It's seinen manga, for older teens (generally college age people), and targeted towards men.
Now then, I do think the original poster is being a little bit of an ass, as though he feels he is owed something by Piro.
First off, his art is several times better (and larger) than many other webcomics out there. He's also trying to build up a larger story. If he could focus on it totally like the mangaka do in Japan (where they turn out a new chapter (15-25 pages) a WEEK, then maybe you'd have a lot more of a story. But since piro is limited to the time he has, and the resources available to him, there's not much that can be done.
Personally I think the line now is great, and since it's been Piro alone, it's moved a _lot_ faster. Where you got this "Does she love me/Will I be able to bone her eventually?" being the plotline from I haven't a damn clue.
Maybe you need to stop watching cheapass daytime soaps with 50 year old cyclical plots and start exploring other stuff out there.
They're deprecating cel based animation because cel inking, and outsourcing all the inbetweeners is very expensive, never mind the need to shoot each cel one by one with minor, almost totally by hand alterations to make it animated.
Digital just simplifies everything, and makes it cheaper.
Mid to Late 80s more stuff was coming over, albeit in the form of stuff shown on Nickelodeon given the shaft by DiC and Nelvana.
And actually, many series are done on a weekly basis. Sure, they can't match movie quality artistry on a week by week basis (too expensive), but they can come close. Most stuff these days is done entirely digitally after storyboards are constructed.
"Want to learn more about Linux, and how it can help your Company or Organization? Call 1-800-555-LNUX or visit www.linux-something.org to find your local Linux Users Group"
Linux isn't a company (hell it's almost completely a philosophy), so it could do this.
Have it funded by Redhat, or the FSF, or whatever.
Put the word in their head, and hopefully their local LUG will provide all the "Yeah it works great, try this it may help..."
And how the hell do you get them to work with most applications?
The same issue for chinese exists for Korean and Japanese, and is one of my major reasons for NOT moving to linux.
Windows et. al. have this issue down to nothing, I can use Japanese in every program installed on my PC (that has windows handle the UI), but basic input of Japanese into linux seems almost impossible.
One site wanted me to recompile the kernel just to add the suport. Another wanted me to rebuild all of my system libraries.
Multilingual support for Asian languages is severely lacking in Linux.
And I've tried Turbolinux, and on boot into X I got FVWM. That's REAL advanced.
Nothing deserves investement these days, it seems, unless it promises to bring in profits FAST./
People will look to the new "expeditionary adventure" with eyes wide open but the minute you question whether any money will be made off the venture for some time (or at all) people turn away.
If I run an encrypted filesystem (or not!) how the hell is a HARD DISK going to understand what It's storing?
If they claim to make it a windows only drive, then they're in for a shitstorm of bad publicity. People WILL complain, because it will have problems, and will hurt innocent users.
Aside from the first edition of Evangelion 0:1, very few of ADV's dvds use CSS.
Some do, per licensing requirements. The majority don't, and this does save them licensing fees (hey, why pay for an ineffective licensing scheme).
I know CPM has many all region dvds, Now and Then Here and There, for instance.
They may not be philanthropists (hell they provide some funding for a number of series in production in Japan now), but they aren't stupid. And they're descended from our ranks, so they know who they're selling to.
On the back of most (if not all) DVDs and CDs, there's a default price, a date of release and an end date.
Depending on popularity, it can last many years (some popular groups back in the late 80s had periods of 5+ years), but most are on average 2 years.
This applies to all sales, export or not.
Don't forget that shipping is killer, easily approaching 50% of total order cost.
As well, yes US released dvds are cheaper for them to import. This is why you often see restrictions on some US released anime dvds, per the contract. Sunrise Animation (creators of Cowboy Bebop, all of Gundam) require a 6 month lead period between their release and the US release. Other companies will hold back on certain release extras to entice the Japanese buyers to buy their product, even if it costs more.
In fact, the extras and quality are enough that many US buyers almost exclusively buy R2 dvds.
The majority of what is carried on ebay and half.com tends to be bootleg.
Bootleg = bad.
Especially the ones that promote series with English and Chinese subs, Region 0, and entire 26 episode series on 3 discs.
AVOID BUYING THESE, you hurt both the legal licensors and the Japanese company that produced the work (hey, we're all about fair compensation here on slashdot, aren't we?)
Many anime shops are very localized, the only big one I can name is AnimeNation, and they're at www.animenation.com
Most others are tiny and usually exclusive to a city. The majority of anime/manga is distributed retail, through Suncoast/MediaPlay/Best Buy (same Conglom-o), and small comics shops/book stores (by means of Diamond Comics.
Or imports. R2s cost a shitload though, and include no subtitles or english dub (for the illiterate;P)
As for theaters that actually SHOW anime, look to any LARGE city. Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, many large West and East coast cities will get Anime prints (primarily because prints cost a LOT and the US companies that do this are SMALL).
Rental:
netflix.com does dvd rental in general, including a lot of anime. Many blockbuster stores/other rental chains are starting to carry a lot of anime, or just ask your local anime geek. I myself have over 130 discs and do more loaning than any of the local stores (and I have been tempted to charge).
As an aside:
DOWNLOADING LICENSED ANIME ONLY HURTS THOSE WHO ARE ON YOUR SIDE.
Companies like A.D. Vision (biggest North American animation distributor second only to Disney) and Bandai Entertainmet are full of sane geeks like us who despise legislation like CARP, the DMCA, and the various Hollings crapscrolls, and avoid using any content control methods whenever possible. SUPPORT THEM.
If you see one, there's probably an Angel nearby they *ahem* forgot to tell you about.
Seek shelter, and look out for giant robots falling from the sky...
Not only is it sociable, but it's rude too!
Sounds about normal for a lot of people. In fact the blatant disregard for others should earn it points for being more human than necessary.

I own a radio scanner, can I use it to scan police frequencies?
In the US, yes!
You can't broadcast on them, but you can listen all you want.
Bandai Entertainment HAS officially confirmed they are handling all licensing/release outside Asia...

But it won't make a bad story better.
Chance coincidence.
/. crew seem to as well. That's all.
I know many people not terribly savvy with computers that love anime.
I also know a LOT of people who do a lot of work who like anime. I also know a lot who don't like anime at all.

If you're anywhere in North America, you can probably watch it on Cartoon Network.
:D
Or go try and rent it.
Otherwise, just buy blind. I did when I first got into it, and as you said, I am now a crazed fanboy of the series.
Gotta love it
Early 80s had very little anime.
Hell, Gundam was just picking up steam in Japan.
Mid to Late 80s more stuff was coming over, albeit in the form of stuff shown on Nickelodeon given the shaft by DiC and Nelvana.

No cels, no ink. All digital.
Shut up troll boy.
Dimension Films here in the US will be premiering the Cowboy Bebop movie in a matter of weeks.
Then the R1 DVD release will be out.
Support the creators, we say here on Slashdot.
DON'T download vcds.
DON'T buy bootlegs.
SUPPORT the creators and buy a legit copy.
Chances are Bandai Entertainment will be handling the North American release. Same people who handled Cowboy Bebop.
Whether it'll air on TV or not depends on who gets it, but I guarantee CN will not get it.
Maybe the Action Channel, or Showtime.
Or you could just buy the DVDs. And don't buy Hong Kong bootlegs.
Linux PSA?

Proxy bidding service that handles all the Japanese language and locale issues.
All operating systems that support Chinese/Japanese/Korean use an IME allowing a user to input in characters using a standard 101/104 key keboard.
All 3000+ kanji in japanese and 20000+ in chinese can be input using a keyboard.
For chinese though, this is difficult due to the number, which is why MS Office is winning people over with the voice input system.
And how the hell do you get them to work with most applications?

Price fixing is legal in Japan.

The majority of US companies avoid using any of those copy control methods, and in fact many people who work there disagree with them.
Support the companies! Don't buy bootlegs!
Five Star DVD has deals on all US licensed/released Hentai anime, at about $15 or so per disc.
Sub and dub (with known pr0n stars providing voices!)
Yes they are bootlegs. Almost EXCLUSIVELY.
You do not want to buy bootlegs, if you profess to want to compensate the creators fairly. (as the majority of Slashdot seems to want to).
We bitch about how the companies don't go after the big time bootleggers, but the easiest way to hinder them is to NOT BUY FROM THEM.
And Bestprices and DVDPlanet are cheaper than most retailers, and are 100% legit!
