstream. I know that is the first thing I would do with it. I can picture sitting on a park bench fsck'ing with joggers. It would be kind of freaky to have someone whisper at you standing in the middle of a field. I wonder if anyone will decide to check themselves into a mental institution based on this technology.
"I believe you're knocking XFree86 here, and not Linux"
You show me better Linux alternative to XFree86 and I will agree with you. Currently that's like saying "you are bashing windows explorer, API, hardware compatibility, and desktop, not windows"
I don't think it would be practical to scrap XFree86, but a fork without support for remote desktop or backwards compatibility might be interesting.
This goes back to MSFT's claim that Apple was not pushing OSX hard enough, which is partly the reason for all the apple switch ads. AppleWorks is no going down (there is still IE too), but Apple is exploring other options in case MS pulls out.
I think I liked Eliza better. For some cheap entertainment check out AOLiza. It's a list of some chat logs where some unsuspecting AIM users end up talking to Eliza.
I bought a shuttle bare bones system a while back for LAN gaming. I really like the system, it's quiet and about as large as my toaster, but I ended up replacing the C3 with something faster.
According to Mandrake they have been moving closer to claiming a profit. I believe they stated their loses for this last quarter were 1/4 of the previous. Reguardless, they are doing quite a bit better since the "help mandrake, subscibe as a user" article that was posted on/. just before the 8.2 release. The recent walmart deal will probably help some too.
* Image blocking for Mail & News has been implemented.
To me this one is most important because it prevents spammers from imbedding web bugs to see what email addresses are active.
ie you can refrence an image source to http://some.com/cgi-bin/mail-check.cgi?CmrTaco@mai l.com
and it does not take a 'reply remove' to know it's a valid email address.
Cool, I always figured OS X was monolithic. That sort of reminds me of the famous usernet debate between Linus and Andy Tanenbaun (MINIX) in 92 covering "microkernel vs monolithic systems". It was an interesting read, in I believe Linus stated "True, linux is monolithic, and I agree that microkernels are nicer."
Have you ever read through the AOLiza chat logs? It's a Perl port of Eliza (1966 project that simulates a psychoanalyst). Eliza is less advanced (not by much) than some of the other creations that competed for the Loebner Prize but what it's good at, is listening to people. Its amusing reading the conversation logs and some of the beans spilled (33) to it. I think a more complex version of it could make for some interesting research on human behavior. I also think the first forms of AI will could essentially be a database front end and assist humans in decision making.

PS. Interesting RPM rant here
Low volume distance. You can still hear music at a concert from the nose bleed section without killing the people in the front row.

I wonder if it will fit over top of the tinfoil hat I am wearing.

You read all 3 pages of that in time to make the 4th post to /.? What is you clock speed?

Yes, because it's Palermo, not Palmero :)
Sources tell me that the impact of the asteroid will be partly absorbed by an f-22 in the middle of an in-flight reboot.

Might be modded as flamebait but I thought it was rather humorous.
Steve Gibson's soul was purchased into FUD slavery by Symantec Corp about a month ago.

MS announced support for the hammer a long time ago, as did various Linux vendors.

I wonder who is not next.
BTW, the sound card on my computer quite working a while ago, I have not purchased a CD for my car since.
Little do you know people stopped giving birth to humans somewhere in the early 90's.
Can you grow a computer in your basement?
5 steps, one would be to document and publish your file system specs. I do agree with your points on the Linux file system though.
